My dad passed away at the end of July and he was Mum's primary carer. Without him, she become extremely confused, upset, disorientated and was becoming a danger to herself and others. On entering Burnfoot, she instantly calmed down. The staff took time to help her adjust and ensure she's kept active, which she needs and loves. Mum has been able to choose her own interiors for her bedroom and adores it. She is so happy and it means we can rest easy, knowing she is so well looked after. Amazing place.

Couldn't ask for a better home for my gran to live in. She was in another care home before moving to Burnfoot but wouldn't settle. She has settled in great since being here and all members of staff treat her like family. She is always clean, well-looked after and happy. There is always activities on to keep the residents busy. It is amazing to see how at home she is when we visit. Couldn't thank everyone enough for everything they have done for her over the years. 100% well-deserved 5 stars.

All staff at Burnfoot Care Home, are fantastic. They looked after my dad for nearly two years. In his last few months, he deteriorated. The staff looked after him and us and family members, who stayed with my dad, till his end of life. They helped celebrate my dad's birthdays and also my mum and dad's 60th wedding anniversary. Nothing was too much trouble. I can't praise the home and staff enough and highly recommend this home. The social media page enabled you to see what activities they got up to each week, which was great to see them all interacting!

Despite my father being in Burnfoot Care Home for only 3 months, it was the perfect place for him, due to the great atmosphere within the home. He got the 24/7 care he certainly needed, which meant he could relax in the calming environment. This meant the family could stop worrying about him, as they knew he was safe.

The family would like to thank all the carers for what they did for dad.

Having recently been informed that my brother passed away in the care of Burnfoot Care Home, I contacted them for some information. I found the manager to be very informative and compassionate. She gave me many insights into the stay of my brother in their care. The home appears to take pride in the care and comfort of its residents and of their families. I was very impressed by them.

I hate to see my brother in this situation after being such an active person who cared about the community and ran the Girvan football club for years. He also did several marathons to raise money for local charities as did another of your residents, just a shame they are not in the same wing as they were great buddies. I am pleased he is in your care home as the last one was not good. The staff were great but it was not a homely place, unlike Burnfoot. No place will be perfect but I think you do a good job and I take my hat off to all the staff whatever level of responsibility they have as I could not do their job.
My only criticism which is very minor is the staff don’t always have their name tags on. But hats off to them all I think they are fab!!

And the first thing I get offered is a cuppa which is great after the drive from Girvan. Thank god for people like you and I think your pay should be on a par with NHS nurses. You are all fantastic!

On my mum's Ruby anniversary I asked staff to post pictures of my mum and family gifts of the day and still at 7 pm no pictures or information of this special day. After calling the home they informed us of an accident seven hours previously (bear in mind I called at 11.30 am and nothing was mentioned of any accident! Still waiting on pictures of this very special day as staff said they would make today a very special occasion. Feel very let down as my dad has updated the staff of his new number and still the staff call his old number after I called the home.

Her daughter, I was told she has dementia and she's deteriorating so it's not like she will remember today. Am sorry but no one should ever say that to me or a family member. We have to live with her condition every day and it was the worst day of our life the day my mum got taken out of our care!

I saw my husband in the visiting room. He was in excellent spirits, happy and has definitely thrived since he has been at Burnfoot Care Home. To me the care is exemplary. I was so pleased to see how well looked after he is - smart, clean-shaven and healthy. The attending staff were kind and helpful to my cousin (who was with me) and myself. I felt uplifted and positive after seeing him so settled in Burnfoot.

Review from Helen G (Wife of Resident) published on 14 April 2021 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
After 52 years of marriage, my husband became a resident at Burnfoot Care Home. Due to Covid restrictions, I was unable to visit Burnfoot before my husband became a resident, but my GP assured me that this was an excellent option for his complex care.
From the very first day, he received the very best attention from all staff, and he ate well, was entertained every day and his personal/medical care was excellent.

I was assured that I could contact Burnfoot at any time of the day or night, and every member of staff knew my husband and could keep me up to date on how he was that particular day. My husband was always interested in sport, and I took his badminton racquets to Burnfoot, and staff and another resident played with him most days and he loved this. In fact, before I could take racquets to Burnfoot, the activities coordinator had purchased a set to see if it was viable to play within the confines of the large day room. Whatever he fancied doing, the staff always tried to accommodate his wishes.

Reply from Donna Van Heddegem, Manager at Burnfoot Care Home

Thank you for the kind response, Helen; it was a pleasure to be part of his care. We always try to accommodate residents hobbies and wishes in the hope that we can make the transition as familiar as possible. The staff at Burnfoot were all very fond of him, and he is sadly missed.

My dad recently became a permanent resident in the home after a 4-week period of respite. On admission to the home, all the staff were very welcoming and were reassuring (as we were not able to actually go in with my dad due to COVID restrictions). Every time I have called to check how my dad has settled I have felt reassured. That has taken a huge amount of stress and pressure off our family. Having now visited Dad 3 times in the home he appears happy and content.
