Review from Julie B (Friend of Resident) published on 6 May 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

On entering the home I have always been greeted with happy people, residents and staff alike. My friend is very happy and well cared for. There is always plenty of activities for her to do or take part in. Around mid morning little treats and drinks are given, yummy sausage rolls, cheesy crumpets and delicious mini cakes. I was also very impressed with her bedroom, the side and layout, its actually better than my own.

Wonderful friendly staff. I haven't met any member of staff that doesn't have a warm welcoming smile on their face. The nature in which they look after the residents is second to none. There is always someone close enough to give a helping hand if needed.
The activities that are organized are for not only the residents but also visitors who wish to join in and they are outstanding. They organize singing and dancing, exercises and various table activities. Painting, drawing and crayoning, also bingo, dominoes and various other games all to keep the residents happy, occupied and amused.
The food also looks delicious with much variety.
The care home is very clean and tidy and well looked after.

The laundry facilities are excellent and clean pressed clothes returned to the residence on a daily basis.

My husband began day care in January 2025 and went into care full time on 01/08/2025. Myself and all the family are more than happy with the care he receives, the activities they do and the feeling of a happy home. The staff go beyond expectations - wonderful.

Excellent, friendly care home. Welcoming staff. Good range of activities. My father seems happy here, his room is bright and spacious. Sometimes the table cloths and floor where dining tables are can be dirty with food on the floor.

My mum Beryl has late stage dementia mum moved into Gedling Village Care Home on 10/07/202, I can't express how much the home also the carers have touched my heart in such a short time, carers and cleaners go far above their jobs, I'm absolutely over the moon how well they have settled my mum. Also welcomed her. I thank everyone who works within the home to make it very well ran.

I can not express enough how wonderful Gedling Village Care Home is. The care is second to none. Staff are friendly & welcoming & are so passionate about the residents & their wellbeing. Even on my Dads darkest of days they know exactly what to do. I have witnessed nothing but great things. Nothing is too much trouble & staff take the time to get to know the residents on a personal level. Which make the care they provide even more special. Thank you.

It is really comforting for our family to know that Mum is in a really safe and friendly environment at this stage of her life, where she is no longer able to live independently. She particularly enjoys all the activities put on daily by the staff, especially anything to do with a particular creche, the therapy pets and all the celebrations where friends and family join in... the list goes on!

After receiving care in the community for my dad with respite in-between it just wasn't working for either him or my mum! So without hesitation, we decided the best and safest way forward was respite with a view to permanent at Gedling Village! My mum and dad both get quality time with each other every day! I know my dad is getting a healthy balanced diet and round-the-clock care and support which at 78 he deserves! The day my dad arrived at Gedling Village the team noticed straight away he had an infection in his legs (which community care had failed to notice) they were on it straight away, had the GP out and prescribed antibiotics that day! This is definitely a home-from-home! And I get regular updates on how he is etc. The whole team are absolutely amazing, kind and welcoming and goes above and beyond for residents and their families! So much so, I am volunteering at their monthly memory café where the activities co-ordinater goes above and beyond to make this happen! Outstanding team.

My mum came to Gedling Village Care Home in June 2023, in the next 7 months she was to fall over 12 times... I will leave it to your own judgment as to why she was allowed to fall over so many times in this so-called care home. When she had her last fall she was admitted to hospital. Whilst she was in hospital we learned that the care home would not have my mum back, they never even had the guts to tell us to our face! They charge the obscene amount of £1000 per week but when somebody actually needs some effort put into their care this place is not interested, but I suppose I should be grateful that my mum came out of this place alive! On top of all this they connive with nasty vile social workers behind your back. To anyone thinking of using this place, please think again, it may look nice on the surface but behind the scenes it most certainly is not. Choose a smaller care home where your loved one will get the care they deserve.

Thank you for your feedback. Mum presented with a high risk of falls. When we assess all our residents prior to admission we gather this information and risk assess those independently. This led us to put a sensor mat and robust care planning in place for mum. We have a policy in place allowing us...

My first impressions of the home were good, friendly, and clean and the staff were always around to help. The general dining room is very nice and spacious and tables are very well laid out and decorative. Pleasantly surprised by the size of the single rooms (excellent!). Breakfast was lovely with a varied selection. Externally, the garden is nice with display features and it has a lovely large veranda when the climate is friendly.

My grandma is often left in bed in her nighty all day, often after 1pm she is still in her nighty and hasn’t even had a wash, this is basic human rights care. Today 4/11/23 she was unwashed in bed at 2:30pm. We had to dress and get her to have a wash ourselves.
We have had to throw away a considerable amount of her clothes due to them being shrunk in the wash. Her sheepskin rug was also washed and shrunk and ruined, which really upset my grandma, as she loved the rug.

Some carers are brilliant, however, the top floor is often forgotten about and left unattended for considerable amounts of time, my gran's buzzer has been ringing for over 30 minutes without a peep from anyone on several occasions.

My mother has been here for over a year and on numerous occasions a lack of information and communication has been a major concern of mine. This is especially common between management and family and is becoming very frustrating. This is definitely an area for improvement as it is lacking here. I can't always do a face-to-face as I prefer to spend time with Mum, so I email my concerns usually regarding a recent incident. These are not replied to for days, weeks and sometimes not at all.

Michelle GarlandJob Title:Registered ManagerJoined: 2015

My name is Michelle Garland, and I have worked in care for 23 years. I have worked with Pearlcare at Gedling Village Care Home since October 2015. I started as an administrator, and I completed my NVQ level 2 in business management. I was promoted to deputy manager in September 2021 and became the manager in May 2022.

Throughout my years of experience in care, I have worked within nursing, residential, dementia and worked on EMI units. I have gained a lot of knowledge and experience with all the different areas I have worked in. Since working with Pearlcare, they have helped and supported me to gain further progression in my career as a manager. I am currently working towards my NVQ level 5 in residential management.

My main focus at Gedling Village Care Home is to ensure the safety of my residents and, most importantly, make sure they are happy and feel at home. As a manager, I am passionate about my residents being supported and for them to be able to make their own choices and decisions, whichever it may be. Gedling Village thrives with their open-door policy and having an honest home. Gedling Village takes pride in their décor, activities and decision-making of the home to include all relatives, residents, staff, and family members.

Gedling Village has achieved so many goals in the last 12 months. Gedling Village has altered the decoration within the care home and completed a massive garden renovation this year. We have decorated many bedrooms and changed the floorings, not only in bedrooms but also in corridors. A lot of this was achieved from our COVID-19 infection control grant. We also managed to get x3 electric sluice machines and a medication room on each floor. Gedling Village have received 2 contract and monitoring inspection reports, which have been very good, and we have also had a very good infection control inspection.

Gedling Village have put on plenty of events, which include Halloween, Bonfire, Christmas, and our coronation party, where we had the local mayor and mayoress of our local area. Our residents also enjoy the regular entertainers, pantomimes, Zumba and our wonderful animal therapy.

We receive many comments from friends, family and relatives stating how enjoyable and how much entertainment we provide for our residents.
