Mum moved to Gedling Village in February 2019. I looked at other care homes and then went to look round Gedling Village - I instantly liked it. The home is lovely and bright and airy, modern and very well kept. The residents bedrooms are very roomy with en suite bathrooms and the residents are encouraged to have their personal pictures and ornaments etc. I have been visiting my mum when the meals arrive which always look nice and mum has never complained about the food. The staff are brilliant, they are very caring and constantly making sure that residents have plenty of drinks, together with a few snacks between meals. I think that all the staff have worked brilliantly through the Coronavirus to keep the home virus free and to carry on working through this very difficult time. The entertainment and outings that the home provides are very good. Mum has enjoyed several outings to the pantomime, beauty spots etc and the home regularly have music and singing artists.

Mum has now been resident at Gedling Village Care Home for 20 months and continues to be happy and well cared for. Her room is clean and comfortable. There seems a good and quite varied range of food provided; visitors are welcomed; and in 'normal times' a wide range of activities take place in which she can and often does participate, some of which are pictured on the Home's social media page. As I write this, it remains closed to external visitors because of the national Coronavirus crisis, but great care has been taken by Management and Staff to protect Residents and ('touch wood'!) this has been very effective so far. Mum has a good relationship with Staff and there is lively banter and encouragement to participate in activities, all of which help to keep her active and alert. Please do not be discouraged by the early 2019 CQC Report, which caught the Home at a brief difficult moment that is now long behind them. My family and I have nothing but praise for Gedling Village Care Home, and would gladly recommend it to others.

Mum had lived at Gedling Village from February 2016 until she passed away in December 2019. She was cared for with love, respect and dignity at all times. She was very happy, always chatting and singing.
The home public areas were clean and well maintained. The residents' rooms were spotless and cleaned every day.
The laundry was always clean and fresh.
The food was plentiful and looked very tempting and smelled delicious.
The carers always chatted to Mum. They always had time for family with any concerns or questions.
All the staff greeted you with a smile and a pleasant greeting.
The current management is excellent.

Thank you all so very much for your care and compassion.

We visited a number of care home before choosing Gedling Village Care Home. We chose this home due to the initial 'feel'/atmosphere when you entered the building, it was a clean, bright, modern building with excellent security gate. The staff were welcoming, polite and professional. They spoke to residents and each other with friendliness, respect and dignity and appeared to enjoy their job. The residents were dressed appropriately and clean. There were activities whilst I visited but cannot comment on whether this could be improved with increased sessions as my contact was weekly rather than daily. The food was cooked on-site and plentiful - drinks were available at all times. My Mums room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean, laundry excellent. Areas for improvement - more staff in lounge at staff meeting times. More access to chiropody appointments.

I cannot speak highly enough of Gedling Village, it is a remarkable place. Whilst my mother spent only a short period of time in their care the love and compassion shown to both her and my father was incredible. Sadly mum passed away in the home, but they were caring, professional and loving to the end. Would I recommend Gedling Village? Most certainly - I couldn't have asked for more.

The attention to detail and the care that my wife received was second to none. I cannot thank the staff enough for looking after my wife. Every morning she was like a new pin in her attire. I was amazed at the concern for my well being. You have got an ace team there.

Sadly my mum passed away earlier this week after 3 1/2 years residing at Gedling Village. In all that time we were very grateful for the friendly and courteous care that she received which appeared to us to be of the very highest standard. The home was kept spotlessly clean and the food always looked appetising. My mum never had a complaint.

My dad and step mum came to stay at Gedling in October 2018. My step mum has dementia but dad didn't but he had mobility issues. They were made very welcome by the excellent staff and managers. They were both happy and settled quickly. My dad really loved the carers, enjoying a joke and banter with staff and they all liked him too. He did complain about the food but he was very fussy. My step mum liked the food and it looked fine to me. Every care was given to my dad especially in the last few weeks of his life. I couldn't have asked for more. Only negative is they need more staff.

Our first impressions of this care home were that the residents seemed happy and ‘engaged’ and well cared for. The facilities were bright and clean and suitable for elderly residents. My cousin was only there for two weeks but we were very pleased with the way she had settled in and extremely pleased with the caring and professional attitude of everyone working at the home. We were particularly impressed with the care taken to get to know my cousin’s needs, even before she went into the home.

Very kind and friendly staff, made my Mum feel very welcome. I was comforted knowing that my Mum was being well cared for. They were flexible over meal times when we were visiting my Dad in hospital. The meals and menu were always varied with a couple of choices. Mum joined in with some of the activities and was never short of company.

After much deliberation and having visited many care homes in the area we eventually found Gedling Village Care Home. When I brought my Mother for a visit the interest shown in her and her needs confirmed our choice. We haven't been disappointed, they have adapted her care fluidly as her needs changed. The most important aspect of their care, to me, is that they truly protect her dignity, even at difficult times. Because of this, my Mother has settled into a new home in a new town happily at the age of 94. No mean feat.

My mother lived at Gedling Village Care Home for four years, moving from an assisted living apartment - where she could keep her cat - to a room in the home as her dementia progressed and mobility reduced.
The staff were always caring, enabling Mam to enjoy the routine and pastimes she preferred.
When Mam had a massive stroke and was taken to hospital, it was a great relief that she was able to return to the home for her final day, surrounded by the loving and supportive staff.

It really feels like part of the family.

My mum was at Gedling Village Care Home between December 2017 and 11 February 2018 when she passed away. All the staff are wonderfully caring and compassionate, they always treated my mum with the utmost dignity. The food is great and the place is always clean. The staff catered for all my mum's needs in her declining state. The staff became great friends to our whole family and mum in her time of need. I always felt she was very comfortable and well cared for. In the end the home became a real home in every sense of the word to mum, I couldn't have hoped for better.

My friend was resident in Gedling Villages from January 2015 until she passed away a few days ago. I visited her on many occasions and always found her to be so very well cared for, clean comfortable and happy.

Sometimes we arrived at meal times and joined her to eat. The food is very good, and the home is clean and comfortable, there is an atmosphere of calm. The rooms are pleasant, and personal items can be brought in. There are photographs of her enjoying the in-house entertainment. The staff are very caring and kind, with absolute respect for dignity. They have looked after her with care and compassion, you can’t ask for more than that.

This care home is exceptionally good. They care for my aunt. The staff are always polite and make us feel welcome on every visit. They go out of their way to ensure that we and Auntie are happy.
She is well fed and hydrated.
Staff organise outings and have lots of activities at the home which Auntie is always encouraged to participate in, helping to keep her mind occupied as well as looking after her medical needs.

The home is always clean and all other residents always look happy too.

Michelle GarlandJob Title:Registered ManagerJoined: 2015

My name is Michelle Garland, and I have worked in care for 23 years. I have worked with Pearlcare at Gedling Village Care Home since October 2015. I started as an administrator, and I completed my NVQ level 2 in business management. I was promoted to deputy manager in September 2021 and became the manager in May 2022.

Throughout my years of experience in care, I have worked within nursing, residential, dementia and worked on EMI units. I have gained a lot of knowledge and experience with all the different areas I have worked in. Since working with Pearlcare, they have helped and supported me to gain further progression in my career as a manager. I am currently working towards my NVQ level 5 in residential management.

My main focus at Gedling Village Care Home is to ensure the safety of my residents and, most importantly, make sure they are happy and feel at home. As a manager, I am passionate about my residents being supported and for them to be able to make their own choices and decisions, whichever it may be. Gedling Village thrives with their open-door policy and having an honest home. Gedling Village takes pride in their décor, activities and decision-making of the home to include all relatives, residents, staff, and family members.

Gedling Village has achieved so many goals in the last 12 months. Gedling Village has altered the decoration within the care home and completed a massive garden renovation this year. We have decorated many bedrooms and changed the floorings, not only in bedrooms but also in corridors. A lot of this was achieved from our COVID-19 infection control grant. We also managed to get x3 electric sluice machines and a medication room on each floor. Gedling Village have received 2 contract and monitoring inspection reports, which have been very good, and we have also had a very good infection control inspection.

Gedling Village have put on plenty of events, which include Halloween, Bonfire, Christmas, and our coronation party, where we had the local mayor and mayoress of our local area. Our residents also enjoy the regular entertainers, pantomimes, Zumba and our wonderful animal therapy.

We receive many comments from friends, family and relatives stating how enjoyable and how much entertainment we provide for our residents.
