Overall Experience
My mother came to Acorn House after a prolonged hospital/recuperation period. She was withdrawn, isolated and not a happy person.
Since moving into Acorn House she has blossomed, putting on weight - the food is excellent and has made new friends, plenty of time and space for this.
She particularly enjoys the outings and joins in with everything. The home is lovely and has quickly become that to us as a family.

It's her home and she loves it.

Our friend seems to be very well looked after at Acorn House by staff who are attentive, caring and sympathetic to her needs. She is sometimes quite confused but is successfully reassured by the carers there. She has a hearty appetite and enjoys all the food served to her.

Care homes are difficult places to keep clean and odour free when so many patients have problems. The Acorn House manager does a good job of it, though. Importantly for me, the staff are nice, friendly people and that counts for a lot. They seem to do more activities and trips out than many homes I have been to. I would recommend this home.

Overall Experience

Mum stayed at Acorn House Care Home initially for respite care, and then as a permanent resident from January 2016 until she passed away in October 2016. During that time she was given excellent care by the staff of Acorn House.

When she moved in permanently, she was able to personalise her room with her own furniture and pictures to make it feel like home. Lots of activities were on offer but she preferred to stay in her room and had her meals there. She enjoyed the food, and also her weekly visit to the in-house hairdresser. She also enjoyed the services held in Acorn House Care Home each week by a group of local churches.

A comprehensive care plan was put into place by Acorn House in consultation with Mum's GP, and this was followed through very carefully.

When Mum died peacefully in her sleep shortly before her 94th birthday, the staff treated Mum with the utmost respect and dignity, and also treated my wife and me with compassion as we arranged the funeral and cleared her room.

Staff on 2nd floor were excellent during my visit, not only with my mother but also to others staying there. The new guy was very pleasant and everyone seemed to get on making it a super place for my mum, who is 90 to stay. Thanks everyone

The staff are very pleasant and helpful and look after my mother well but the staff change around so you don't always get a good continuity of care. Because the staff don't always know the residents and the residents don't know the staff member, therefore they don't always know the residents needs, when you get dementia or parkinsons residents.

I am very pleased with the care and support given to my father and also with the regular activities at Acorn House which help to keep him stimulated. The entertainment's manager keeps us up to date with the activities he participates in and these include arts and crafts, bingo, and musical events. This is an excellent service which we hope will continue.

The activities coordinator has helped with visual stimulation and with activities to stimulate the residents, organising trips and other simple activities.

Secure, warm surroundings, however due to the mix of residents the activities are limited and infrequent.

Welcome to Acorn House!

I have been working in the sector for the past 20 years following the death of my father in 2001. While he was receiving palliative care at home I have been looking after him. My passion was always in care and making a difference no matter how big or small it was. After spending 12 years in 24-hour nursing care, I decided to move to residential care.

I came to work for Acacia Care 7 years ago and I have held many positions within the company from Night Manager, Care Manager, Home Manager and Regional Support Manager to my now current role as General Manager. I feel very honoured and privileged to have been given this opportunity to manage Acorn House and I hope my work and the work of the team will make a difference in the lives of our residents and their families.
