Acorn House is a purpose-built residential care home based in the community of Carrington, Nottingham, that also specialises in dementia care. The spacious interiors and homely decorations complement the work of professional carers, and create a calming and homely atmosphere.

En-suite rooms and landscaped gardens delight residents and their families, who also have their own on-site cafe to enjoy. Health and wellbeing needs are very important and the Activities Coordinators work with residents and families to develop an exciting programme of activities and events that are tailored to personal interests.

Residents and staff go out into the community and the community are invited into the home, in order to build positive relationships and enable social inclusion for residents. They are also many intergenerational activities so that residents are able to engage with all age groups, from toddlers to college students.

All care is carried out in a bespoke fashion, with passion, empathy and enthusiasm at the centre of all decisions taken. Carers understand the importance of person-centred care, and the residents needs and preferences are placed at the centre of their care.

Choices at mealtimes are provided to all residents and they take great pride in the dining experience at Acorn House. Personal preferences and nutritional needs are taken into account and the kitchen team work hard to provide a wide range of healthy and tasty choices for residents.

A well organised welcoming environment. My mum is treated well, always looks clean, tidy and happy. The whole place has an air of people caring, it is relaxed but meets standards that you would expect for your family. There is a community feel, and residents are encouraged to engage in many activities
as a resident if you don't join in then the staff will try and try again, I like this. It has a safe feeling and I would recommend.

I have been visiting the care home for the past 3 months. I, myself work in a care home but I must say I am very impressed with the cleanliness and the caring care staff. I can see that it is not for show, just because we are here. I come in at daytime and also at night and I am made very welcome at
all times.

I have been particularly impressed by the care and concern shown by all staff for the residents at Acorn House Care Home. The awareness and attention shown in seating the residents in the dining room was very apparent. Personal likes and dislikes of food were accepted kindly. I have benefitted tremendously

Went on holiday for one week.
Left my mother here in Acorn House.
She was well received and looked after the whole time she was there.
She also bonded and made friends with the staff and other people.
Overall she was well looked after.

We have found the care and attention our aunt has received during the 3 months she has been at Acorn House, nothing short of exceptional.
On our first visit to see the home we were impressed by the warm, friendly staff and general caring attitude to all the residents.
Delighted to see the improvement
in our aunt in the short space of time she has been here. Staff are always willing to sit down and talk to family members if we have any questions.
Our aunt says she cannot fault them.

My aunt spent the last 20months of her life being well looked after and cared for with love and understanding of her frail decline.
She was always treated with respect by all the staff. She chose to spend her last days of her life amongst the staff who she trusted and had loved and cared for her for
so long.
The atmosphere at Acorn House was always so welcoming for all of her visitors, which was always appreciated.

The care staff are on the whole very good they have the utmost patience and always treat my mum with great kindness and dignity. I am very impressed with the health care mum receives and the records kept regarding her ongoing health care. I do fin dit very annoying when mums clothing goes missing and
have mentioned this several times. The laundry is very expensive but does offer a calm caring environment where I feel mum is safe.

My mother came to Acorn House after a prolonged hospital/recuperation period. She was withdrawn, isolated and not a happy person.
Since moving into Acorn House she has blossomed, putting on weight - the food is excellent and has made new friends, plenty of time and space for this.
She particularly
enjoys the outings and joins in with everything. The home is lovely and has quickly become that to us as a family.
It's her home and she loves it.

Our friend seems to be very well looked after at Acorn House by staff who are attentive, caring and sympathetic to her needs. She is sometimes quite confused but is successfully reassured by the carers there. She has a hearty appetite and enjoys all the food served to her.

Care homes are difficult places to keep clean and odour free when so many patients have problems. The Acorn House manager does a good job of it, though. Importantly for me, the staff are nice, friendly people and that counts for a lot. They seem to do more activities and trips out than many homes I
have been to. I would recommend this home.

Mum stayed at Acorn House Care Home initially for respite care, and then as a permanent resident from January 2016 until she passed away in October 2016. During that time she was given excellent care by the staff of Acorn House.


When she moved in permanently, she was able to personalise her room

with her own furniture and pictures to make it feel like home. Lots of activities were on offer but she preferred to stay in her room and had her meals there. She enjoyed the food, and also her weekly visit to the in-house hairdresser. She also enjoyed the services held in Acorn House Care Home each week by a group of local churches.


A comprehensive care plan was put into place by Acorn House in consultation with Mum's GP, and this was followed through very carefully.


When Mum died peacefully in her sleep shortly before her 94th birthday, the staff treated Mum with the utmost respect and dignity, and also treated my wife and me with compassion as we arranged the funeral and cleared her room.

Staff on 2nd floor were excellent during my visit, not only with my mother but also to others staying there. The new guy was very pleasant and everyone seemed to get on making it a super place for my mum, who is 90 to stay. Thanks everyone

Welcome to Acorn House!


I have been working in the sector for the past 20 years following the death of my father in 2001. While he was receiving palliative care at home I have been looking after him. My passion was always in care and making a difference no matter how big or small it was. After spending 12 years in 24-hour nursing care, I decided to move to residential care.


I came to work for Acacia Care 7 years ago and I have held many positions within the company from Night Manager, Care Manager, Home Manager and Regional Support Manager to my now current role as General Manager. I feel very honoured and privileged to have been given this opportunity to manage Acorn House and I hope my work and the work of the team will make a difference in the lives of our residents and their families.
