My mother suffered a small stroke this month. The staff noticed the problem straight away and called an ambulance. They telephoned me promptly and kept me informed. Following her admission to hospital, the Acorn House staff liaised directly with the hospital staff and were able to arrange for my mother to be transferred back to Acorn House at the earliest opportunity after two and a half days.

We were all extremely grateful that my mother was able to get back to friendly, familiar surroundings asap.

Mum has been at Acorn House for two years. She was transferred to the home at short notice having been given 48hrs to move from a previous home. In what could have been a traumatic experience for a 93 year old Alzheimers sufferer she immediately settled in. Due mainly to the staff who gave her much reassurance and support. Since that time I've found the staff/management to be caring. I've witnessed awkward moments among residents I.e arguments and aggression. The staff have been quick to intervene and diffuse situations in a calm and understanding manner.
There does not seem to be a great turnover of staff. The staff remain on the same floor as the residents. This gives staff and residents time to get to know each other. The staff can assess each resident's needs and personality/temperament. Yes, the tv is on most of the day for those that want it, however, an effort is made to give residents a varied range of activities. Bingo, art, singing and having nails painted being mums favourites.

I know that when I've left my mum at Acorn House Care Home that she is safe and in good hands. She is happy when she's got a cup of tea and some company. There's plenty of both at Acorn House.

Beautifully furnished, decorated and maintained. Plenty of space and lounges so that you can find your own space and privacy. All en-suite single rooms which are spacious. Staff are warm and welcoming and attentive to service user needs. We would definitely recommend and use again. Thank you for looking after my father so well.

Staff and management team are attentive to residents' needs, inc. those of my mother. Activities team members accede to my mother's wishes not to participate, so give her preference in visits to cafes and restaurants. Overall, I am perfectly happy for my mother to reside at Acorn House.

A well organised welcoming environment. My mum is treated well, always looks clean, tidy and happy. The whole place has an air of people caring, it is relaxed but meets standards that you would expect for your family. There is a community feel, and residents are encouraged to engage in many activities as a resident if you don't join in then the staff will try and try again, I like this. It has a safe feeling and I would recommend.

I have been visiting the care home for the past 3 months. I, myself work in a care home but I must say I am very impressed with the cleanliness and the caring care staff. I can see that it is not for show, just because we are here. I come in at daytime and also at night and I am made very welcome at all times.

I have been particularly impressed by the care and concern shown by all staff for the residents at Acorn House Care Home. The awareness and attention shown in seating the residents in the dining room was very apparent. Personal likes and dislikes of food were accepted kindly. I have benefitted tremendously from my stay here.

Went on holiday for one week.
Left my mother here in Acorn House.
She was well received and looked after the whole time she was there.
She also bonded and made friends with the staff and other people.

Overall she was well looked after.

We have found the care and attention our aunt has received during the 3 months she has been at Acorn House, nothing short of exceptional.
On our first visit to see the home we were impressed by the warm, friendly staff and general caring attitude to all the residents.
Delighted to see the improvement in our aunt in the short space of time she has been here. Staff are always willing to sit down and talk to family members if we have any questions.

Our aunt says she cannot fault them.

My aunt spent the last 20months of her life being well looked after and cared for with love and understanding of her frail decline.
She was always treated with respect by all the staff. She chose to spend her last days of her life amongst the staff who she trusted and had loved and cared for her for so long.

The atmosphere at Acorn House was always so welcoming for all of her visitors, which was always appreciated.

The care staff are on the whole very good they have the utmost patience and always treat my mum with great kindness and dignity. I am very impressed with the health care mum receives and the records kept regarding her ongoing health care. I do fin dit very annoying when mums clothing goes missing and have mentioned this several times. The laundry is very expensive but does offer a calm caring environment where I feel mum is safe.

Welcome to Acorn House!

I have been working in the sector for the past 20 years following the death of my father in 2001. While he was receiving palliative care at home I have been looking after him. My passion was always in care and making a difference no matter how big or small it was. After spending 12 years in 24-hour nursing care, I decided to move to residential care.

I came to work for Acacia Care 7 years ago and I have held many positions within the company from Night Manager, Care Manager, Home Manager and Regional Support Manager to my now current role as General Manager. I feel very honoured and privileged to have been given this opportunity to manage Acorn House and I hope my work and the work of the team will make a difference in the lives of our residents and their families.
