Acorn House is a purpose-built residential care home based in the community of Carrington, Nottingham, that also specialises in dementia care. The spacious interiors and homely decorations complement the work of professional carers, and create a calming and homely atmosphere.

En-suite rooms and landscaped gardens delight residents and their families, who also have their own on-site cafe to enjoy. Health and wellbeing needs are very important and the Activities Coordinators work with residents and families to develop an exciting programme of activities and events that are tailored to personal interests.

Residents and staff go out into the community and the community are invited into the home, in order to build positive relationships and enable social inclusion for residents. They are also many intergenerational activities so that residents are able to engage with all age groups, from toddlers to college students.

All care is carried out in a bespoke fashion, with passion, empathy and enthusiasm at the centre of all decisions taken. Carers understand the importance of person-centred care, and the residents needs and preferences are placed at the centre of their care.

Choices at mealtimes are provided to all residents and they take great pride in the dining experience at Acorn House. Personal preferences and nutritional needs are taken into account and the kitchen team work hard to provide a wide range of healthy and tasty choices for residents.

I just want to say a huge thank you to the whole of Acorn House, from the carers, kitchen staff, domestic staff, activity team to the managers. My mama spent her last few years here until she sadly passed away on the 02.02.2020. She was very happy here, everyone knew her and she was such a big part
of the home. Everyone would always want to come and see her, even from the other floors, as this is the impact she had on people. You all became family to her and you cared for her beautifully, right until the very end. Thank you so much from all the family.

I would like to come here when my time comes as it is a home from home. It's clean, the standard of hygiene is very high and the staff care about the residents and entertain them regularly.

The staff have been very supportive for me at an extremely distressing time having to put both of my parent's into care. They have helped my mum and dad to adjust to moving in as they are both on different floors needing different types of care. They try to do things that they can both join in with.

My great nan was admitted to Acorn House for respite care recently. She was very anxious about leaving her home and going to stay in care for a while. The staff made her feel very welcome and at ease, she interacted with other peers in the home and was very happy with the way she was treated during
her stay. Thank you to all the staff who looked after her during her stay.

My nan moved to this home in the early part of 2019. She had been in another home previously but we were not happy with the care that had been provided and decided to move her. As a family were extremely anxious, however, we did not need to be, the staff team from managers to carers, to domestic and
activities was like one big family. The communication was first class any issues or concerns the home would call and keep us up to date.
Sadly my nan recently passed away, the compassion and empathy that was shown to us was outstanding, the end of life care was outstanding and the support we received was second to none. The manager even attended my nans funeral and again supported us on this extremely sad day.
All I can say is that anyone that is looking for a care home for their loved one needs to view this home. Our only regret is she didn't come here first.
I highly recommend this home and I thank the staff for the love and support shown to us all.

I would highly recommend this care home. The staff and management are caring, helpful and they all listen to any problems I have with my mum. I have no concerns whatsoever, I wouldn't want my mum anywhere else but here. Excellent.

My Aunt stayed here on respite care while my mum went and had a break. My aunt has dementia and can no longer recognise family which is very upsetting. The staff made us all feel welcome when we brought my aunt for her stay and nothing was too much trouble. The staff deserve a medal looking after people
like my aunt, they are all fantastic we will definitely be bringing her back again in the near future.

My stepfather was admitted to Acorn at the start of February for End of Life care after the family was informed that he didn't have long left with us. We were asked to find him a care home who could look after him in his final days/weeks and Acorn House was that place, the staff team was absolutely
amazing they treated my stepfather with the care, dignity and respect he deserved in his final days. The family was also supported and was made to feel part of their family. My stepfather sadly passed away a few days ago but in his final days, he was comfortable and pain-free.
The family would like to thank all the staff for their support and kindness shown to us in our darkest hours, we would highly recommend this home to others.

My sister was admitted for respite care due to her increasing care needs after she had a spell in the hospital. The staff are very kind and caring and nothing is too much trouble. While my sister was at Acorn House she gained her confidence back and some of her independence also and this was all down
to the staff who worked with her and gave her the care and support she required.
A big thank you to all the staff you do an amazing job.

My Mum has been staying here on and off for respite for the last year and on this occasion, it was an emergency placement. The staff were fabulous. They went above and beyond again. Especially as this time, my mum's anxiety was very extreme, but yet again the staff took it in their stride. Nothing is
ever too much for them.

My nan was admitted to Acorn for long term care. It was the hardest decision as a family that we had to make but the staff at Acorn were very welcoming and answered all our questions to put our minds at rest. Nan is very well looked after and enjoys the company of other residents in the service, everyone
has been so kind to nan and she is coming on leaps and bounds. Thank you to all the staff, you do an amazing job.

My sister has been a resident since August 2016 and has benefited greatly from the excellent support she has received from the care staff and management of Acorn House.
Her room is very well furnished and she enjoys the meals.
She receives regular visits from a doctor and district nurses and I have
always been kept up to date with all aspects of her care.
I can heartily recommend Acorn House.

We were very reluctant to place my mother in care as anyone would be. But six months down the line, my mother has made some great friends and regained her once lost confidence.
The carers and management are wonderful as is the home itself.
10/10 Keep up the good work.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.872)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.872) out of 10 for Acorn House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 34 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 34 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.872 for Acorn House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (356 Excellents x 5) + (50 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 407 Ratings = 4.872
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Acorn House Care Home is based on 34 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8, which has been reached with 34 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Welcome to Acorn House!

I have been working in the sector for the past 20 years following the death of my father in 2001. While he was receiving palliative care at home I have been looking after him. My passion was always in care and making a difference no matter how big or small it was. After spending 12 years in 24-hour nursing care, I decided to move to residential care.

I came to work for Acacia Care 7 years ago and I have held many positions within the company from Night Manager, Care Manager, Home Manager and Regional Support Manager to my now current role as General Manager. I feel very honoured and privileged to have been given this opportunity to manage Acorn House and I hope my work and the work of the team will make a difference in the lives of our residents and their families.
