Acorn House is a purpose-built residential care home based in the community of Carrington, Nottingham, that also specialises in dementia care. The spacious interiors and homely decorations complement the work of professional carers, and create a calming and homely atmosphere.

En-suite rooms and landscaped gardens delight residents and their families, who also have their own on-site cafe to enjoy. Health and wellbeing needs are very important and the Activities Coordinators work with residents and families to develop an exciting programme of activities and events that are tailored to personal interests.

Residents and staff go out into the community and the community are invited into the home, in order to build positive relationships and enable social inclusion for residents. They are also many intergenerational activities so that residents are able to engage with all age groups, from toddlers to college students.

All care is carried out in a bespoke fashion, with passion, empathy and enthusiasm at the centre of all decisions taken. Carers understand the importance of person-centred care, and the residents needs and preferences are placed at the centre of their care.

Choices at mealtimes are provided to all residents and they take great pride in the dining experience at Acorn House. Personal preferences and nutritional needs are taken into account and the kitchen team work hard to provide a wide range of healthy and tasty choices for residents.

My mother received excellent care from Acorn House during her 4 years at the home. The care staff were, without exception, committed, professional, honest and caring. Their attention to care and detail toward the end of her life were excellent. I have no doubts in recommending Acorn House and the high

Acorn House Care Home is modern with a fit for purpose layout - wide corridors, ensuite rooms and generous provision of communal areas. The staff are committed, warm and generally sensitive to the variable behaviours and conditions of dementia. Residents benefit from the support of a dedicated pool
of staff who work as a team. My mum has much-diminished capability from the time of her admission. Whilst this is incredibly upsetting, I am impressed with how well staff have/are adapting. This social environment is the best setting to offer her the care and support she needs, of course, complemented by family visits.

My mother stayed at Acorn House for two-weeks respite care whilst I was away. On my return, she said she had enjoyed her stay and she felt that she had made friends with staff and others within the home. During this time she had been taken out into the local community for pub lunch and attended some
of the activities. I feel this time, was well worth the money.

My grandma came in for a few weeks respite. She loved the staff on the ground floor, she engaged in loads of activities each day. She extremely loved the meals.

My experience over the last three years has been overall positive. Dad has been well cared for and respected. Any minor incidents have been fully reported and addressed immediately. I am confident he is always well looked after and even though he prefers not to join in many activities the invitation
is always open. The staff are all marvellous. I am very happy with their care.

Clean, bright accommodation with high quality fixtures and fittings, with staff who really care and are committed - from owner, through management team, a group dedicated to organising activities (outings etc) for the guests, the reception/admin team, the chef/catering team and, of course, the front
line carers/nursing staff. All always very pleasant, positive and helpful. Mum could not have been made more comfortable and relaxed, nor, given her condition, secured and enjoyed a better quality for the last three and a half years of her life than being resident in Acorn. Highly recommended.

The resident is a very difficult person and is used to one to one care. You coped well with her attitude and bossiness as well as being patient and kind. Although it didn't work for the resident, this has no bearing on you or the staff. Well done to all of you. You work hard, work well and the staff

My mother suffered a small stroke this month. The staff noticed the problem straight away and called an ambulance. They telephoned me promptly and kept me informed. Following her admission to hospital, the Acorn House staff liaised directly with the hospital staff and were able to arrange for my mother
to be transferred back to Acorn House at the earliest opportunity after two and a half days.
We were all extremely grateful that my mother was able to get back to friendly, familiar surroundings asap.

Mum has been at Acorn House for two years. She was transferred to the home at short notice having been given 48hrs to move from a previous home. In what could have been a traumatic experience for a 93 year old Alzheimers sufferer she immediately settled in. Due mainly to the staff who gave her much
reassurance and support. Since that time I've found the staff/management to be caring. I've witnessed awkward moments among residents I.e arguments and aggression. The staff have been quick to intervene and diffuse situations in a calm and understanding manner.
There does not seem to be a great turnover of staff. The staff remain on the same floor as the residents. This gives staff and residents time to get to know each other. The staff can assess each resident's needs and personality/temperament. Yes, the tv is on most of the day for those that want it, however, an effort is made to give residents a varied range of activities. Bingo, art, singing and having nails painted being mums favourites.
I know that when I've left my mum at Acorn House Care Home that she is safe and in good hands. She is happy when she's got a cup of tea and some company. There's plenty of both at Acorn House.

Beautifully furnished, decorated and maintained. Plenty of space and lounges so that you can find your own space and privacy. All en-suite single rooms which are spacious. Staff are warm and welcoming and attentive to service user needs. We would definitely recommend and use again. Thank you for looking

Staff and management team are attentive to residents' needs, inc. those of my mother. Activities team members accede to my mother's wishes not to participate, so give her preference in visits to cafes and restaurants. Overall, I am perfectly happy for my mother to reside at Acorn House.

Welcome to Acorn House!


I have been working in the sector for the past 20 years following the death of my father in 2001. While he was receiving palliative care at home I have been looking after him. My passion was always in care and making a difference no matter how big or small it was. After spending 12 years in 24-hour nursing care, I decided to move to residential care.


I came to work for Acacia Care 7 years ago and I have held many positions within the company from Night Manager, Care Manager, Home Manager and Regional Support Manager to my now current role as General Manager. I feel very honoured and privileged to have been given this opportunity to manage Acorn House and I hope my work and the work of the team will make a difference in the lives of our residents and their families.
