Acorn House is a purpose-built residential care home based in the community of Carrington, Nottingham, that also specialises in dementia care. The spacious interiors and homely decorations complement the work of professional carers, and create a calming and homely atmosphere.

En-suite rooms and landscaped gardens delight residents and their families, who also have their own on-site cafe to enjoy. Health and wellbeing needs are very important and the Activities Coordinators work with residents and families to develop an exciting programme of activities and events that are tailored to personal interests.

Residents and staff go out into the community and the community are invited into the home, in order to build positive relationships and enable social inclusion for residents. They are also many intergenerational activities so that residents are able to engage with all age groups, from toddlers to college students.

All care is carried out in a bespoke fashion, with passion, empathy and enthusiasm at the centre of all decisions taken. Carers understand the importance of person-centred care, and the residents needs and preferences are placed at the centre of their care.

Choices at mealtimes are provided to all residents and they take great pride in the dining experience at Acorn House. Personal preferences and nutritional needs are taken into account and the kitchen team work hard to provide a wide range of healthy and tasty choices for residents.

Fantastic care at all times, so grateful to all of the staff. They are brilliant and go above and beyond for my Nan. I wouldn't want her to be in any other care home besides Acorn House. I would recommend it to anyone who was looking for their loved ones to stay. Thank you to the team.

After an accident at home and being hospitalised my brother was admitted to Acorn House where he has been for almost three years. He settled in well due to the staff being so caring and friendly.
There are plenty of activities, days out, and entertainers in the home.
The home is always spotlessly
clean which makes it very welcoming for visitors.
I would highly recommend this care home.

Mum is happy at Acorn House. She says the staff are very kind and friendly. She looks so much better and relaxed since she arrived 3 months ago. I wish they had more outings arranged for residents though.

Overall we are pleased with the care. The staff seem caring and know and understand residents. I notice that the home is very busy and sometimes I wonder if this means details may be missed, such as the cleaning of dentures.
The activities provided are excellent and a good way to keep people engaged,
it would be good if there was more conversation throughout the day, but I appreciate this is difficult when staff are so busy.

Acorn House Care Home is a well-run care home with many good aspects to recommend it. The staff are caring and considerate towards the residents who benefit from a varied menu and entertaining activities as appropriate. However, the needs of residents with dementia and multiple complex needs would be
better met by improved/higher staffing levels (i.e. at least one above the legal minimum at all times).

My mom has been at Acorn House for a few years now. She loves this place so much. My dad was here too when Acorn House first opened and was one of the first residents. Acorn House has been a great place to be for the care the support value for money and always kept clean and tidy. Mom never complains
about the assortment of food given at all meal times. The management and staff are first class.

I visited four care homes before deciding Acorn House was the best option for my relative. I could see them living here. My relative has been at Acorn for five months now. The move has gone much better than I anticipated. They have settled into Acorn really well and are happy and content, looking after
my relative's needs. The care is person-centred. Any concerns or problems have been resolved or measures put in place for my relative's well-being.
There are daily activities for residents and Acorn House is well designed for people with dementia. Overall, I am really happy with Acorn, relieved that my relative is being well looked after.

If there were options to rate Acorn House Care Home more highly than excellent, I would be using them liberally. My mother-in-law took up residence after a fall and lived happily there for two years as her Alzheimer’s and Dementia progressed. At every point, Acorn House delivered on what it promised
and more often than not exceeded their own high standards. Sadly, my relative died very recently but the care, compassion and professionalism shown by all the staff to her and to the family was extraordinarily high and has left an indelibly favourable view on us of them all.
The Home seems to me to be values-driven and this shows at all levels and in all aspects of the provision.
Reply from Jo Armstrong, Front of House manager at Acorn House Care HomeThank you so much for your lovely review of our Home and Our staff. We strive very hard to offer the best care with compassion, empathy and person centered care. It is really good for other people to have an insight to how loving and caring our staff are.
Your Mother-in-law will certainly be missed here at Acorn House.
Warmest wishes to all of you

Acorn House has cared for my mother with exceptional kindness, respect and compassion. Staff relationships with her have been genuinely warm and consistently ensure her dignity is maintained. As relatives we have experienced similarly outstanding care, respect and kindness from the whole staff team.
Staff have communicated regularly with us to review care plans and promptly when necessary. It is apparent that the staff work and communicate as a team, resulting in a coherent standard from front of house, office staff, the catering and cleaning teams, activity coordinators and carers. Meals have been appetising and varied with special requests met whenever possible. My mother's room has always been clean and well maintained and her clothes carefully laundered. The wide range of activities offered is outstanding. One example was that my mother’s wish on the wishing tree was to hear bagpipes. A few weeks later on Burns Night the chef carrying a haggis was piped in by a piper!

We could not have found a better care home for our mother. The staff went far over and above the necessary tasks and provided a loving care environment. The many activities offered, the personal connections and the flexibility in coping with individual needs is exemplary.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.872)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.872) out of 10 for Acorn House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 34 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 34 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.872 for Acorn House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (356 Excellents x 5) + (50 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 407 Ratings = 4.872
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Acorn House Care Home is based on 34 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8, which has been reached with 34 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Welcome to Acorn House!

I have been working in the sector for the past 20 years following the death of my father in 2001. While he was receiving palliative care at home I have been looking after him. My passion was always in care and making a difference no matter how big or small it was. After spending 12 years in 24-hour nursing care, I decided to move to residential care.

I came to work for Acacia Care 7 years ago and I have held many positions within the company from Night Manager, Care Manager, Home Manager and Regional Support Manager to my now current role as General Manager. I feel very honoured and privileged to have been given this opportunity to manage Acorn House and I hope my work and the work of the team will make a difference in the lives of our residents and their families.
