A family party was arranged for an 80th birthday, held in the unit. The staff set up the room and greeted us excitedly. They made sure we were not interrupted and helped everyone, especially the birthday girl, to have a lovely afternoon. The general care of my partner is very good and we feel she is happy and safe. Her health has improved and she has a good relationship with her carers.

My wife has been at Seacroft Grange Care Home since it opened. I am quite pleased with the care staff although the last 12 months has been a bit of a letdown, owing to the opening of the new part (The Green). The staff that myself and my wife got on well with have been moved over to the new part, which has left a staff shortage and some of the care staff are agency workers most of the time and it's been difficult to find anyone to talk to. The staff themselves are polite and helpful, my wife seems content which means a lot to me and my family.

You have correctly identified that there has been a great deal of change at Seacroft over the past 10-12 months. The team are doing everything possible to bring consistency and stability to the services that we offer and hopefully, you have already started to see a positive impact. There have been so many changes at Seacroft Grange recently so it is difficult to express a balanced opinion or to feel confident that the unit (Fairview) has stabilised. My view at present is that things have settled somewhat, my overriding opinion is that the intentions of both care staff and management are well meaning. I have seen some wonderful examples of kindness and compassion towards residents.

I have also seen what appeared to me to be a lack of engagement. How we train, respect and value the important roles our carers fulfil will hopefully be reflected in the stability, safety and standard of the unit.

It is always a challenge to strike a balance between stability and the introduction of changes. I've ticked likely, but I need to point out some negatives:- Communication between night and day staff could improve - night staff are agency staff who Mum doesn't understand and movement of staff between wings causes care issues on their return to York wing.
Continuity is key to residents and their families forming good relationships with staff and residents feeling comfortable regarding their intimate needs. There have been some mix ups regarding Mum's medication, I now always check it. However, there are members of the day staff who are excellent doing a very difficult job.
Mum thinks the food is generally ok, but she tells me there isn't much variation on the menu.
Value for money... I was upset that mum had a 10-day hospital stay due to a negligence incident, and we had no offer of a refund of fees or a reduction. Also, a 12.5% increase in fees after only 6 months in residence is excessive.
Generally, it is clean, new, modern with great facilities and activities, but improvements are required regarding the staff working rota to improve continuity.

There has been a lot of change in recent months and the ultimate objective, naturally, is to provide the highest possible quality of care. The team have been working really hard on this and it is unfortunate that during this time we have had to use agency staff - we also recognise that this is far from ideal. I very much hope that you can see some of the benefits of the positive changes which have been made. Our General Manager will contact you directly as we are not aware of a general rise in fees and to discuss your comments in more detail to enable us to make our homes and the care we provide the very best we possibly can. I am highly satisfied with the care in all departments. The nursing and medical care, personal hygiene, activities and catering. I have found all staff very pleasant and helpful in all ways. Choice of menu is very good. I feel my son has benefitted since being at Seacroft Grange as he gets out quite a lot.
The social activities are most adequate. I would highly recommend Seacroft Grange.

Overall staff and management are very good, kind and helpful.
I have had issues with agency nurses, they do not always know with confidence what medication they are giving to residents.
One nurse said to my mum when asked what the tablet was for, that is was for angina, then looked on google and said it is for a number of things.
Agency staff do not get to know residents and residents do not know or trust them.

The staff are very friendly and down to earth.
Some items of clothing have gone missing. No Wi-Fi in room.
Important to let residents know what services are charged for extra otherwise it feels like money being teased out of them.
Overall good experience.

Since March 2014, my son has received premier care on a 24/7 basis.

The carers are all very busy but they always make time. I was impressed by the building and facilities at first but the care staff are the real stars. I visit the home regularly at different times of day and see such a lot of kindness.

My congratulations for the excellent programme provided over the Christmas period. It was imaginative and varied, all publicised in a charming 'Victorian' format. The activities coordinator never fails to amaze me with her enthusiasm, care and forward planning. She is backed-up by a super team who do all they can to provide stimulus and pleasure for the residents who they know and treat as individuals.
