Chesham Leys is a contemporary and welcoming nursing home providing care for people with a wide range of needs including dementia.

The dedicated team of care workers pride themselves on getting to know every person and believe that by understanding their uniqueness, care can be personalised to meet each individuals needs.

The layout of the home has been designed to support and enable a person living with dementia by including ‘features’ throughout the home to make it easier for people to navigate and enjoy the home.

Each wing has its own comfortable lounge and dining room, which are great places for catching up with visitors and also for socialising with other residents. Chesham Leys also benefits from an on-site hairdressing salon and a lovely enclosed garden.

Also on offer are rewarding activities including cognitive stimulation therapy, art therapy and reminiscence activities.

My wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and dementia 11 years ago.
Unfortunately, she needed 24-hour care and five years ago was admitted into a care home and was very well cared for during a very difficult period.
Two years ago she needed nursing care and was moved to Chesham Leys nursing home, both
homes managed by Fremantle.
Fortunately, staff were transferred from the care home to Chesham Leys and she has been extremely well cared for by a team of excellent staff and management.
I really can't praise them highly enough.

Overall Experience 2.0 out of 5
My mother's night wear and underclothes went missing and she was left to sleep in her clothes. EVERY meal she was served was absolutely stone cold, not to mention she was diabetic and still not give regular checks, nor suitable food. The quilt she was given was lumpy and nothing much covered her, so
I had to buy her a new one as she was so cold. Unfortunately, she was taken ill on the night of 19th May, but somehow, Chesham Leys didn't contact us. I received a message at 3.10am, as my mobile phone was off overnight, saying the paramedics had been called, but mum had died. We had neither met, nor spoken to anyone in charge, they had taken NO details or contact numbers, in the 3 weeks she had been there, so didn't have landline number either! No care plan had been discussed, no treatment was discussed and no interest had been taken whatsoever! I had the police come to tell me what had happened at 5 am. The whole episode was traumatic and devastating for our family!
Reply from Karen Cornes, Marketing and Communications Manager at Chesham Leys"We are an organisation continually striving to improve the quality of our service, and whilst we were disappointed to read these comments, we do welcome them. We can confirm that we followed the company’s procedures during the resident’s time with us, including providing appropriate support, care plans and meals in line with her specific dietary requirements. The other points raised are in the process of being discussed with the family directly". Kim Evans, Home Manager.

My husband was admitted approximately 18 months ago. I found Chesham Leys Nursing Home to be run efficiently by the management staff, always willing to help immediately despite their own pressing office duties.
Carers were equally helpful, good humoured and patient with all the residents.
The nursing
home has a responsible training scheme for staff which encourages staff to specialise in their roles i.e dementia.
Food, rooms and facilities are excellent. Residents with difficulty eating/swallowing are extensively encouraged to eat and drink, given blended food where appropriate.
Doctors visit regularly and will consult with relatives when necessary.
Well behaved dogs are allowed to visit residents - a normal life being so important to residents and their families.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.452)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.452) out of 10 for Chesham Leys is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.577 for Chesham Leys is calculated as follows: ( (129 Excellents x 5) + (51 Goods x 4) + (16 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 196 Ratings = 4.577
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Chesham Leys is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 62 registered maximum number of service users is 12.4, which has been reached with 15 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
