The support and care that we receive from the staff during my father's last days were excellent. We were totally overwhelmed by the depth of feeling that they had for him. Their care and compassion made his passing dignified and relaxed. We could not have asked for better or nicer people to support
us and Dad during this time.

Mother was generally well looked after, whilst we were on holiday. The staff welcomed her and made her feel at home and safe. She had been unwell prior to our holiday hence the need for her to stay at Braeburn. She slept well, better than at home and from what we hear joined in with most activities
on offer. As discussed with a member of staff minor issues were a choice of food (not always what she liked) and little access to the phone when friends and relatives rang.

From the initial look around to collecting my mother after her respite care, the whole experience was extremely positive. The attention to detail, the quality of the staff and the whole atmosphere of the Braeburn Lodge left me and my mother feeling that she was in a place of real care and safety. This
had not always been the case with previous respite homes. The fact that my mother has been recommending Braeburn Lodge to all her friends is probably the highest praise!

This was mums second respite visit and from walking in mum was made to feel welcomed back. Staff remembered her from her previous visit, making mum feel at home straight away. Unfortunately mum caught the sickness bug that was in the home at the time but was looked after properly and with the dignity
needed with the "bugs" affect on her.
Thank you Braeburn Deeping St James. Mum is looking forward to seeing you all again soon.

My mum went into Braeburn Lodge for respite while I was on holiday for three weeks. She had never been in a home before and I was dreading it as I thought she would not settle. The first couple of days she struggled and they re-assessed the situation and moved her. She then settled in fine and thought
she worked there! She was allowed to do her own thing, pottering around and helping the carers in their jobs. She was well cared for and that's all we could ask for.

i was greeted warmly and shown to a well equipped and beautifully furnished room. Menus were varied and plentiful - soup being a particular favourite. Despite being very busy the staff were helpful and readily available at all times.

Although Braeburn Lodge is a beautiful care home and did have effective management and nursing staff when it first opened the position has now changed and I would urge anyone thinking of this home to await the CQC to complete their first inspection before considering it.

Thank you for your feedback. This review is now being dealt with by our Senior Management Team and Operations Team and it is part of an on-going complaint that was already being looked in to. Our current nurse staffing levels at the home are in line with CQC regulations.

Mum spent two weeks in respite care and thoroughly enjoyed her "holiday". She will be very happy to go again and said she couldn't fault anything or anybody. Everyone was kind, friendly and caring from the nurses and carers, the chef and the cleaners. She enjoyed the food, the company and the high
quality. For me it was peace of mind to know that mum was in safe hands and happy whilst I was on holiday.

Everything from the first enquiry was totally professional but in a caring way. Mum was welcomed and made to feel part of the home immediately. All staff were a credit to the home. Mum said the food was excellent!

Mom was reluctant to go into respite but once there she settled ok. Unfortunately she did have a couple of falls whilst there but they called medics and it was due to an infection.

We are three daughters who have recently taken difficult decision to move our mother from independent living into care at Braeburn Lodge. Her room is light, with patio doors to the garden and lovely en-suite facilities. The management have facilitated bringing bits of furniture, hanging pictures, photos
and making the room personal and familiar. Crucially they welcomed her small, much loved elderly cat as well. She is really enjoying the food. Most important of all, the staff are without exception superb; caring, thorough, reliable and cheerful. She has settled much better than we feared. We visited a number of homes, and chose with great care. The home is expensive but we believe it offers excellent care, and we have peace of mind knowing that mother is content, safe and enjoying high quality care.

A very appealing and modern environment, easy access round the home and garden. Overall very pleased with my dad's respite stay. Maybe communication between the staff could be improved, for example; information given to one shift was not always passed on the the next shift or management. Also there
were times when I was visiting - that my dad was left for up to 20 minutes after asking to use the toilet before assistance came.

My first impression of Braeburn were warm and welcoming. I could see immediately that no expense had been spared regarding furnishing. The whole atmosphere for me spoke of relaxing, don't worry about anything. That feeling has never gone away and I can go home knowing that my dear husband is in good
hands and nothing is too much trouble. The carers are all hard working and will do pretty much everything you could want. I admire them all. Yes it is expensive and in my view worth every penny. I can go home after visiting knowing that my husband is in good hands. Thank you all for everything you do.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.054)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.054) out of 10 for Barchester Braeburn Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.771 for Barchester Braeburn Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (80 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.771
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.283 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Braeburn Lodge Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.583
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
