As a family we are very pleased with the care my mother is receiving at Green Tree Court.

She is being encouraged to join in and thoroughly enjoyed her recent trip out. The nursing/care staff are very kind to her. I think her room could be cleaner and her laundry hung up better but overall I am very pleased.

Overall Experience
A once vibrant, joyful home where our Mum thrived and her individual needs were supported by respectful, kind, caring, happy staff was bull-dozed with the care model introduced by Somerset Care. From our experience, the changes caused us and Mum unnecessary upset and distress. We originally chose GTC following recommendations, wanting Mum to enjoy the quality of life she deserved whilst living with dementia.
Autumn 2025, there began a noticeable exodus of familiar, permanent staff, replaced by agency staff and significant changes in care provision. Staff were undertaking care responsibilities of what had previously been four other distinct roles and were evidently overwhelmed and run off their feet. This led to minimal social interaction with residents and distinct lack of continuity and consistency in care.

We eventually moved Mum in Dec 25 and we have seen a change for the better. We do not recommend GTC for dementia care.

I cannot recommend Green Tree Court.
It is interesting that no reviews after October are appearing for on this site.
In October the new owners Somerset Care announced a staff consultation on change. Residents and relatives were given no details other than stark statements about financial viability and reducing staff numbers.
This started a chain reaction and the transformation of a once excellent premium home to one that now barely achieves the minimum standard of safe care. Staffing levels have been decimated, vacancies are high.
The new model started on 1st December, now circa 70% of the staff are agency there is no continuity care. Staff combine personal care, food delivery and toilet cleaning duties on the same shift. Care is task focussed with little resident interaction, standards of hygiene are variable and poor, clothing is lost.

We are grateful to the small number of permanent staff who remained their dedication is truly remarkable. Mum now lives elsewhere.

My Husband has been in Green Tree Court for three and a half years.
In that time the Staff have treated him like Family, and he has developed a close bond with them all.
Having Vascular Dementia, he has no recollection of how long he has been in their care, so in his mind he will be returning home when he has recovered from being unwell. I am very grateful that the Staff are always patient with him, have shown him the utmost care, and treated him with dignity.
My Husband has a well furnished room, and is always, when I visit, clean and tidy.

The food is excellent, as is all the Catering Staff.

I have been having respite here for 7 years. I stay for a week at a time. I am disabled with MS. Physically only my left hand and arm work. At Green Tree Court I feel safe and cared for. Over the years I have built up friendships with staff across all elements. The only problem is a lack of carers at some times. Some agency staff are not familiar with my needs and some are difficult to communicate wtih. At times there are too few staff to cope with the number of residents. However I love my stays here. Food is exceptional.

I arrived at Green Tree Court two days later than I expected I had to stay in the hospital at Taunton longer than I thought. I arrived with my daughter in law mid afternoon on the 25th Feb. As soon as we arrived they made us most welcome asked if we had a meal at Taunton we said no and straight away got a meal for us. The care I received was excellent, several members of my family came to see me and stayed for meals the food and experience was excellent would recommend to anyone.

I can't thank you enough for the care you gave to my mum during the last couple of years of her life. Mum was a very independent lady. sometimes cantankerous, but her whole personality changed when she developed dementia. it is such a struggle for her and all her family, but staying at Green Tree Court helped to pacify her, and our family knew she was in safe hands.

As I live over 4 hours away from Exeter the reassurance that mum is somewhere safe ,with staff looking out for her throughout the day and night is wonderful. The care and support she receives is excellent .with everyone encouraging her to eat even though she is not bothered. With the wide range of activities on offer every week there is always something she can participate in. She really enjoys going to the nursery school to help the children and also the occasional visit out to the garden centre . The Green Trees environment is so unlike what you imagine a care home to be from the casual seating areas, the garden and the balconies making it a place you are happy to spend time visiting .

Every time I walk in and out of Green Tree Court I feel a sense of calm and at peace that I'm leaving my Dad in a safe environment. The invaluable specialist Alzheimer's support received from the senior nursing staff here has helped immensely with navigating Dad's Alzheimer's journey. The staff certainly are the jewel in the Green Tree Court crown. The weekly activities timetable is impressive and I've often joined in with a game of armchair boules or 'show & tell' sessions where Dad has enjoyed recounting all his old motorbike trials stories through old photos with other residents. The food is very good too - homemade & tasty. I love the gardens, often enjoying a walk with Dad followed by coffee sat in the sunshine. Green Trees Court has made it possible to still spend quality time with Dad and dealing with a challenging situation in the best way possible.

I am very pleased with the way my Uncle has settled in, the care and attention he receives is excellent.
The care home itself is a bright and welcoming, and the staff are so helpful.
Rooms could be brightened up a bit, but is that up to the resident.

The activities seem very good and it would be good is residents could be given more confidence to join in

Claire KellawayJob Title:Deputy ManagerJoined: 2015

I'm Claire Kellaway, the Deputy Manager at Green Tree Court. I've worked here since 2015, starting firstly as a healthcare assistant, then moving into the office team before stepping into the Deputy Manager role. I love that I can still spend time with the residents and their families whom I get to know very well.

I've got a passion for dogs and I have a border collie called Max who I've often brought into work ever since he was a puppy. The residents are very fond of him! I've lived in Devon for 25 years after moving around a lot when I was younger due to my dad being in the forces. I love working here as I feel like I have an extended family.

Tim Ware
Tim WareJob Title:Head ChefJoined: 2014

I studied at Exeter Catering College for 2 years whilst working weekends at Michael Cains at the Royal Clarence Hotel. On leaving college, I worked full-time and gained a wealth of experience working on all sections from starters through to pastry. After five years, I moved to Shropshire to the 5 AA Star Albrighton Hall Hotel as Sous Chef and helped the team gain 3 AA Rosettes.

After two years, I moved back to Devon to take CDP at the Jack in the Green Restaurant and moved from there when offered the Head Chef position at The Diggers Rest, a gastro pub in Devon. Four years later, I took a position at Green Tree Court as a Sous Chef and in 2015 I got promoted to Head Chef.

In 2016, I won the National Care Chef of the Year and in 2020 I won NACC Chef of the Year. At Green Tree Court, we strive to give our residents an exceptional culinary experience with every meal they sit down to enjoy. We pride ourselves on using fresh seasonal produce sourced by local suppliers. We are passionate about our residents receiving the very best.

I love my job. It gives me satisfaction working in a care home as you see residents change physically and mentally through the food and care they receive, it can be life changing for them. Working at Green Tree Court feels like being in one big family and there is always something to look forward to each day.
