The staff genuinely care about my mum and have a lot of patience. This care home feels very welcoming and homely too. My mum has put on weight, which was much needed.

The home is outstanding! My mother is extremely well cared for and cared about. Even though at times she can be challenging. The staff are endlessly kind and patient and funny and always professional. This comes from the example set by the management. Nothing is too much, never are they too busy. We are so grateful to know Mum is happy and safe.

Cleves Place is a fantastic care home. My dad has been there for over seven years and is very well cared for. He really likes it there. I could not recommend a better care home. The staff go out of their way to help the residents. The food is great, staff are fantastic.

My husband had a major stroke in March 2022, after hospital and rehab he was still paralyzed on one side, so was unable to return home. I visited several care homes before Cleves Place, and having seen around Cleves I never considered anywhere else.
I felt Cleves Place was outstanding, with its full bathroom facilities for each bedroom, variety of areas for residents to spend their days - coffee shop, lounge, dining room etc, and most importantly a nicely kept garden area with a reasonable length of the path to walk or push a wheelchair, and separate external sitting areas.
Over the months that he has been at Cleves, my husband has clearly improved. He spends time in the coffee shop and comments to me how everyone who passes greets him by name, not just the people who have direct responsibility for him on Diamond.

Naturally, he would prefer to be fit, well and at home. Sadly he isn't and in the circumstances, I feel that his care at Cleves is everything that I hoped it would be.

My 93-year-old mother had to go into urgent respite care, which was a hard decision to make, but from the initial contact with Cleves Place from management to staff I knew this was the place for her and after excellent advice from the manager we took Mum to look around, she was made so welcome from the moment we arrived. In fact, so welcome Mum has decided she wants to stay permanently. The care she has been given by the staff is excellent, and the home itself offers everything to cater for Mum's needs.

It is difficult when you have to decide that a person needs more care than you can give them and after promising that you would keep them in their own home for as long as you could, finding a home that you trust to do this can be hard but in Cleves Place, we have found this. In my mother's words, she feels safe and looked after by staff that care.

Fantastic in every way. From management through to carers and utility staff, everyone is just so helpful and cheerful. The home is modern but homely for the residents. There are a wide range of activities to stimulate and entertain but the real emphasis is on care and all the staff are so wonderful. I just cannot rate them highly enough. Above first-class with a smile.

I usually wear my FFP2 masks, I have covered them with an old flowery dress. They washed.

An NHS study found staff wearing FFP1, 2 and 3 provide the highest protection from Covid. I have been wearing these but had to wear the surgical masks when visiting my mother in Cleves Place Care Home. This is where I contracted Covid.

Thanks so much for taking the time to write your review and rating Cleves Place care home five stars.
As I’m sure you are aware face masks are mandatory in health and care settings and the face masks that we are provided for employees and visitors are the surgical masks.

However, during that time, we were impressed with the person who looked after us and the home in general.

A very good care home. Staff very friendly and good with the residents. They look after everybody very well. However, I do feel the food is not good and often the elderly residents are offered food which they don't know of, "ie fear to have bread" a main course for supper. Elderly people want good old fashioned food. My relative is very happy indeed apart from the food. It's generally a happy place.

Reply from Samantha Debenham, Personal Assistant at Cleves Place

Thank you for your wonderful comments for the care and support we provide your mother here at Cleves Place. We are sorry to hear that the food offering has not met your expectations. We understand the importance of making mealtimes enjoyable for residents and we take great care in our menu planning...

Cannot thank the manager and her team enough for all their hard work under this pandemic. Being able to go in to see your relative now is ace, everything is well managed from testing temperature, to entrance, to PPE to the finish. The staff are all so welcoming it feels homely, always lovely and clean and smells fresh. Mum always looks clean and tidy and is always happy. Her room is spotless. We are always kept informed as to what is happening not only in the home but with Mum too by telephone calls and emails, updating us on any changes to her care or needs. It is so lovely to receive a monthly news letter showing us what the residents have been doing, from cake baking to gardening and chair exercises. It makes us feel at ease knowing Mum is happy and well looked after and treated with respect.

As the daughter of a 92-year-old resident with dementia, I am particularly pleased with:
- the overall quality of care. Nothing is too much trouble. Staff are extremely friendly, work as a team and consistently demonstrate their commitment to the residents.
- quality of food; my father has to have mashed food but his choices are respected and staff make every effort to make sure he still has a varied diet
- range of activities: my father has been actively and successfully encouraged to follow his interests. He is helping to grow plants and vegetables in the garden and his artwork has been displayed at the local Arts Centre.
- accessibility of managers, who are always ready to help.
The following improvements could be made:
- it should be considered as to whether it is appropriate for staff to smoke on-site, albeit in an outside area. Hospital staff seem to manage!

- My father is bladder incontinent and his room sometimes smells, particularly at weekends. This needs closer oversite.

Very pleasant and well-run home with day care centre and internal daily activities for residents. Staff and management are truly amazing, they really care for the people they care for on a daily basis. This visit, I was here for my mothers 92nd birthday, which they helped her and us celebrate with cake, balloons and presents. Good feeling knowing that this place looks after my mother so well, and always make us "the family" welcome on all visits.

My husband was in Cleves Place for 2 weeks respite. He was so well cared for. Nothing was too much for the carers who were looking after him. To help him settle he went to the day centre daily which is part of his routine at home. When he next needs respite I will definitely be sending him back to Cleves Place as he was happy there.

Cleves Place really cares. Every staff member we have met cares for and about the residents and their families. This is a testament to the training certainly, but much more to the culture and recruitment. The home is clean, well-maintained and very suited to care. The activities are varied and engaging but without any undue pressure to involve any who might be reluctant. Call bells are answered promptly and with discretion and dignity. Simply put : mum is cared for - thank you.

I joined Cleves Place in 2015 as I liked Care UK’s vision and values. The home has a great family atmosphere, and we have a fantastic team here who work really well together to deliver the best care and experience for residents.

I love being able to make a difference in a resident’s life. If I can complete my shift knowing a resident has smiled and is happy, I feel I have achieved my goal. I also enjoy empowering colleagues to do their best work.

I’ve been working in the care sector for over twenty years, and I enjoy sharing my knowledge with new colleagues and watching them grow in confidence in their role.

I also like to keep learning and developing my own skills. One of my biggest professional challenges has been completing my Level 5 Diploma in Management. I’ve also had an article published in a palliative care publication.
