My mother is very happy at Larkhill Hall. She has visibly become very chatty, has made friends, and no longer is sad and lonely. She enjoys all the activities she takes part in.

My mum went in for respite for two weeks, £950 per week. First of all, they lost her Covid result so a four-day delay. Was going to see her through the window. My findings, she was not given her medication, she was not given her hearing aids, she had not had a shower, she could not get into her wardrobe
as they had the wheelchair in front of it. The wheelchair seat was put under the cushion on her armchair, so when she sat on it, her legs were dangling. There was no 1-2-1 care as promised. After the fifth day had to bring her out, she looked homeless, the four staff on for thirty-six, 1-2-1 residents were rushed off their feet and said didn't have the time to help her shower. Most of her clothes and all her toiletries disappeared and 30 pounds out of her purse. I wouldn't send a stray animal there, never mind a human and no refund was given. How can they have five stars? Even the member of staff who helped me get her out said to be quick and rushed us out before she was stopped, she understood.

We have looked back into this matter from when Mum stayed with us over a year ago and were surprised to find that there were no complaints or issues raised at the time of Mum’s stay. Our records from that time clearly evidence that Mum’s care and personal care was carried out to our usual high standards. However, your feedback is extremely important to us and we would like to discuss this further with you. Please contact our Home Manager, at your convenience.

My family and I with much heartache had to put mum into Larkhill Care Home. From day one the Larkhill staff have welcomed mum and took great care of her and her wellbeing. We visit and mum has nothing but praise for all the staff and the home itself. Were happy that mum's happy! Keep up the excellent
work you're doing!

As soon as I entered the car park of Larkhill Hall and then the building, I was immediately impressed by the environment. The modern exterior, the well cared for grounds and gardens and the bright and welcoming reception area were impressive. The visit to my dad opened my eyes as to what ‘great care’
looks like! The internal fabric of the building was more akin to a very decent hotel. His room was bright and airy and immaculately clean. He was alert, was eating, drinking and chatting. It was obvious that he had improved so much in the week he had been a resident. The carer who came into his room on a couple of occasions during the visit was absolutely wonderful to him, affording him the right balance of care and respect. The professionalism and knowledge of all the staff I met during my visit and their absolute commitment to delivering the best possible environment for the clients were evident. For sure, the staff are responsible for turning this care home into a 'caring' home.

As I've stated before, Larkhill made the transition for my mum from being in her own home to Larkhill extremely well. They have a very personal touch and constantly update and make recommendations as things change, which, as we know with dementia, is so important and necessary.

My mother has been a resident at Larkhill Hall for 3 and a half years and she is very happy living there. She is very well looked after and cared for by the staff, all of whom are very approachable. The management and staff are also very supportive of the family. This last year has been challenging
for everyone. When visits were not allowed the staff dealt really patiently with our numerous telephone calls and they were always able to reassure us about my mother's well being. Once visits were allowed, the management actively facilitated them, whilst ensuring that the safety of my mother and other residents was never compromised. As a family, we are very grateful.

My mum had dementia and was placed in Larkhill in December 2018 from hospital after breaking her hip. She never settled but that was due to her Dementia. She always wanted to go home and was very anxious and afraid. It's a shame she never settled because all the staff at the time, bar one, where so
amazing with my mum and they loved and took care of her so well. Devastatingly Mum passed away with Covid-19 whilst in the care of Larkhill and although it had been like my second home also, I just felt that there should have been more help and understanding for myself and my boys after her passing. We are left devastated and confused. Mum should have been safe in care and yet was left vulnerable. I was sent a letter to say that at some stage there will be a memorial for all lost with covid there. I do hope that this is still the plan at some stage because we are yet to be able to have a memorial for my beautiful mum and nanna, one she so deserved. Devastated beyond any words.

My partner has serious early onset Dementia and is also doubly incontinent.
She spent a short spell in respite care at the end of September 2020, and I must admit that I was a little apprehensive as to her demeanour during her stay.
What an absolutely amazing transformation in her due to the high
level of care that she received during her stay.
Not only had the wonderful staff managed to wash her hair (1st time since Jan 2020) they also managed to get her to have at least two showers (1st since Jan 2020).
She looked so different in the nicest possible way. She was happy and chatty on the way home and even ate all her tea once we arrived home.
I can only say to anyone considering having their loved one(s) stay at Larkhill Hall care home, put your complete trust in the professional and caring staff at this outstanding care home, you will not be disappointed.
In fact, you will reap the rewards that this outstanding care home provides.
100% outstanding.

This is a caring and very comfortable place for elderly residents. My mother has dementia and has been in respite in two previous care homes but this is undoubtedly the best of the three. The carers generally go out of their way to cheer up the residents and make them feel at home, whilst keeping them
safe and secure with various activities and a variety of comfortable areas to sit in with family and friends, as well as an individual and spacious bedroom.

Fabulous care home with outstanding facilities. Staff are excellent and really friendly. My mum stayed here for two weeks and we couldn't fault a day, she was looked after amazingly - I felt at ease leaving my mum here in their care.
The food choice was great, caters to everyone's taste and the rooms
were spotlessly clean. There is a salon on site, my mum had her hair done twice in the short amount of time she was there. My family and I haven't got one bad word to say about this care home.

1.   Review your staffing provision – particularly for weekends and bank holidays.
2.   Rooms to be deep cleaned at least once a week – armchairs and chairs to be removed and thoroughly cleaned – if not replaced.
3.   Physical activities eg Tai Chi to be in place each day.
4.   All staff to wear name badges.
5.   Wall
mounted TV sets with access to sports channels.
6.   Extra staff in the laundry.
7.   More shade required in the garden – umbrellas etc. New tables and chairs required.

My mum has lived in Larkhill Hall over two years. During this time, we have visited 3 times as we live in the USA. The facility has improved since the beginning. Interaction and entertainment are much better. Providing activities is very important for dementia patients and I'm glad to see this is happening.
Otherwise being deaf, my mum would be sleeping in front of the TV. I call from the USA nearly every week to check on Mum and the staff do their best to take the phone to her or wake her in the lounge. This is important as she knows me on the phone.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.246)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.246) out of 10 for Larkhill Hall is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.664 for Larkhill Hall is calculated as follows: ( (95 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 119 Ratings = 4.664
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.582 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Larkhill Hall is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 66 registered maximum number of service users is 13.2. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 13.2 = 0.682
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
