Chaucer House Care Home is a purpose-built facility. The luxury care home provides residential, nursing and dementia care for 60 residents. At Chaucer House, staff work to create a welcoming atmosphere and put the health and wellbeing of the residents at the heart of everything they do.

The modern design provides well equipped, bright lounges and en-suite bedrooms to support person-centred care in which residents enjoy activities and make friends with other residents and staff. At the heart of the home is their Philosophy of Care, the Eden Alternative, where staff encourage social interaction, engagement and work towards the eradication of loneliness and boredom.

All 60 ensuite bedrooms are decorated to a hotel standard, while residents also have access to a choice of lounges, a cafe, rooftop terrace and garden room, shop and beauty spa.

My mum spent a period of respite here and was so happy she chose Chaucer House to be her permanent home. I am so glad that she did, she had a stroke whilst a resident, and was able to be discharged back to the home following her hospital admission.
She is totally reliant on the nurses and carers for
all her needs, she requires to be spoon-fed thickened fluids to survive and was not expected to live for long following her stroke.
Six months later she has celebrated her 86th birthday, in lockdown at the home. The nurses and carers have become her second family, they arranged a pureed birthday cake of strawberries and cream, her favorite food, washed down with some Baileys!
She has received excellent care and support and would not have survived without the help that has been provided by the team at Chaucer House.

My father came to Chaucer House in early December last year after having a bad experience at another home, so we were nervous about where to go next. However, from the moment we walked through the doors, we were met by lovely friendly staff who made us feel at home straight away. When dad came here,
he was wheelchair bound, couldn’t feed himself and was partially incontinent. Within 3 days of arrival, he was walking with the aid of his Zimmer frame and able to independently feed himself. Unfortunately, my father had a series of strokes and became very ill after 6 weeks of arrival. We needn’t have worried. The staff set up an advanced palliative care plan immediately and my father was treated with such compassion and dignity by all the staff, including the domestics- we couldn’t ask for more. He passed away on 30th January and the nurses and staff were by his side constantly. His death was dignified and peaceful- thank you all from the bottom of our hearts! Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

My father was put onto fast track, we were given a list of homes that had spaces, only 2 being in Canterbury. We visited both homes and decided on Chaucer House. He was moved from hospital to the home on 22nd January. From the start we were impressed with his care, the staff always made sure he was
clean and shaved, he even had a haircut while in there. His room was near the nurse's station and whenever anyone went past they always made a point of speaking to him and asking how he was, this meant a lot to him and us. Every member of staff would do this including the nurses, HCAs, catering and housekeeping. When we visited we were always impressed with the care of all the patients. When Dad was getting near the end of his life he became very frightened especially at night, often a member of staff would just sit in his room with him, this was a big comfort to us, it took a little of the pressure off. Dad passed away on the 1st April, the home phoned us straight away and were very supportive.

After having a previous home for my father which was far from satisfactory he came here with some scepticism. Fortunately, we were all proved wrong, the team here are all second to none. All the staff from cleaners, carers, nurses were, without doubt, friendly, caring and compassionate. Sadly my father
passed away due to cancer but his last moments were made comfortable by everyone there.

When visiting my dear friend I have always found that I had a warm welcome by all the staff.
The cleanliness and cosiness of the home were excellent.
I have had lunch there and was surprised at not only the quality of food but choices.

My dad has been at Chaucer House for nearly two years. He can be very difficult but thanks to the patient care of all the staff he is much more settled and content. On arrival, we always receive a very warm welcome as my husband has daycare two days a week. The surroundings are bright, clean and comfortable and there is space to move around.
I appreciate the design of the building providing various seating spaces and a good garden area.

I find the caring organisation and food are all excellent. There are a couple of points about the building which could be improved in future structures. 1) The opening windows are ridiculous. The opening could be, at least, 5 times greater without being dangerous. 2) The keypads for door opening are
too far from the doors. It seems the time delay is not adjustable so there is insufficient time for a wheelchair user to reach the door before it clicks shut.

The staff and facilities are outstanding and I feel confident that my elderly father is very well looked after.

The staff at Chaucer House are so friendly and approachable, I never feel awkward asking about mum's care. After I have visited mum, I leave in the knowledge that she is safe, comfortable and well looked after. The facilities here are excellent and there are always interesting activities on offer.

Our dearest friend was admitted initially for respite care December 2017. With a diagnosis of cancer, it was soon realised that she would end her life in this establishment. She left this world in the first few days of February 2018. Whilst staying in Chaucer House her treatment from the staff of all
levels was wonderful, they treated her with dignity, respect and more importantly ...love. As constant visitors, we were treated with respect and with so much help and understanding. The manager and all her staff were amazing to us all and thanks are not enough.

This is truly a home. The care is personal, committed, thoughtful. Noticeable is the strong set of positive relationships between carers and staff as well as carers and residents. The atmosphere is one of deep respect, enticed by a constant checking of residents needs and of warm affection and love
