Living overseas I feel confident leaving my 95-year-old mother in the care of Chaucer House. Despite my mother's vulnerability suffering from what is verging on advanced dementia and being restricted due to her severe mobility problems this home, its staff and management give me peace of mind keeping at bay those insidious nighttime worries that would otherwise keep me awake.

I would like to say, from the day our mother came to Chaucer House Care Home until the day she left, I have nothing but praise for all the staff and I mean all - the receptionist, carers, managers, housekeepers, chefs, maintenance staff and activity organiser. Everyone has shown support, respect and care for the residents and relatives. Mum died recently, she always said how happy she was at Chaucer House. That made her family happy.

My father has spent five happy years at Chaucer House Care Home. Staff have been wonderful. Their approach to his requests to enable him to use his digital technology, to pursue his interests and to enable visits and outings has been understanding and invariably helpful. Dad’s mobility has recently become a problem and the busy staff have responded well with practical help and with kindness.

Due to a shortage of permanent staff, the knowledge of agency staff is not constant. There should be more time given for any agency staff to be made aware of all the needs of the individual. Care home staffing is much in the news at the moment and the staff at Chaucer House Care Home are incredibly kind and caring but are constrained by bureaucracy and red tape - needless to say, their wages are pitiful and it is no wonder there is a constant need for agency staff.

The standard across the board is very good. Any issues that I have raised have been dealt with quickly and professionally. Considering that staff levels are lower and (poorly paid), they perform overall extremely well.

My family and I have been very pleased with the care our mother has received in the home. All the staff are helpful, cheerful, professional and take much care to ensure residents have all they need.
Mum is well looked after here.

My recently deceased dad was a resident at Chaucer House during the past 9 months, where sadly at times his dementia could make him a difficult man to deal with. We came upon Chaucer House after researching the care offered along with reading many reviews. From day one dad was given a very warm welcome by all staff members. Our concerns regarding nursing homes were soon diminished, as it soon became very apparent the care and kindness he received from the manager and all members of staff were wonderful and genuine. He himself regularly praised the care and assistance they gave him which was always nice to hear. The family would highly recommend Chaucer House for the care and compassion given to both resident and family members. We appreciated being allowed to visit my dad during his last few days, especially in these very difficult times. The family would like to take this opportunity in thanking all staff members at Chaucer House, you were wonderful!

My mum spent a period of respite here and was so happy she chose Chaucer House to be her permanent home. I am so glad that she did, she had a stroke whilst a resident, and was able to be discharged back to the home following her hospital admission.
She is totally reliant on the nurses and carers for all her needs, she requires to be spoon-fed thickened fluids to survive and was not expected to live for long following her stroke.
Six months later she has celebrated her 86th birthday, in lockdown at the home. The nurses and carers have become her second family, they arranged a pureed birthday cake of strawberries and cream, her favorite food, washed down with some Baileys!
She has received excellent care and support and would not have survived without the help that has been provided by the team at Chaucer House.

Thank you!

My father came to Chaucer House in early December last year after having a bad experience at another home, so we were nervous about where to go next. However, from the moment we walked through the doors, we were met by lovely friendly staff who made us feel at home straight away. When dad came here, he was wheelchair bound, couldn’t feed himself and was partially incontinent. Within 3 days of arrival, he was walking with the aid of his Zimmer frame and able to independently feed himself. Unfortunately, my father had a series of strokes and became very ill after 6 weeks of arrival. We needn’t have worried. The staff set up an advanced palliative care plan immediately and my father was treated with such compassion and dignity by all the staff, including the domestics- we couldn’t ask for more. He passed away on 30th January and the nurses and staff were by his side constantly. His death was dignified and peaceful- thank you all from the bottom of our hearts! Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

My father was put onto fast track, we were given a list of homes that had spaces, only 2 being in Canterbury. We visited both homes and decided on Chaucer House. He was moved from hospital to the home on 22nd January. From the start we were impressed with his care, the staff always made sure he was clean and shaved, he even had a haircut while in there. His room was near the nurse's station and whenever anyone went past they always made a point of speaking to him and asking how he was, this meant a lot to him and us. Every member of staff would do this including the nurses, HCAs, catering and housekeeping. When we visited we were always impressed with the care of all the patients. When Dad was getting near the end of his life he became very frightened especially at night, often a member of staff would just sit in his room with him, this was a big comfort to us, it took a little of the pressure off. Dad passed away on the 1st April, the home phoned us straight away and were very supportive.

After having a previous home for my father which was far from satisfactory he came here with some scepticism. Fortunately, we were all proved wrong, the team here are all second to none. All the staff from cleaners, carers, nurses were, without doubt, friendly, caring and compassionate. Sadly my father passed away due to cancer but his last moments were made comfortable by everyone there.

When visiting my dear friend I have always found that I had a warm welcome by all the staff.
The cleanliness and cosiness of the home were excellent.
I have had lunch there and was surprised at not only the quality of food but choices.

Thank you for caring.

My dad has been at Chaucer House for nearly two years. He can be very difficult but thanks to the patient care of all the staff he is much more settled and content. All the staff, no matter what their role, are friendly, take an interest in my dad and give him the very best care. I cannot thank them enough for all that they do for him?
