I found Sherwood Grange and managed to get my over 100-year-old former neighbour in just before Christmas. She settled in well having finally accepted she could no longer cope with only limited care at home. The staff are all very kind and (certainly pre-Covid) encouraged her to mix with others. (On
one Sunday visit I found her in her lounge singing along to piano tunes being played by a senior member of the care staff.)
It’s been difficult in the last few months as it’s been impossible to visit and difficult to speak with her. She sleeps a lot, she can’t manage a phone herself and her hearing is poor so phone calls aren’t always possible or constructive. I tend to send email letters which can be read to her, and I’m grateful that this seems to work. (Although it would be nice to receive a short note back just confirming her reaction or comments.)
I was delighted recently to hear that the home had managed to get someone to give her communion (which I’d been unable to arrange).

My mother has been at Sherwood Grange for two years. The management, carers and support staff, who were always excellent, have surpassed themselves during the pandemic. Safety routines have been introduced to the residents with compassion and tact. Every effort has been made to keep them entertained
and stimulated and a special mention must be made of the entertainments team who have provided so many in-house activities. My mother is being gently supported to live as independent and rich a life as possible.

Finding a care home for our mother was such an anxious time for the family but she has settled in amazingly well thanks to the dedication of all the staff and their ability to tailor activities and interaction to her individual needs.
The team have been so understanding and supportive and we are totally
comfortable that Sherwood is the best place for her. Thanks to Sherwood we have witnessed our mother relax, laugh and be fully engaged in activities, glimpses of our mother before Altzheimer's changed her.
We truly cannot fault Sherwood and are so pleased we didn't choose anywhere else.

I needed care very quickly after a series of cardiac problems and I was unable to return to my former home from hospital. I came to Sherwood Grange having no idea of what to expect and with no time to visit before I moved in. Sometimes fate smiles on you in the dark times. Everyone has seen bad publicity
about the care home system in the UK and I had no idea what to expect. I have been here six months now and consider that I have fallen on my feet (if only, I am now wheelchair-bound). Unexpected levels of kindness abound here unaffected by covid. I am probably the youngest resident but watching the care and attention that is given to the needs of the elderly residents has gone a long way to restoring my faith in the human race. I had no experience of the care system and consider myself very fortunate to be here, not only are my physical needs looked after but liaison with the authorities has been second to none which is something I had no previous experience of.

The care that my friend has received throughout the present pandemic has been very good. The care home has been locked down for a considerable period, but we must all accept that this has been down to keep all of our friends and relatives safe from the virus. The carers have got to be worth their weight
in gold for keeping spirits up. We should all say a huge thank you to them for what they continue to do for the residents. We can only hope that they will be able to open up for visitors very soon, which will help the mental health of some who feel isolated.

My mum was one of Sherwood's first residents and I can not speak more highly about the Grange and its wonderful staff. I live a distance from Kingston but always knew my mum was in the best possible hands, was being kept occupied (even when sometimes she thought at first she did not want to be) and
received all the medical care she needed. Towards the end, the team were even more attentive to her needs and saw us all through this difficult and very sad time. We will all remember our time as part of the Sherwood Grange extended family with great fondness.

This is an amazing care home. It’s so clean, safe and well run that I happily take my 2 year old in to see my grandma (pre-COVID obviously). We also love the regular Facebook posts and send them around the family saying ‘see what grandma’s been up to now’! All the arts and crafts, films, trips and music
activities have kept her very well entertained. We really couldn’t ask for her to be in anywhere brighter, or more caring. I would highly recommend to anyone.

If you’re looking for a caring and stimulating environment that feels like home, and that you can trust, then look no further than Sherwood Grange. Moving into Sherwood Grange over 18 months ago has been a positive experience for my mother and all the family. A relaxed smiling face has replaced the
often, anxious face whilst struggling at home. Staff are always running the extra mile, particularly evident during the current COVID situation. The activities are second to none, and spending time really getting to know the residents and their life stories is reflected in the activities organised both in Sherwood Grange and in the community.

My husband has FTD and was moved to Sherwood Grange on 19th January 2020, in spite of the lockdown the staff of carers, managers and lifestyle coordinators would appear to have worked tirelessly in extremely difficult circumstances. The home has done its best to keep things running smoothly, the staff
are always happy to speak to me and tell me how things are, through what has been a difficult time. Prior to COVID my husband was involved in activities and enjoying the cheerful, calm atmosphere as well as the three-course meals and particularly the full English breakfast.

During an extremely difficult time for everyone, I feel that the care my aunt has been given during lockdown has been second to none. After speaking with my aunt regularly (which has been made possible by great staff) I am told the activities team are always on hand to keep spirits up and plan things
to do while going out hasn't been possible. We have been kept up to date and my aunt says she cannot fault the care and support she has been given and to me that's most important. Again, shame the food is not the greatest.

Covid has been difficult for everyone, but care homes have been at the forefront of the epidemic, trying to protect residents from getting this virus. I have felt very relieved to know that my mother is being well looked after and that every precaution possible has been taken to minimise risk. Although
under enormous pressure, the staff have continued to be very professional, careful, and kind. The lack of access to testing (the government initiated this much too late) made things even more challenging, given that many people are asymptomatic. As soon as testing became available, the home has been systematically testing staff and residents, which is very reassuring, and has helped the home become Covid free.

My mum has now been a resident at the Sherwood Grange for just over a month, and despite making the difficult decision to move mum to a care home, we are delighted that we were able to find such an active, creative and friendly place for her to live. All the Sherwood Grange staff have gone out of their
way to ensure mum settled in quickly, even with all the restrictions in place. Mum is able to sit in the garden and socialise (at a distance) with other residents and the buddy’s, and we have treasured the garden gate visits. Mum said just this week how lovely all the carers and staff were and we can see she is now very happy despite the great change in her environment. So, so far so good and we can’t wait to see her flourish even more as she becomes part of the gang!

My mother-in-law came to Sherwood Grange just before Xmas 2019. The level of care has been very high since then. Throughout lockdown with Covid-19 the communication has been excellent. The level of care has been very high. Staff have worked exceptionally hard to keep the residents safe and happy. I
am impressed at the level of care and effort. My husband and I feel lucky to have found this place and for our relative to be here.

My mother is quite a difficult and demanding woman. I really appreciate how patient, polite and kind the carers are to her. The entertainers are particularly good at including everyone, being creative, and they think hard and deeply about the residents and their needs. I travel a lot and feel very comforted
to know that my mother is safe and being cared for while I am away. The staff at the home keep me updated, are very responsive to my queries, and are very good at listening to the residents and responding to their concerns. I have no complaints at all, and would unreservedly highly recommend Sherwood Grange to anyone looking for a care home.

The majority of staff at Sherwood Grange are excellent with my mum and her care. Apart from a few initial hiccups, her time there so far has been great and she is loving living there. She is very happy in the home and the facilities are amazing. We were concerned about moving her into a home but with
her medical needs it became a necessity. We have never regretted our decision. Sherwood Grange is a fantastic residential care home and it meets all my mums needs.

Sherwood Grange is not just a care home. It's my Dad's home. The staff go beyond what is their job role. They truly care for my Dad and the residents. The home is very welcoming to all that visit. A fantastic opportunity for the residents to experience. The home is clean, modern, has a lovely garden
and situated close to local Park. I can not praise the fantastic team at Sherwood enough, nothing is too much. I can honestly say I have peace of mind that my Dad is in a lovely, safe and caring home. I am so thankful we found Sherwood Grange.

The entertainments team normally provide an excellent programme of both internal and external activities, outings to the cinema, theatre, boat trips, London art galleries and many more. Sadly, owing to the current Covid19 situation, these outings are not possible, but the team and staff are really working
very hard at the moment to provide a wide selection of activities within the home. The Management and staff are very caring, and really get to know the residents' interests and hobbies and do whatever they can to help them take part in these.

At Sherwood Grange in Kingston Vale, the activities offered could leave you pale.
Jigsaws, dominoes and also Scrabble - free to all who wish to dabble.
A hair salon for perms and sets, plus manicures if time permits.
In the cinema the space allows, visiting artists to take their bows -
Dancers dance
and singers sing and funny tales make people grin.
The garden has some troughs with flowers - a cheery place to pass the hours.
The coffee lounge is bright and airy with scones and cakes, sometimes fairy.
The staff are lovely, one and all - all shapes and sizes, short and tall.
Three meals a day, biscuits and tea; I wonder - is there room for me?

Job Title: Home Manager

I come from Poland originally, which is where I did my training, and I initially worked in orthopaedics as well as in emergency care.


When I moved to the UK I moved into social care. It was my first experience of it, but I haven’t looked back. I’ve discovered my dream career!


I love Care UK’s ‘fulfilling lives’ ethos: I truly believe that moving into a care home is an opportunity for residents to live life to the full, with care and support. I see it as the start of an exciting new phase of life, and it’s wonderful to see the positive effects of what we do, and how we make people happy.
