Over the last two years, we have always found Fairmile Grange to be a warm and friendly place to visit. The staff are caring and kind and seem to know their residents well. The modern facilities are excellent, and there are many varied activities for the residents to take part in. I would certainly

My mum has been a resident since November 2023, she went initially on a short-term basis when her husband was taken ill, unfortunately, he passed away a few weeks later. We had no hesitation in making her care there permanent after the way they had looked after her over the initial 3 weeks. Mum has
dementia and balance issues. The staff are so friendly to everyone and in a very short space of time, they all seem to know her by name. She has had subsequent falls and she has been well looked after both medically and emotionally. We all live far away but the staff contact us if anything has happened and keep us updated at all times. It is a great peace of mind for us all. There are plenty of activities every day, but no pressure is put on residents to attend. Mum is always asked and she picks and chooses what she does. She has already made good friends there. I try to go as regular as I can and the staff are always happy to sit down with me and discuss how she has been since my last visit.

Reply from Sherlyn Rowland, Home Manager at Fairmile Grange

Thank you for your kind comments. It is our pleasure to look after your mum and we are pleased to hear that she has now made Fairmile Grange her home. We value all feedback and your review will be gratefully received by the team. Kind regards

Overall the care my wife is receiving is very good and she seems to be settled living in Fairmile Grange. There have been times when she has been left either without a drink or very little drink when I have visited, this needs to improve.

Reply from Sherlyn Rowland, Home Manager at Fairmile Grange

Thank you for your valuable feedback, which helps us to continually make improvements where necessary to improve the service that we provide to residents. I would like to provide some reassurance on your comment about drinks - staff check residents regularly to ensure they have sufficient drinks. Residents who are fluids-challenged have fluid intake charts in place for staff to monitor their intake. Staff ensure all our residents have a call bell at reach for them to summon help if needed, and all residents are checked regularly to ensure their safety, comfort, and well-being. However, if you have any concerns about the care of your loved one, my door is always open. Please come and find me anytime, or alternatively, you can make an appointment through reception, and I would be more than happy to discuss, and hopefully alleviate, any worries that you might have.

I had not visited for about six months. On the day of my arrival, I found the en-suite in a state of disarray. There was equipment out of place and it didn't look clean. When I visited the next day it was much better. There is no toilet seat and all the curtains are hanging off the rail. Some maintenance
is definitely needed. Mum also had stale food left on her clothes.

Reply from Sherlyn Rowland, Home Manager at Fairmile Grange

Thank you for your review. We take all feedback very seriously as it helps us to continually make improvements and ensure that our residents receive the best care and level of service. We were shocked to read that you found a toilet seat was missing, and if this remains the case, we agree that it is not acceptable. As such, we have asked our housekeeping team to double-check every room’s ensuite and curtains to ensure that any issues have already been rectified. If an aspect needs attention, it will be reported immediately to the maintenance manager to make certain that every room is up to standard. Thank you again for your valuable feedback.

Mum was very poorly when she arrived at Fairmile. It was a very difficult time for the family. Mum has been cared for so well and her capacity has improved so much that I am amazed. Mum is treated with respect and the nursing staff and the wellbeing ladies regularly go out of their way to take Mum out
on trips. Her appetite has returned, but when it was poor, one lovely staff member, in particular, shared her takeaway in order to get Mum eating. 10/10.

Fairmile Grange is an excellent home with specialist dementia, nursing and general residential care. The home is very well maintained and managed with very friendly and competent staff. The rooms are all ensuite and kept spotlessly clean. The entertainment and activities provided to the residents is
very inclusive, creative and stimulating by a committed group of staff.

We would like to say thank you to the Manager and all the staff for providing such a lovely birthday 'party' for our parents and their two sons-in-law. It meant such a lot to us as a family, to share our celebrations with mum and dad. The Clinical Lead went to so much trouble to make us all feel special.

We have been very happy with the care our mother receives at Fairmile Grange Care Home, she is comfortable and has the opportunity to take part in lots of activities and chat to other residents and staff. As she has become less able, staff have reacted and used different approaches to care for her.

From the moment you step through the doors, you feel at home. Fairmile is a place of warmth, care and expertise. My father is happy and very settled there. He enjoys the many activities and the company of the other residents. The staff are professional and friendly. The residence is very clean and fresh,
light and airy. Fairmile is a lovely environment where each individual has their own needs catered for. It’s a most uplifting place.

My Mum is 94 and has dementia. She says she’s happy living at Fairmile Grange and likes living there. She says she has a lovely room, her own (modern) bathroom. Lovely (plenty of) food, kind and helpful staff and some lovely residents. She adds that there is always something going on in the way of entertainment,
which you can get involved with, or not as you want. There’s no pressure. How thrilled we are to hear this - her happiness and well being are our ultimate aim.
As Mum had previously lived in a non dementia specialist home, we are thrilled with Fairmile Grange. I had been worried about her living in a ‘locked’ home but we needn't have been. Built only a few years ago it has been so well designed with everything she might need. I find the staff responsive, caring, knowledgeable and very kind to Mum. The home is very clean, and the food is of a good standard.

I was so excited when my Nan left the hospital to go to this lovely looking local care home. Unfortunately, this excitement was short-lived when I arrived on my first visit as I was made to feel most unwelcome.
This should have been a red flag in itself but obviously, the care in the home is not about
me, it was about my nan.
During my visits I often found my nan’s room unclean, when we rang the bell it always took over ten minutes for staff to arrive. When staff arrived, some were rude and impatient. There was a handful of staff who were helpful but these people can’t work all the time! During her time there my Nan developed a severe fear of being left alone and we think this was because the wing she was on did not receive regular visits from staff. It is a shame because the home is nicely decorated and some aspects of the care are very good (activities - but my Nan was not able-bodied enough to take part). Check out your home thoroughly before you place a relative in there!

Reply from Mike Lyons, Managing Director at Fairmile Grange

Many thanks for your feedback relating to the care of your Grandmother at Fairmile Grange Care Home. All of the feedback that we receive is extremely important to us and helps us to improve our service and care standards. I’d like to reassure you that we do take your concerns very seriously, and I am investigating them all with the Care Home Team. I will ensure that where needed, the required improvements are made with immediate effect. Our aim is to always deliver person-centred care, and if we have delivered less than this we sincerely apologise. As always, I would be more than happy to meet up with you or take a call to discuss your points in more detail.

My mum has been a resident at Fairmile Grange since October 2018.
Fairmile Grange is a warm, welcoming and friendly environment with a team of hardworking, helpful and happy staff. My mum has settled into her new home and loves her bright and airy en-suite room with patio access. All the staff, from
nursing to the catering team, from the reception staff to housekeeping, all are like great friends to Mum and indeed it’s an extension to our own family. Nothing is too much trouble and the staff all work incredibly hard to maintain a high level of care for Mum. The well-being team provide a wonderful selection of varied activities and additional support to Mum, especially during the times when we are unable to visit, which has been a huge comfort to my mum, and to us. It was a difficult decision for Mum to move into residential care but one neither Mum nor our family regret because we can see how happy, safe and well she is in her new home.

I would highly recommend the Fairmile Grange. Both my parents were residents during this year, my Dad for 8 weeks and mum sadly for only 6 days, where they both sadly passed away. As soon as you walk through the door, you feel warmth, care and compassion. The home is spotlessly clean, the rooms are
beautiful and the food is amazing. The care both mum and dad received was exceptional, nothing was too much trouble for anyone. Each and every member of staff is caring, friendly, compassionate and they are always smiling!
Thank you so much from all the family for looking after mum and dad so well. We will never forget you.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.853)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.853) out of 10 for Fairmile Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.553 for Fairmile Grange is calculated as follows: ( (62 Excellents x 5) + (23 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 94 Ratings = 4.553

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.3 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Fairmile Grange is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 80 registered maximum number of service users is 16. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 16 = 0.5

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
