My brother came to Great Oaks in December 2018 and seems very happy here. Despite his condition deteriorating and his illness/condition is undiagnosed, the treatment seems to be considerate. The staff appear to be kind and my brother appears to be relaxed with them.

Reply from Amy Grohmann, Marketing Manager at Great Oaks Care Home

Thank you for your review. It's lovely to hear that your brother has settled into our Great Oaks Care Home. If there is anything else you think our team can do to make your brothers stay with us more comfortable, please do let the Home Manager know. Thank you again.

The first impression you have as soon as you walk in the door is of a lovely modern, clean building. Then you see the staff, and without exception, everyone smiles and speaks to you. There is a very friendly atmosphere, and our relative is treated with care and consideration and also, a sense of humour which she enjoys.

The only complaint we have, every time we visit we have informed staff that our friend will only eat plain food. No sauce, only veg she will eat is carrots. Even though she is on soft food now, meals are still brought in which she cannot eat.

My sister was transferred to this nursing home from the hospital. The care and attention given to her and the family has been outstanding. Nothing is too much trouble, and the staff pay equal attention to her husband and his welfare.

Although dad was only at Great Oaks for a week and a half before he died, I felt his last days were full of care, kindness and respect. The staff were all very helpful and very caring toward both dad and our family. Nothing was too much trouble for them. I can't thank them enough for making his last days the best that they could possibly be.

Reception staff brilliant. Care staff extra brilliant.

Care staff are extra busy at weekends and seem to be short-staffed at this time, in my opinion.

Reply from Sara Muslin, Home Manager at Great Oaks Care Home

We are very pleased to hear such positive comments about our staff teams, thank you. We are sorry that you have felt the home was short-staffed at weekends. It is a requirement for all of our teams to cover weekends and we recruit considerably over the basic requirement to ensure we have cover. However, we will look into your concerns as a matter of urgency.

July 2019 was the time I had to find a care home for my brother. Our first port of call was to Great Oaks care Home who had vacant rooms available at this time. From the time of our first meeting with their manager, we had excellent help and guidance in arranging a room at Great Oaks.

Based on the first four weeks in residence I can only confirm our satisfaction with all aspects of care. Most importantly my brother is happy and comfortable with is treatment and care.

The care my mum received was amazing, all the staff went beyond to give mum and the family the reassurance that we made the right decision placing her in to care for the few final months of her life. A very special place with the best staff. Left with fond memories.

Hi, I’m Helen Lacey, and I’m proud to be part of the team at Great Oaks Nursing Home, which provides dedicated nursing care. With many years of experience in the care sector, I’ve had the privilege of supporting residents with a wide range of needs, including those requiring complex nursing support. This experience has strengthened my commitment to delivering compassionate, high-quality, person-centred care.

I am particularly passionate about ensuring that every resident is treated with dignity, respect, and kindness. I believe that excellent care goes beyond meeting physical needs—it’s about truly getting to know each individual, understanding their preferences, and creating a supportive environment where they feel safe, valued, and at home.

As a leader, I take a hands-on and approachable approach, working closely with my team to ensure the highest standards of care are maintained. I am dedicated to supporting staff development, helping each team member grow in confidence and skill so they can provide the very best care possible. When staff feel supported and empowered, it reflects in the quality of care our residents receive.

At Great Oaks Nursing Home, we continually strive to enhance the daily lives of our residents, whether through meaningful activities, strong communication with families, or creating a warm and inclusive atmosphere. It is incredibly rewarding to see residents feel comfortable, engaged, and well cared for.

Above all, I am committed to ensuring that everyone—residents, their families, and our staff—feels welcomed, respected, and supported. Providing care is not just a profession for me; it is a vocation, and I am proud to make a positive difference every day.
