This care home is an amazing place full of amazing dedicated staff.
They looked after my mum for nearly two years and they all did a wonderful job.
Mum was so happy here and as a family, we cannot praise every staff member enough.
From the managers to the cleaning staff, they all looked after mum so well.
The staff were always covid compliant and made sure visitors wore the correct PPE. This gave us assurance that the residents, staff and visitors were being kept as safe as possible.
Sadly mum passed away recently and it was so touching that ALL the staff gave my mum a guard of honour as she left Nelson Lodge for the last time.
I would recommend this care home.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to mum’s Nelson Lodge family.

My nan has been a resident here for over two years. The care staff are nothing short of exceptional - it's amazing to see how kind they are to her when we visit, but also when we aren't there (she's a regular feature on the newsletter and Facebook page!). The home itself is lovely too - clean and well kept. I really can't think higher of Nelson Lodge - the staff are really fantastic.

As a family, we were very anxious about Dad going into a home whilst COVID restrictions were still in place. However, staff at Nelson Lodge settled Dad into their home during the November lockdown with all the care and compassion we could have asked for. The staff keep the family updated and it is never too much trouble whenever we call to see how Dad is. We have been able to stay in contact with Dad through video calls as often as we like and this certainly helped me to feel that we are still a family. The staff have all been very helpful during these calls as Dad often struggles with the new technology. All the staff are very friendly to Dad and the atmosphere within the home is of a calm, relaxed homely feel. Staff join in the organised themed days making them fun for the residents and makes me feel Dad is not missing out but actually gaining through being in such a happy environment. The manager, as well as all staff, is very approachable should you have any questions or concerns.

My dad went in for emergency respite care on New Years Eve following a series of falls and subsequent decreasing mobility. He ended up staying for a month and the transformation in him has been amazing!. He has put on weight and the improvement in his mobility is remarkable. In his own words 'you couldn’t fault the food, especially the puddings!'. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend 5*.

The dedicated team at Nelson Lodge are true professionals with compassion. They are providing the quality of life my mother deserves and she is thriving on it. She now looks better than she did several years ago (not bad since she's over 90 with a neurodegenerative disease) and she's happy and content. She needs 24/7 attention which she gets from the great members of staff who treat all the residents like their own family (or better). The environment is functional, always clean and homely enough. The food is excellent (I've sampled it a few times) and visiting was always welcome, any time of the day (before the current restrictions). Mum was/is in the best place especially during these difficult times, as I know the staff went above and beyond (where they could) Government guidelines.

Mum moved into Nelson Lodge in October 2018. At that time, she was extremely frail. Within a few weeks, she was getting back to her usual self.

Staff are very kind and attentive, know all residents names. Mum was put on a soft food diet, which is presented in many different ways. Being served smaller portions has been the success to her eating. There can be very few places better than Nelson Lodge.

After spending five weeks in hospital I asked if Nelson Lodge could put my Mum up so she could have a couple of weeks respite. Within a week Mum seemed so much better and now has become a permanent resident.
A few months later and Mum looks like Mum again and this is all down to the fantastic staff that look after and care for her, it is peace of mind for myself and my brother knowing that she is warm, fed, watered and above all... safe.
Nelson Lodge is clean and beautifully decorated and the reception area is bright and welcoming.
I’m so glad my Mum has decided to stay here, it’s also very convenient for me and my brother to visit.

The change in our mum is all down to the staff at Nelson Lodge and I can’t thank them enough.

My grannie has been at Nelson Lodge for a while now. The staff are always friendly and helpful when I have been in to see her. Now we cannot visit they have been great at setting up calls and FaceTime so we can still be in contact. Nothing is too much trouble. The home is always clean and my grannie's room is too. She seems really happy there and well looked after, well fed and cared for. I would highly recommend this home to anyone. Keep up the amazing work team.

Excellent Care Home. We moved my Uncle here in October and were initially struck with how caring and capable all the staff are. The Manager, his deputy and all the staff work well as a team to ensure residents are happy, comfortable and safe. The actual home is beautiful as are the bedrooms and communal areas which are kept clean, tidy and it smells fresh. On site, they have hairdressers and soon will have a shop and cinema. The Chiropodist visits and the staff regularly organise events and activities which residents are encouraged, but never forced, to take part in. The staff all seem genuinely happy and are certainly professional, friendly, helpful and efficient.

It can be a worrying time when your loved one needs to go into a care home but from the first visit to date, we have been consistently impressed with the high standards of care and feel my uncle is in a safe and lovely home, surrounded by excellent staff. We can visit as often as we like which is great.

The scores given are based on a very limited experience of Nelson Lodge, as we supported and visited a friend recently settled.

Our initial impression, however, is very positive and is reinforced by how settled and happy our friend is after only a couple of months, having moved here from her home of 50 years.

We hoped that this stay would lead to a more permanent arrangement, but she wasn't that impressed.
She should have stayed in a room on the ground floor, but they couldn't remove the broken bed.
So she was upstairs with hardly anyone passing by or attending.
Meals were good one day and disgusting the next.
No attempt at PR was made by management.
Laundry went missing.

The building, the rooms were excellent, but not enough staff.

My experience is as the daughter of residents. Both my parents went there to live but had very different needs. Unfortunately, my father died at the end of 2017. The home has supported my mother through this very sad time. Mum is frail and extremely anxious, she needs constant encouragement to do what she is able to do for herself and the reassurance that there is always someone on hand should she need it is invaluable. We find the staff (not only the carers) are kind, sympathetic and considerate.

As a family member I feel welcome at any time and quite 'at home' when I visit. It's easy to pop in for a chat, a cup of tea and from time to time stay and enjoy a meal, or join in an organised activity.

The management encourages feedback, opinions and ideas and holds meetings to exchange information. If I have any questions or concerns I have no qualms about approaching staff as they always do their best to address any issues.

Nelson Lodge provides excellent care. The staff are friendly, helpful and always put the residents needs foremost. The food is freshly worked and variable, very much enjoyed by the residents. Possibly my only concern is that the residents, I feel, need a little more motivation to move around.

Sometimes it is hard to get them up but once they get motivated, they usually enjoy some exercise.

I have worked in both the charity and care sectors for over 30 years. My experience includes 15 years with MENCAP as a Registered Home Manager. I then joined Leonard Cheshire as a Quality Manager.

I love the care sector, and I am very passionate about care and its delivery. I have lived in St Neots for over 20 years, and I see strengthening the relationships Nelson Lodge has with their local community as a vital part of my new role. I’m keen to support our residents’ connections with our local community. I’m passionate about introducing students and young people into the care profession, where I started a programme for Health and Social Care undergraduates at a local college.

In my spare time, I enjoy touring the UK with my much-loved caravan and spending time with my family and my gorgeous Granddaughter.
