Whilst the facility itself can be termed "state of the art" due to rooms, equipment and furnishing etc, the day-to-day running is somewhat haphazard. This is due, primarily, to a lack of basic communication, hampered by high rated of staff turnover and the persistent use of agency staff. There's genuine
good care and goodwill, but a team that does not often work together lacks both commitment and a shared vision. Had we know this from the beginning, our relative would have been placed elsewhere.
Reply from Somerset Care, Somerset Care at Stockmoor LodgeThank you for taking the time to leave a review for Stockmoor Lodge, and for your positive feedback about the home's facilities. We are sorry to hear that you have not felt fully informed about new members of the team who have joined Stockmoor Lodge during the pandemic, and hope that you will take up our invitation to meet to discuss this further should you wish to. As Covid-19 restrictions begin to ease, we look forward to being able to have more in-person contact with the relatives and friends of those in our care and to help them to feel part of the Stockmoor Lodge community once more.

There are a couple of lovely staff members.
Hard to name as no one has visible name badges on which is not ideal for residents or visitors. Had to ask for pain relief for my Grandad several times, including the day he passed away as the nurse ‘assured’ me he wasn’t in any pain. Not sure how they knew
that as he couldn’t communicate by this point and passed away a few hours later. The day we went to collect his belongings from his room, we find workmen/contractors in his room fixing his door! No one should have been in his room doing any adjustments three days after his passing. No compassion shown by the person who let us in at reception the day we arrived to collect Grandads belongings either, just the final insult to a catalogue of incidents we have had over the course of his stay there.
Reply from Somerset Care, Somerset Care at Stockmoor LodgeDear Kimberley,
Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback for Stockmoor Lodge. We are very sorry to read the concerns you have expressed in your review, and would welcome the opportunity to discuss these with you. The wellbeing of our residents and their loved ones is of paramount importance to us, and we would not wish anyone to have the experience that you have described. We appreciate that losing a loved one is a very distressing time that you may not wish to revisit, however, we invite you to contact the team at Stockmoor Lodge to discuss your concerns should you feel able to do so.
Best regards.

Mum was a resident in Stockmoor Lodge for just under 4-years. Nursing care was needed throughout. When identifying a home for Mum, it was important to find an environment that genuinely respected everyone - residents, relations and staff. Stockmoor was our choice, and it lived up to this expectation.
Mum was extremely well cared for. Having been a nurse herself, she was fully aware of what good care looked like in practice, and at almost every visit to see her, her parting comment would be “they look after me very well here”. Without exception, all the staff - whatever their roles - were friendly and approachable. Throughout her stay, we had peace of mind that Mum was comfortable, safe and in an environment that was spotless. Her wishes were always respected and carried out, and we were regularly kept informed regarding her health. This past year had been a challenging time because of Covid. Thank you, everyone, for coping so incredibly well.

We built a lovely rapport with the staff, who treated my aunt as a VIP. They gave her all the nursing care and support that we could have wished, then during the difficult lockdown year, gave her friendship and became her surrogate family. Through their constant communication, we had complete faith
and trust that my aunt was cared for as well as I would have cared for her.

My dear friend and ex-partner of 28 years joined the residence at your nursing home today. We were greeted with warmth, compassion, kindness and humour. This was well received by my daughter and me, who are handing over the care of her father and my ex-partner as he prepares for end of life treatment.
Wonderful
welcoming staff, thank you so very much...

My mother was admitted to Stockmoor Lodge following a stroke in October during the lockdown, but the home worked hard to maintain contact and visiting. Mum was very happy with her room and the care she received. Sadly she had a further stroke in January, but was able to remain at Stockmoor where they
nursed her until she died. The end of life care given was excellent, and visits to her room were possible with lateral flow testing, and I was able to meet some of the staff caring for Mum. Thank you.

Mum went into Stockmoor during lockdown which has been a very testing time for her and the whole family.
She has settled in really well and always says she is being looked after fantastically well, she also comments on the staff being very kind and happy to help her with whatever problem she is having.
As
a family, we are more than happy with the way my mum is being looked after.

Nan has been at Stockmoor Lodge since January 2020. Once nan had settled in she really enjoyed all the activities on offer. Nan speaks highly of the care she is receiving and since lockdown, it's been really reassuring that nan is in good hands.
Nan loves her meal times. I've also found the staff really
helpful when I've phoned and great support.

Well designed new facility. Rooms are of a good size with en-suite wet room showers and are warm with good noise insulation and are fitted with mounts for bed hoists. Staffing levels are excellent with resident rarely being left when other residents are absent from the lounge areas. Attention is given
whenever requested by any staff, whatever their normal role giving the impression that your family members are in safe hands. Security is good with care/code controlled access and alarms on all ground floor doors to the outside areas.

My grandad received palliative care here for 2 months. As a family, we could not have asked for better care for him.
His room was large, bright and clean and we were able to hang pictures to make him feel at home. He started to enjoy his food more, having a choice of meals and plenty of them!
The
level of care from the nurses and carers was second to none, they really listened and cared for him and pre-empted issues before they arose. The difference within a week of him being there both physically and mentally was extraordinary considering the circumstances. He was truly happy there and loved everyone (although one lady was his clear favourite!) After a short stint in hospital he really wanted to go back to see his girls!
Everyone at the home was brilliant with the family too, informative and supportive. It was a weight off our shoulders knowing we could trust them all to do right by him.
I can't recommend this home enough. Thank you all for everything you did.

Overall my mother has settled very well. She is happy, very well cared for and content. Many of her named clothes have gone missing. Her room and bathroom are not always very clean. The suppers are usually sandwiches and soup which she finds very dull and poor value considering her fees. The staff are
very kind and caring towards my mother which is the most important thing. Issues raised with senior staff are usually dealt with.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.886)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.886) out of 10 for Stockmoor Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 38 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.886 for Stockmoor Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (400 Excellents x 5) + (43 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 447 Ratings = 4.886
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Stockmoor Lodge is based on 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 90 registered maximum number of service users is 18, which has been reached with 38 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
