During Dad's 10 months in Riverside, he was looked after with the greatest care and attention. The staff were kind and caring, always treating Dad with respect and following his wishes. Any concerns about his health were addressed promptly, and as a family we were always kept informed. The staff were always welcoming and friendly to family and visitors.

My opinion of Riverside Place has not changed since I came here 3 years ago, and soon found this was where I wanted to be. All the staff continue to be kind and helpful and never fail us in any way, and have become our friends and family. There are no rules or regulations and we are free to live and do as we please - similar to being at home but having friends and activities around you when you want them - and NO CHORES. Lovely rooms and a peaceful and well adapted garden. All is good.

Overall we have been more than happy with the care and compassion mum has received at Riverside. Due to her alzheimers she has good and bad days but we are confident she gets the support she needs. She is generally happy to be there and she absolutely adores the staff who make her feel safe and loved. There is room for improvement in certain areas but the positives far outweigh this.

My mother has been in Riverside Place for 18 months. She has dementia. I am generally pleased with her overall care and the facilities which are provided. There are a few small issues which arise from time to time. Food is consistently of a reasonable standard and entertainment staff work pretty hard with a variety of activities on offer. I do think it is over priced.

My mother moved into Riverside for three week's respite care with great trepidation. However from the moment we arrived she was made feel welcome, well looked after and safe. The staff really appear to work as a team and every concern my mother had was addressed.
My mother's room was well designed, comfortable and spotless. It opened onto well kept gardens.
Service at Riverside is extremely well thought through and thoroughly professional. The team genuinely cared for my mother's welfare.
Much to everyone in the family's surprise, my mother really enjoyed her time at Riverside, was sorry to leave and I am sure will return either for further respite care or as a resident.
Thank you to all the team at Riverside. You did a great job for my family,

I would highly recommend Riverside.

Mum chose to stay at Riverside for a weeks respite- she stayed for 3 weeks and was sad to leave- but home beckoned! I can't say enough good things about the staff who were lovely, cheerful and nothing was too much bother for them. Room with garden access was ideal and lovely to be able to access the garden.

My sister has been a resident since Oct 2019, she is well cared for with all her basic care needs met. She has been in bed for over 2 years but never had bedsores, which can be a problem for those bedridden. I consider this a basic indication that she is receiving good care. My sister always looks clean and her nighties changed regularly. The activities team arrange daily events for those able to attend; they have imagination spare! Always appropriate to ability.

Our dad was a resident at Riverside Place for 8 months. During his stay we were very happy with the care that he received, and all staff were kind, considerate and responsive to all our requests and to dad's needs. The environment was calm, clean and nicely decorated with a lovely welcoming reception including the bistro care where many activities take place. The entertainment staff were particularly kind including dad in as many activities as he could manage and the hospitality team arranged a lovely room for us to celebrate dad's birthday including a lovely homemade cake. The nursing team were approachable and compassionate to dad's needs. We would highly recommend this nursing home to anyone who is facing the difficult decision of having to find somewhere for their loved one.

Mum has settled in very well. She's hard to please, but often comments that the staff are lovely and any issues, they phone us straight away. A few months into moving in, she celebrated her 90th birthday at the home. The team provided wonderful food and service, at a reasonable cost, and nothing was too much trouble (e.g. bringing balloons and decorations in ahead of time). She will "remember it forever". Day-to-day care seems fantastic, and Mum looks and feels better. She's eating well, taking her medications properly, and taking part in activities. She wasn't doing any of these on her own. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Very happy so far.

Excellent care, friendly staff, good food, and nice environment. My Aunty was well cared for during her 4-week stay in respite care. I was so impressed. Riverside Place was recommended to me first by my hairdresser. From the beginning, it was very welcoming and felt/appeared more like a hotel than a care home. The carers, catering, and hospitality staff are so kind, caring, and "go the extra mile" to help - unfortunately, like everywhere else, they are understaffed and are not allocated enough time per resident. Luckily, I'm mobile and able to do things for myself but I hoped to get more assistance. Sadly, it's very expensive and I couldn't afford to stay any longer.

Excellent care home. We chose Riverside in July this year when my Mother required Respite care and are back again as she now is in poor health.
All staff at the home are responsive, empathetic, and professional. Nothing is too much trouble to arrange. The home itself is clean, and luxurious and caters to all needs.

The vibe is relaxed, friendly, and welcoming. I would certainly recommend the home to anyone whether it's for respite, nursing, or residential care.

Do not be fooled by the warm reception on entry and plush surroundings. It's the care and attention to detail that counts via the working staff. Many are excellent but let down by the few who shouldn't be there. The main problem is the lack of communication. For a few the Queen's/BBC English is not their first language. Therefore it is difficult to understand them and often they do not understand your requests. Also being woken up at 5.30 am each morning was a problem. Although informed not to call it did not get through when there was a change of staff. Bad communications again. Also, response to calls is often either non-existent or a great delay (e.g. 30 mins.) Are there enough staff?
Overall the care home could be first class but let down by a few. First-class payments with third-class service.

If considering Riverside Place, it's okay if the residents are able-bodied and generally care for themselves but be aware of limitations when more help is needed.

Meet the Team (1)

Alin Marcu
Alin MarcuJob Title:Home Manager

I joined Care UK in 2018 as a Team Leader. During that time, I developed a real passion for delivering high-quality care and supporting both residents and staff. I later achieved my PIN as a registered nurse, which was an important milestone in my career and allowed me to take on greater clinical responsibilities. Over the years, I progressed into leadership roles, and in 2024 I became Deputy Clinical Manager.

This role helped me strengthen my leadership skills, develop my understanding of operational and financial responsibilities, and gain valuable experience overseeing clinical standards and supporting teams. Through these experiences, I realised that becoming a Home Manager would allow me to make an even greater impact not only on the quality of care residents receive, but also on the culture and development of the whole team within the home.

I started as Home Manager at Riverside Place in February this year, and my first weeks have been very positive. I’ve spent time getting to know the residents, families and the team, which has been incredibly rewarding. The staff are passionate and dedicated, and there is a strong sense of community within the home. My focus so far has been on listening, understanding how the home operates, and working closely with the team to continue building a positive and supportive environment for both residents and colleagues.

What really stands out about Riverside Place is the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The team genuinely cares about the residents and takes pride in making the home feel like a true community. The relationships between residents, families and staff are very strong, and there is a real focus on providing personalised care that respects each resident’s preferences, dignity and independence.

My advice would be to visit the home, meet the team, and spend time experiencing the atmosphere. A good care home should feel welcoming, supportive and safe. It’s also important to ask questions and make sure you feel comfortable with the care being provided. The right home should not only meet clinical needs but also support residents’ wellbeing, independence and quality of life.
