There are many different enticing spaces to relax in – from the bistro and cinema on the ground floor, the quiet lounges dotted around the home to the rooftop orangery with balconies overlooking the river. The home understands that residents like to continue to look and feel their best, so the hair salon is open regularly for beauty treatments and pamper sessions.
Mealtimes are an important part of daily life and they know eating well and the social experience of dining are key to health and wellbeing. The home's chefs select a different menu each day, creating lots of home-cooked dishes with fresh ingredients to choose from. Using their in-depth knowledge of nutrition, they cater for any special diets and needs.

Do not be fooled by the warm reception on entry and plush surroundings. It's the care and attention to detail that counts via the working staff. We were told if she wanted a permanent place there they would accommodate her. We were told how easy she was to care for etc. It...
Take care when placing your relatives. Our mother was placed at Riverside for one week of respite care. The reports of her stay were glowing from the Managers and staff. We were told if she wanted a permanent place there they would accommodate her. We were told how easy she was to care for etc. It has since transpired that they have refused her a place as she is too loud due to her deafness. They knew this from her assessment and we explained that she had lost her hearing aids, and we would be getting replacements. To discriminate against an elderly person in this way is shocking. So long as they sit and are quiet they will be fine! In the words of the Managers at Riverside, 'You have to understand that they could not afford to get any complaints' We retract our previous review of 21 June as it is obvious that they do not mind taking your money and will push you for a good review, but that's where the 'care' ends. We have lodged a formal complaint with Aria.

I have spent 4 weeks in Riverside Place following a major hip surgery. The chair in my room was much too low. It was changed straight away and with a booster cushion just meeting the height requirement for my condition, I would recommend higher seat chairs to benefit the mostly elderly residents.

Selecting a rating for Riverside is difficult because whilst the facilities are excellent and the regular staff very kind and caring the overall management of the home and communication with is appalling. There have been 3 managers in the last 15 months which doesn’t help with continuity....
If your relative cannot communicate independently this is probably not the right place for them.

My Dad was at Riverside for two months receiving palliative care. My impression was that, if you are mobile and able to care for yourself but it’s just too much to be at home then it’s a great place. The shared spaces and the garden are lovely. Food is good and lots of activities with the opportunity to socialise. We saw some absolutely wonderful caring members of staff. It wasn’t consistent. The palliative care was very very poor. Basic routines for respect and dignity are not followed daily (teeth cleaning/shaving). Few and sporadic checks from the carers and nurses on my Dad, and when they did check on him it was very brusque and for specific tasks such as changing his pad. Whilst feeding him they hadn’t noticed his reduced ability to swallow or made any changes to his diet. Nurses are very hard to find to check on how things have been or changes in the day. The lovely environment isn’t everything - the quality of care and empathy is so much more important.

I joined Care UK in 2018 as a Team Leader. During that time, I developed a real passion for delivering high-quality care and supporting both residents and staff. I later achieved my PIN as a registered nurse, which was an important milestone in my career and allowed me to take on greater clinical responsibilities. Over the years, I progressed into leadership roles, and in 2024 I became Deputy Clinical Manager.
This role helped me strengthen my leadership skills, develop my understanding of operational and financial responsibilities, and gain valuable experience overseeing clinical standards and supporting teams. Through these experiences, I realised that becoming a Home Manager would allow me to make an even greater impact not only on the quality of care residents receive, but also on the culture and development of the whole team within the home.
I started as Home Manager at Riverside Place in February this year, and my first weeks have been very positive. I’ve spent time getting to know the residents, families and the team, which has been incredibly rewarding. The staff are passionate and dedicated, and there is a strong sense of community within the home. My focus so far has been on listening, understanding how the home operates, and working closely with the team to continue building a positive and supportive environment for both residents and colleagues.
What really stands out about Riverside Place is the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The team genuinely cares about the residents and takes pride in making the home feel like a true community. The relationships between residents, families and staff are very strong, and there is a real focus on providing personalised care that respects each resident’s preferences, dignity and independence.
My advice would be to visit the home, meet the team, and spend time experiencing the atmosphere. A good care home should feel welcoming, supportive and safe. It’s also important to ask questions and make sure you feel comfortable with the care being provided. The right home should not only meet clinical needs but also support residents’ wellbeing, independence and quality of life.
