The care my brother-in-law received at Oakview Lodge was exceptional from start to finish.
His preferences were taken into account and consistently respected.
Every member of staff was welcoming and helpful to all of us who visited.
The manager and clinical lead, in particular, were readily available
to answer questions and offer support.
As a family, we felt that our views were taken into consideration and acted upon appropriately, even in distressing circumstances.
There is a genuine feeling of welcome and calm throughout the building, which is very reassuring to residents and visitors alike.
There is a high level of cleanliness in all areas, and patients receive excellent personal care.
I would not hesitate to recommend Oakview Lodge to anybody looking for a well-run, caring and welcoming place for themselves or a loved one.

Visited my sister recently. Found no hairdresser, her hair was very long, nails long, teeth looked not cleaned. Twice managed to get her to understand, brain working, but only can say yes/no that she was hungry - went and asked for something, got yoghurt and pot custard, looked very unkept. I know one
member had left short staff due to regulations - that person kept it going, spot on. Sorry to say has gone down in standard. Staff do their best, but £1,500, should be better care. I asked her as she had been a matron, was she satisfied with her care, she shook her head and said no. Sorry, but I am only saying my true thoughts. I know it is very hard at the moment. They are doing their best, but think this is not good enough. Staff helpful and nice.

My mum, who has dementia, has just moved to Oakview. The staff have been excellent in helping her adjust to a new environment and learning what her needs are. Booking visits has been smooth and very well organised when we attended.

The staff are amazing.
The home manager is quick to respond. The staff juggle all sorts of tasks with style. They are charming and helpful and are exceptionally kind.
My mother is as happy at Oakview Lodge as anyone separate from their family with dementia could be. I am confident she is safe.
Improvements
would be:
Introduction of the screen visiting area should have been faster as there was the ideal room - private dining room. This delay meant my sister and I did not have face to face contact with our father (also at Oakview Lodge until his death in December 2020) as we should have. That leaves unnecessary pain and for the cost of Oakview Lodge, the service should be as good as other care homes.
Parking can be difficult e.g. Friday 7th May we could not park nearby. One area blocked by bags of sand that have been there for almost two years.
Planting in gardens - neat and green but some colour is needed. A few dozen daffs and tulips are cheap and more popular with that age range than an expensive marketing giraffe by the roadside.

My mum has been a resident at Oakview Lodge since October 2018; it's a lovely, modern, friendly, happy home.
I have always found all staff and management approachable dealing with any requests as needed, very caring, always trying to make each day the best it can be.
This last year has been such a
difficult one, for both staff and residents, we look forward to life getting back to normal now.

My mother has been in Oakview during both the lockdown periods, and the family have been so grateful for the care and attention she has received, especially as we were unable to visit until recently. The home arranged video calls so we could see that she was being well looked after, and it made her
feel in touch with her family. We are contacted by the nursing staff if there are any problems with my mother's health, and the management has kept us fully informed of all the updates because of the Covid regulations.
The rooms are always clean and tidy and beautifully decorated, and the staff are very caring both to Mum as a resident and to us as a family.

When my mum came to Oakview Lodge, she was in a bad way after very poor care in another home. The home manager took her in, and the change was dramatic, and I can never thank her enough for the change in my mum. The staff are wonderful and very helpful. I can't praise the home enough for their care
of my mum.

My dad spent 9 months at Oakview Lodge Care and Nursing Home. His medical condition had deteriorated enough that he needed full-time care, he was located a room on the nursing floor, his room was a good size with ensuite facilities and was finished to a high standard. The whole care home is beautifully
decorated, well maintained and very clean.
The home provides various activities every day throughout the week for all tastes but my dad particularly enjoyed the quizzes in the afternoons. The staff are very friendly, caring and professional and always helpful, they kept us fully informed of my father's health, we cannot praise them enough. My wife and I are very happy that his last days were in this wonderful home cared for by lovely people. We would highly recommend this care home.

My Dad spent 7 months at Oakview Lodge. He became poorly from a pre-existing health condition during the lockdown. As visiting was not allowed we kept in touch by video and the staff were helpful with that when Dad was unsure. Most of the staff were compassionate and caring and Dad had one or two favourites.
Sometimes the staffing levels seemed insufficient, maybe due to the Coronavirus, or maybe due to difficulties with recruitment. As he deteriorated he was kept comfortable and the Care was very good and we were confident Dad was in good hands.

There are several points to be made.
Unfortunately, the receptionist had not been briefed about our arrival on Saturday 28th October. Eventually, we were conducted to my husband's room but it took some time before he was properly greeted.
Secondly, my husband found nocturnal treatment somewhat unsatisfactory
and insensitive on occasions.
It was a surprise to both of us that some senior staff had not been properly trained in the fitting of conveens.
Finally, on a positive note, my husband was pleased that his weekly French class could be accommodated in "The Pub". My husband joins his fellow members and the teacher in thanking the staff for organising this.

My father-in-law spent his last 20 months in Oakview Lodge and I just cannot recommend this care home highly enough. The staff go above and beyond the call of duty on a daily basis and were caring in the extreme. It is well managed and staffed with caring people, who treat the residents with compassion
and dignity. The home is always very clean and has a welcoming environment. The carers always have a smile and time for the individuals. Regular activities for the residents are organised daily everyone is supported and encouraged to join in. My father-in-law enjoyed the quizzes, gardening, bingo, baking cakes and eating them. I would have no hesitation in entrusting any of my relatives to their tender care.

Mum first came to Oakview Lodge for respite in January and is now a permanent resident. I am delighted with the care and support she has received and have every confidence in the staff, who are kind, professional and friendly and treat all the residents with dignity. All mum's visitors are made welcome
when they pop in; we bring my dad to visit several times a week. Nothing is too much trouble; I'm kept updated about mum and we can see the improvement in her in this beautiful, clean home with modern, attractive furnishings and decoration. (Wait 'til you see the gorgeous chairs and sofas in the corridors!) Tasty meals with a glass of wine if she chooses, a café area where she can sit and read the newspaper, and new friends to chat and laugh with. The pampering means her hair is regularly and expertly styled, nails polished and she has even put on some weight!

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.549)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.549) out of 10 for Oakview Lodge Care & Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 25 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.549 for Oakview Lodge Care & Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (205 Excellents x 5) + (52 Goods x 4) + (15 Satisfactorys x 3) + (9 Poors x 2) + (5 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 286 Ratings = 4.549
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Oakview Lodge Care & Nursing Home is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 70 registered maximum number of service users is 14, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
