Oakview Lodge Nursing Home is a brand new care home in Welwyn Garden City, on the site of the old Queen Elizabeth II hospital, providing residential care in luxury surroundings.

The home has a warm, family atmosphere with a highly trained and caring staff team. Staff get to know residents and their families personally to provide personalised care taking into account residents' individual needs and preferences.

The nursing home has 64 large en-suite bedrooms, decorated to a very high standard.

Oakview Lodge Nursing Home has its own hair salon, café/bistro, cinema room, and numerous lounges and communal areas. Residents are encouraged to enjoy hobbies and interests and a wide range of meaningful activities are available on a daily basis, from light exercise, crafts, gardening and trips out.

Oakview Lodge has built close links with the local community and often hosts events and meetings to encourage residents to maintain the links with local groups. Visitors are welcome at any time.

Oakview Lodge has its own chef who works closely with residents and the care team to develop a weekly menu with a wide range of nutritious food suited to individual dietary requirements. The front of house team is on hand to provide drinks and refreshments throughout the day.

When my mother came in for a few weeks, she was feeling very unsettled and sorry for herself. We were very concerned about leaving her but the staff were welcoming and kind. By the end of her stay, she was asking when she could come back for another holiday.

I am extremely satisfied with the care that our friend has received since he came here in February 2018.
He settled in beautifully. The staff respect him and treat him well. He does not socialize well but there are various activities arranged for the residents to enjoy and take part in.

My father has been in the home for 3 months and he is very settled. The staff has been great, really looking after him and engaging him in activities, he is in the best location for him and it's great to see.

The home is lovely, the staff and management are lovely and helpful, the home is very welcoming and clean. Love the themed rooms, cinemas, coffee shop, pub, gym more like living in a 5-star hotel.

I visited the home with my husband looking for respite care for my mother-in-law. The welcome from the manager was very relaxing and we were made to feel at home. The home was clean and the residents and staff looked very happy. The manager and deputy put us at ease and were able to answer our questions.

The thing that impresses me the most is the activities and entertainment that is provided most days. The thought that goes into these days is beautiful and works on all sorts of levels. Most of all is the smiles it put on most of the resident's faces.

It's a beautiful and extremely welcoming care home. I originally never thought I would want my grandmother to go to a care home, and had visited others and they had always been very dark and depressing, and felt very clinical and not at all somewhere I would want to stay! This is totally different;
there are beautiful communal spaces, with additional themed areas such as the tea room, cinema, pub, as well as areas in each corridor which have all been well thought out. The staff are incredibly friendly and great fun, and there are a continuous range of activities across the week for the residents - from planting in the garden, indoor bowls, crafts, and more. It's actually a pleasure to come and visit, and I feel very confident my grandmother is looked after and well loved here.

The staff are absolutely fantastic, nothing is too much trouble. They are extremely friendly and take the time to get to know the people they care for. I have been very impressed. Moving to a care home was a big change for my Gran and they have helped to support her with this transition.

Brilliant place. If I could live here myself I would...not old enough yet! What a place. Every whim and wish is cared for. There is a cinema, pub, spa room, play area for kids of all ages, that includes me. They have boggle! what can I say. A wonderful place with very attentive staff. Food I understand
is also very good! One thing they need is a Piano! There are events that go on all the time. Just need to join in. Rooms are very good, and the whole place is decorated very tastefully.
I would say even better than a first class hotel! Oh and there is a small gym too.

Putting my mother in a care home was always a last resort as other care homes I had visited seemed depressing places where the residents were just waiting to die. However, when I went to Oakview Lodge, expecting it to be like that, I found somewhere that was the opposite - bright, cheerful, happy, clean
with wonderful facilities. I was completely blown away and felt it was definitely a place I would be happy for my mother to live in. Since she moved in nearly two weeks ago, I have not been disappointed. She can have a glass of wine with her meals (something she always enjoyed), have her hair done, watch the TV in the comfortable lounge, whilst being served cups of tea and delicious cakes (also available to visitors!). There are activities for those who wish to participate and when the weather was warm last week, my mother was able to go out in the garden and have ice cream and sherry! The staff are lovely and caring - if anyone looks a bit sad or lonely they are soon cheered up.

Oakview Lodge is not at all what I expected from a care home. We had always said that there was no way my grandmother would go into a home, but this place is amazing. It's beautiful, everything is new, it's more like a luxury hotel! Lounges with smart modern furniture, dining tables with crisp white
tablecloths and polished silverware, and so many facilities - hair and nail salon, cinema, pub, massage spa, family games room, tea room... it's wonderful! There are lots of thoughtful details, like old photos of the local area on the walls etc.
The staff have been very accommodating to my grandmother's needs and preferences, to make her feel as comfortable and "at home" as possible. I have visited several times since she moved in last week and everyone is always friendly and welcoming.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to anyone considering a care home for their loved one.
