Mom has been made to feel really welcome here from day one. All the staff, including non-care staff, are friendly and welcoming, with no request too much trouble.

We take comfort from knowing that mom is safe and well cared for. She enjoys the various activities that are on offer but doesn't feel pressured to take part if she doesn't wish to. Would highly recommend the home to others in our position.

Generally, I think Mercia Grange is an excellent care home. It has more of a feel of a hotel to it. Spotlessly clean, the dining room like a restaurant with a pleasant ambience. Staff are caring, their job is not always easy as different residents have very different needs.

My 93-year-old mother has been here since June. I haven't been able to visit her for 9 weeks. When I arrived, mum greeted me, she looked so well and is so happy and settled and so well looked after.

It is a real joy to visit her.

So happy with the care my grandad received at Mercia Grange, the staff were always friendly, helpful, kind, thoughtful and nothing was too much trouble for my grandad or me and my family. When we left my grandad in the care of staff I always felt reassured that he would be well cared for. Thank you all so much.

I have been visiting Mercia Grange once a week for the past 5 weeks. I initially attended one of their monthly community coffee mornings with my dog and was immediately welcomed and made to feel at ease. I was given an informative chat about the care home and its services and given a guided tour. I was amazed at how well designed the building and amenities were, whilst maintaining a relaxed welcoming environment.

I have since become a volunteer providing dog therapy for the residents through my pet cockapoo. All the staff I have met have been professional, courteous and caring. I have felt supported and encouraged by the staff who always express gratitude for our time and efforts.

We look forward to our visits and thoroughly enjoy meeting the residents and relatives and getting to know them in recent weeks. I have personally found the experience both rewarding and enjoyable and we intend to continue volunteering at Mercia Grange and contributing to resident and care home activities.

Mum went into Mercia Grange after nearly 4 weeks in hospital following which, in addition to physical ailments, she was suffering from extreme anxiety. The process to welcome her on respite was straightforward and the quality and level of care she has received has been first class. She is now looking and sounding the best she has for the last couple of years. All of this was achieved over a 2 week period. She has stayed longer due to Dad also being taken ill and we are now looking at long-term care at Mercia Grange. The care, diligence and attention has been exemplary, from management down.

We needed urgent care for Mum following a period in hospital and Mercia Grange had newly opened. We were told about the home by our district nurse and I visited the same day (a Friday). By Monday evening Mum was resident and comfortable. So comfortable and cared for that she decided to stay! I can now look forward to visiting her again; feels like I have got my mum back!

I have never felt more welcomed and looked after on walking through doors, care/admin staff are fantastic - always ready to help in a professional kind way. The process of the home itself is very straightforward and every little detail is exchanged. My friend is looked after to no end and every member of staff makes them feel at home as best they can. The activities are also great for the residents and the facilities, in general, are of such a wonderful standard.

My Father in Law was the first resident at Mercia Grange. In fact, they opened a few days earlier to accommodate him when he was released early from hospital. Since then they have cared for him brilliantly and he has settled in very well. The staff are all, without exception, both caring and professional. When the family visit they make us all feel very welcome and they address any worries we have immediately. I couldn't be more pleased and am so grateful that the staff are looking after Dad so well.

Michael McNelisJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2024

I love being part of Care UK as they value people and have a total focus on delivering outstanding-quality care.

Mercia Grange is a stunning care home with a great team.

I joined Care UK after working as an interim manager at a not-for-profit organisation. I received a post-graduate degree in Business Management from Leeds University Business School and a Certificate in Management from Leicester University.

As a Home Manager, you must be totally focused on providing a quality living experience for the residents who we are entrusted to care for. You need to be positive and value the team that delivers care in the home, as well as ensuring any concerns of residents and their families are addressed immediately.

My favourite part of the day is being on the floor with residents and team members when they are enjoying their time together. It’s wonderful to have laughter and smiling faces in the home. The most important part of my role is ensuring all aspects of residents’ daily living experiences are centred around their wishes.

Outside of work, family is my number one priority. As I live in a livery yard, horses are a big part of my interests outside of work. I do the maintenance and leave the horse riding to my wife and daughters. I’m also an animal lover: we have dogs, a cat, five ducks and chickens.
