My sister was transferred to Penrose from the hospital on October 10th. We had no idea how poorly she was until her GP informed us on Monday 14th October her condition deteriorated and she would be having end-of-life care. The staff were very kind and sympathetic and for her remaining days cared for her with compassion ensuring her surroundings were calm and serene. They showed such love towards us when we visited. We will be forever grateful.
Thank you for your lovely words and sending our best wishes to you and all your family.
Mother initially went to Penrose Court for respite care, but her needs required her to stay permanently.
From our initial impromptu visit to browse the facilities through to the completion of 3 weeks of Respite care for Mum, we as a family could not have asked for more.
The Care Home Manager extended us a very warm welcome upon arrival and arranged for us to be shown to Mum's room on the first floor. The home itself is beautifully decorated, with very spacious areas with an array of lounge & dining rooms, a hair salon, a cinema, an open plan soft seating area & beautiful outdoor spaces for the residents to enjoy. The attentive & genuinely caring staff helped Mum feel comfortable & at ease throughout her stay, treating her with the utmost respect & compassion. Mum made use of the hair salon facilities during her stay & was thrilled with her haircut, stating it was the best she'd ever had. Daily enrichment activities were arranged so no time for boredom. An amazing time was had thank you!
Thank you for your beautiful words, we will share this with the team. I Hope Mum and Dad are doing well and remember the open invite for them to pop in.
From the very warm welcome through to the kind farewells, Penrose Court were outstanding. An amazing team of people on both residential and nursing units. Would highly recommend it. Used in this instance for respite but would not hesitate going back. A true example of how a care facility should operate.
Thank you for your lovely words and hope you are all well. Will share this with the team.
Penrose Court were attentive and compassionate in their care for my father. As a specialist dementia facility, they also helped us to understand my father's condition and how better to handle it. They helped us to deal with a very difficult situation and this extended to dealing with his death too.
Thank you for your lovely words, hope you and your family are keeping as well as you can at this difficult time.
My dad needed respite care following being in hospital for 6 weeks before returning to his flat. The staff were great with my dad as it was more that wanted him to have respite so he may have been reluctant at times. The rooms were lovely too with an ensuite shower facility.
Thank you for your lovely comments and we hope your dad has settle well back at home. Will share your lovely comments with all the staff.
I have had nothing but civility and kindness shown to me since I moved in and when my wife died treated with great sympathy.
Thank you for your lovely comments and we will share them with the team.
Exceptional, caring and professional care for three weeks following long hospitalisation and emergency surgery. The room was arranged in less than 24 hours, reassuring welcome and informative induction to new surroundings, from all staff. Excellent room facilities, including well-equipped wet room, good wifi, plentiful and frequent refreshments. Quiet environment and privacy, requests respectfully observed. A modern stimulating location with a well-maintained garden area, seating and safe varied paths. An excellent location for respite care, thank you.
Thank you for your wonderful comments and we hope your recovery continues with good health.
The home is very well situated with easy access to cafe and shops for residents able to take advantage of. Light, airy building, calm, relaxed atmosphere. Very friendly, caring staff. Well-appointed rooms with the freedom to embellish individually. Communal areas are beautifully maintained (double cloths on tables!) Comfortable seating. Music and activities are good, inclusive with words displayed. The dementia unit shows no obvious distress from any resident, one taking advantage of the garden and another of the cafe area - set up to emulate the real thing. The nursery was particularly impressive.
Thank you for your lovely words, we are trying to change our environment to improve the residents' experience so we are delighted it's having that impact.
My mum has had the best care. Nothing is too much trouble. We enjoy a laugh with all the staff. On Sundays, my sister and I have a fab lunch with Mum and the other residents.
Thank you for your wonderful comments, and we so please your enjoy your meal time every Sunday.
I am quite content here. I only have to ask one of the staff for something and it is done. Well done.
Thank your lovely comments and we will continue to get feedback so we can continue to improve all the time.
Great staff. Nice to have a laugh with everyone. On Sundays, we have lunch with Mum which she loves. Mum gets fantastic care. All her medical needs are met. Doctor on call.
Thank you for your lovely comments and we will happily share them with the team.
When my wife moved to Penrose in 2022, she could not walk/did not know where she was, after eight weeks in a hospital bed with an infection. After 18 months, it is so reassuring that the standard of care and attention at Penrose has maintained its high level. Our family is so pleased with all the help staff to give us as with their encouragement, she is now able to get around using a frame and wheelchair.
Thank you for your lovely comments, and it is wonderful to see your wife progress.
I was made very welcome on arrival and introduced to everyone. The staff were caring and helped me whenever I needed it. I was encouraged to join in all the activities which I did and enjoyed the new company. The meals on the whole were very good and an alternative was made available. I enjoyed my 3 weeks and woldn't hesitate to go back if necessary. Thank you.
Thank you for your lovely comments, we look forward to seeing you in the home again for respite care. We will share your lovely comments with the team.
My partner spent a short time at Penrose Court for respite nursing care after a spell in the hospital for an orthopedic issue. We were very impressed; the building is very modern, clean, and warm. The management and most of the staff were very helpful and friendly, with a great deal of attention being paid to individual needs for, for example, diet or medication. One or two of the staff didn’t seem to pay quite as much attention to these details - documented in a folder in her room - as we would have wished, but they were the exception and once the problem was pointed out it didn’t happen again; indeed, we had the feeling that the staff very much went out of their way to make residents feel comfortable in what is, after all, their home. My partner didn’t get very involved in any of the organized activities while she was there, but the in-house hairdressing salon - open for residents once a week - and cinema are among the facilities that put Penrose Court a cut above many care homes.
Thank you for your lovely comments and we will take on board all the areas. Hope your partner is still recovering well and you are both welcome to pop in for tea/coffee.
Good entertainment and activities programme with residents encouraged to participate. Friendly and helpful staff.
Thank you for your wonderful words and we are happy to ensure we keep our activity programme varied and our residents enjoy it.
During my recent short respite stay, I was impressed by the standard of care, kindness and efficiency of the staff. Penrose Court is of a high standard, and I would thoroughly recommend it.
Thank you for your wonderful words, and we look forward to seeing you in the future. Will share with the team.
We have been very pleased with Penrose Court Care Home. The staff are very caring and cannot do enough for the residents. The manager goes above and beyond. She is hands-on and is aware of anything that happens day to day. She takes an interest in everyone and the residents think very highly of her. The home is kept clean and tidy and generally, our relatives are happy with the meals. They enjoy all the craft and entertainment provided.
Thank you so much for these lovely and kind words. We will share this with our team.
My friend has spent a period of respite this month and I have been so impressed with the quality of care and activities provided to the residents. A really lovely atmosphere with lovely caring staff. I wouldn’t hesitate to place a family member in Penrose Court should they need a place in the future.
Thank you for your lovely response and we will share it with the team
The culture at Penrose Court is excellent from the management downwards, efficient, kind, compassionate and respectful. I am embarrassed to give such high ratings but nothing else would be fair.
Thank you for your lovely comments and we will share with the team.

I am a registered general nurse with over 11 years of experience working across the UK health and social care sector. Throughout my career, I have held a variety of clinical and leadership roles, giving me a broad understanding of delivering high-quality, person-centred care. I have achieved my NVQ Level 5 in Leadership and Management for Health and Social Care (Children and Young People and Adults) and am also a qualified Mental Health First Aider.
I am passionate about providing outstanding care and supporting both residents and staff to thrive. For me, a successful day is one where I leave knowing that I have made a positive difference to the lives of our residents by helping them feel valued, supported, and empowered to live fulfilling lives.
What makes Penrose Court so special is its commitment to treating every resident as an individual. I am proud to work alongside a dedicated team who consistently go the extra mile to enhance both the quality of care we provide and the quality of life of everyone who calls Penrose Court home.

In February 2026, Susan decided to make a change and join our Activities Coordinators team.

Hi, I am Jay. I am part of the activities team and I run Cut and Glow, our in-house salon here at Penrose Court.
I have been with Penrose since September 2018, just before it opened. I started as part of the care team and then transitioned into my current position. This is not my first time working in a care home as I have previously worked as an activities manager. This is the first salon I have run but I have been cutting hair for 38 years, I know I do not look old enough. I have held a number of jobs over the years, but they have all revolved around people as this has always been a passion. The best part of my job is interacting with the residents.
My passion for activities, particularly arts and crafts continues outside of work as I have my own crafting business. I also love spending time with my family, my favourite afternoons are spent watching Jurassic Park with my grandchildren.

Misty joined our Activities Co-ordinator Team towards the end of 2024. She loves playing games with the residents and making them smile.

Sue started working at Penrose Court in January 2022. She is part of our great housekeeping team and she thoroughly enjoys her duties which can also include activities with the residents. Her favourite part of her day is building friendships with the residents. Sue considers it a privilege and a pleasure to work at Penrose Court.

Jo joined us here at Penrose Court in August 2023. She is a part of our amazing Housekeeping team, helping keep the home clean for our wonderful Residents. Jo is very dedicated to her work and enjoys spending time and bonding with our Residents, always making them smile.
In Jo's spare time, she loves looking after her grandchildren and going camping.

Emily joined Penrose Court at the end of April 2024. She also works alongside the administrator helping with any additional Admin tasks. Emily has really enjoyed getting to know all the residents and forming a friendship with them and their family members.

Paul is the weekend receptionist here at Penrose Court
Paul joined quite recently and has been here since the beginning of February but is often told by colleagues and residents alike that it seems like he’s been here for a lot longer. This is Paul’s first time working in the care environment but is finding it very enjoyable and rewarding.
Paul’s background hails from the Civil Service, where he took early retirement after spending over 30 years at the Department of Transport but wasn’t ready to give up and when this job came up it was a 3-minute commute from my home by foot. Paul is also a Magistrate for Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire since joining the bench in 2008 and the requirements here at Penrose Court allow Paul to continue making a difference to the local community.
Paul’s passion for making a difference to people is fully satisfied in this job by the interaction with the residents and their families.

Frances has been with us at Penrose Court since 2019.
