I am upset about not being able to visit my mother in the care home during Covid. In 2022, they stopped visits due to regulations to see my mum inside the home but they have an external visiting room that is screened off exactly so someone can still visit but no contact. I was told I can't even see her in their Covid-free (non-contact) visiting room.
Guidance for visiting is followed by advice from the Local Authority and Public Health England. This advice will vary depending on the current situation both locally and nationally.
Choosing the right care home to place a loved one is a very difficult and emotional decision to make. We chose Penrose Court as it came highly recommended and oh my did we get it so right, and that is every credit to the brilliant team there. The care is just amazing, it is such a tranquil and happy place. Everyone is so friendly. A massive thank you to all the staff.
Thank you so much for your lovely comments, these will be shared with the team and will be greatly appreciated.
My dad has been a resident since January 2020 following a respite placement as he was unable to continue to live in his home following a stroke, he has called it his home from that day. Penrose Court has been a second family to us and has given us support for dad. They go above and beyond to give dad the continuing care he deserves and as a family, we know he is cared for 100%. The staff are amazing on all levels and their main priority is my dad.
Thank you so much Karen for your very kind words, your compliments have been shared with the team.
Since moving to Penrose her general health has improved greatly and she has been well looked after by a very caring team. We have nothing but praise for the staff and management during the current Covid crisis. Penrose offers a very friendly and professional atmosphere and have done everything possible to facilitate visits during Covid.
It's been a pleasure having your wife in our midst and despite the pandemic, we are glad that you've kept well and have been able to visit. I'll pass on your wonderful praise for the staff team and hope your wife continues to make steady progress. Best regards from us all.
This place is absolutely amazing for not only the residents but the family and friends too! Everything is so clean and tidy, and you are always welcomed with a smile! I’d like to take the opportunity to thank all of the staff for keeping our family and all residents safe during Covid-19.
for the residents' well-being and we value your contribution in making Penrose Court as amazing as it can be.
Penrose Court made my mother's respite a true delight. She came home happy and upbeat. She received a very high standard of care, and the staff made her feel very welcome and ensured she settled in with ease. She appears to have made new friends of both residents and staff, and eagerly awaits her next respite stay!
Thank you for your feedback and I shall pass it to the staff team who enjoyed caring for your mother. It was a pleasure having your mother staying with us and I'm glad she enjoyed her short stay that had a positive impact on her well-being. We look forward to welcoming her for her next stay and our best regards to you all.
Mixed reviews on Penrose Court. Staff are very friendly and the facilities themselves are fantastic, however, I'm not particularly impressed by the standard of care. In my opinion, this should be a lot better for a high-end facility. There were several times that I felt my father's personal hygiene was not attended to adequately - and on multiple occasions he was even dressed in other residents (ill-fitting) clothes. This is pretty basic stuff that I would expect a care home charging £1k+ a week to get right.
Thank you for your comments and I am sorry to hear you are unhappy about some negative experiences at Penrose Court. I will feedback your experiences to improve our service and thank you for your kind words for the staff and positive feedback for the facilities and activities provided. Your Dad's...
My mum is currently at Penrose, and with comorbidities is being cared for with the highest respect and care. All staff have as I understand have ongoing training and are very well chosen. We are in difficult times, however the staff seem to be kind and considerate and currently are taking on a very large responsibility in addition to their usual jobs , simply because I cannot visit, see or help mum. We hear so much negativity about care homes, I just wish there was an organisation that all caring staff could join to feel supported. Carers do care, and it is not an easy job. I feel the staff also know and work with me on a personal basis very well, and I would recommend Penrose to anyone. Continue the good work all. With many thanks.
Thank you so much for your kind words. We are more than happy to care for Mum particularly during this time.
The staff are caring and thoughtful and have made Mum feel very welcome since she became a resident last year. There is a varied and tasty menu and there are activities every day for the residents to enjoy. It is a large modern building with spacious, modern rooms with en-suite facilities, with a pleasant, friendly atmosphere. Mum is very happy and all the family enjoy visiting. The home is only let down in the summer on very hot days when Mum's room can be a little bit too warm and stuffy. There is air conditioning in the lounges, and it is a shame it couldn't have been installed in all the rooms. This is a small gripe as apart from this Penrose is excellent.
Generally, the care and patience shown by the staff are outstanding. My main concern is the number of falls my husband has had, mainly unwitnessed, necessitating visits to A&E, due to the anti-coagulant medication. I feel he needs more regular checks, especially at night, as he is mostly unable to remember to use his alarm.
I think the care/support that all staff give my father in law is excellent. The staff are always friendly and helpful to visitors and residents.
A very click team of staff. Everything spotless and extremely well run. My friend is more than happy with the superb standard of care he is receiving.
My dad has had the best care ever. From the minute he went in to today. He is a different man. Happy, content and a lot better in himself. All staff should be proud.
Care is consistently good, food is good and prepared on the premises one of the best homes I have seen.
For a new venture, it was extremely well run and lovely staff. Whenever there was a problem or issue, it was dealt with promptly. I was made to feel welcome.

I am a registered general nurse with over 11 years of experience working across the UK health and social care sector. Throughout my career, I have held a variety of clinical and leadership roles, giving me a broad understanding of delivering high-quality, person-centred care. I have achieved my NVQ Level 5 in Leadership and Management for Health and Social Care (Children and Young People and Adults) and am also a qualified Mental Health First Aider.
I am passionate about providing outstanding care and supporting both residents and staff to thrive. For me, a successful day is one where I leave knowing that I have made a positive difference to the lives of our residents by helping them feel valued, supported, and empowered to live fulfilling lives.
What makes Penrose Court so special is its commitment to treating every resident as an individual. I am proud to work alongside a dedicated team who consistently go the extra mile to enhance both the quality of care we provide and the quality of life of everyone who calls Penrose Court home.

Recently qualifying at the end of last year, Jade has worked at Penrose Court since it opened as bank staff and is now full-time. Jade has been in the care industry for over 10 years, working in the community and other private care homes.

With 14 years of experience in the care home sector, Susan’s passion for providing the highest standard of care to residents has never wavered. They feel privileged to be part of the warm and welcoming environment at Penrose Court and are proud to be a much-valued member of the team.
In February 2026, Susan decided to make a change and join our Activities Coordinators team.

Hi, I am Jay. I am part of the activities team and I run Cut and Glow, our in-house salon here at Penrose Court.
I have been with Penrose since September 2018, just before it opened. I started as part of the care team and then transitioned into my current position. This is not my first time working in a care home as I have previously worked as an activities manager. This is the first salon I have run but I have been cutting hair for 38 years, I know I do not look old enough. I have held a number of jobs over the years, but they have all revolved around people as this has always been a passion. The best part of my job is interacting with the residents.
My passion for activities, particularly arts and crafts continues outside of work as I have my own crafting business. I also love spending time with my family, my favourite afternoons are spent watching Jurassic Park with my grandchildren.

Misty joined our Activities Co-ordinator Team towards the end of 2024. She loves playing games with the residents and making them smile.

Sue started working at Penrose Court in January 2022. She is part of our great housekeeping team and she thoroughly enjoys her duties which can also include activities with the residents. Her favourite part of her day is building friendships with the residents. Sue considers it a privilege and a pleasure to work at Penrose Court.

Jo joined us here at Penrose Court in August 2023. She is a part of our amazing Housekeeping team, helping keep the home clean for our wonderful Residents. Jo is very dedicated to her work and enjoys spending time and bonding with our Residents, always making them smile.
In Jo's spare time, she loves looking after her grandchildren and going camping.

Emily joined Penrose Court at the end of April 2024. She also works alongside the administrator helping with any additional Admin tasks. Emily has really enjoyed getting to know all the residents and forming a friendship with them and their family members.

Paul is the weekend receptionist here at Penrose Court
Paul joined quite recently and has been here since the beginning of February but is often told by colleagues and residents alike that it seems like he’s been here for a lot longer. This is Paul’s first time working in the care environment but is finding it very enjoyable and rewarding.
Paul’s background hails from the Civil Service, where he took early retirement after spending over 30 years at the Department of Transport but wasn’t ready to give up and when this job came up it was a 3-minute commute from my home by foot. Paul is also a Magistrate for Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire since joining the bench in 2008 and the requirements here at Penrose Court allow Paul to continue making a difference to the local community.
Paul’s passion for making a difference to people is fully satisfied in this job by the interaction with the residents and their families.

Frances has been with us at Penrose Court since 2019.
