My aunt has been in the care home for 2 years now. During that time there has been a few changes of managers and staff however my aunt has always been happy, looked after and well fed. If I've had any concerns they have been dealt with. At meetings for the relatives, the staff, in particular the manager,
are very open to suggestions. Since the new manager joined Newton House, we have seen quite a few improvements. As Christmas approaches the care home is looking very festive with more places being added. Well done.

Staff, both care and admin are very good. Very close tan bright and cheery. Leading to a welcoming ambience. The food and baking are excellent but most of all 'my' resident is well and thoughtfully cared for. Communication is much improved.

On the whole, the care provided by Newton House is very good. My mother is very happy in her new environment and she always has positive things to say about the permanent staff members and the services that are provided.
Newton House has some obvious challenges regarding the securing of permanent
members of staff, so there is an over-reliance on agency staff who do not get to know mum in the same way as permanent staff members, and therefore do not understand my mother's particular needs. We have recently had a 6 week review, and the staff who attended were very transparent about matters that were raised and I have every confidence that initial problems with communication and housekeeping will be addressed.

We arrived around 3.30 pm, medicines were taken, we were left with no contact until 5 pm and then offered tea. No contact was made during this time. For a new resident, this was quite upsetting, felt abandoned in a difficult situation.
The majority of staff are good, just a couple whom we find difficult
to understand. We would appreciate more continuity of staffing to build a stronger relationship with residents, staff and relatives. We are finding food portions rather small and would ask for slightly bigger portions to help build up weight.

My husband has been a resident for one year. I have been very pleased with the way has been looked after. he seems content. I visit him two to three times a week. I am pleased that the manager has been replaced as I very rarely saw her over the six months she was the home.

Our father recently moved into Newton House. As a family, we have experienced kind, considerate support and advice in order to make this move a success. Immediate measures were put in place to protect our father from falling. The home is immaculate. We have excellent communication with all the staff
involved in Dad's care. It has been a pleasure to visit, and Dad is settling quickly. We can all rest easy knowing that Dad is safe and well cared for. Thank you to all the staff for all your hard work, kindness and professionalism. Highly recommended.

My brother-in-law has been at Newton House Care Home for a year until he passed away peacefully on 28th February 2022. Ad his only visitor - due principally to Covid restrictions - I must say how impressed I was not only by the fabulous high standards of your home and facilities but even more so by
your wonderful staff. The staff I found to be caring, competent, calm and empathetic - my brother-in-law could not have had better care anywhere.

I love it here. Great premises, love the cinema, entrance cafe and my room couldn't be better- I've painted pictures all my life. I am encouraged to do things but sadly learning all too quickly the effects of Dementia. Feed the birds, help plant plugs, take up exercises at every opportunity. I am aware
of staff shortages but for the terrific work done by our staff to keep up standards expected of them, I demand that they are all recognised for their humanity as well as physical efforts under such stressful times.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.714)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.714) out of 10 for Newton House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 31 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.714 for Newton House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (302 Excellents x 5) + (35 Goods x 4) + (15 Satisfactorys x 3) + (9 Poors x 2) + (3 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 364 Ratings = 4.714
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Newton House Care Home is based on 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 113 registered maximum number of service users is 22.6, which has been reached with 28 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
