Dad is looked after sooo well at Bothwell!
The staff all l9ve him and he is very fond of them....probably with favourites who enjoy his interests too. Dad doesn't come out of his room for his meals and the staff all know know his likes and dislikes from the menu and Chef is very accommodating and
provides Dad with other options. Dad's is diabetic and has been for 25years and has been very up and down for all of that time....but now he has come to Bothwell it is more under control than it's ever been...and the staff know Dad's particularly signs of a hypo and they're on it right away.
All the staff couldn't be more helpful to Dad or to us as a family. Dad's been there almost 2years now...he seems very settled...and that's what matters....and makes us happy too!
Reply from Michelle Ferrey, Regional Director at Bothwell CastleThank you for your kind words. We truly appreciate your feedback, and it is wonderful to hear how well the staff at Bothwell Castle recognise and support your Dad's needs.

Excellent medical care and personal respect is always prioritised with our mums wishes always considered and supported.
We are kept up to date with all communication.
Activities are varied and our mum is encouraged to participate and she enjoys them.
Meals and menus are cooked and served with care
in a lovely dining environment.
Personal care is excellent,
However at times there needs to be more care and respect for her personal belongings when accessing her wardrobe and drawers .
We are always made to feel welcome by the whole team .
Staffing has definitely improved and it's nice to see regular team members creating a friendly and family feel.
Reply from Michelle Ferrey, Regional Director at Bothwell CastleThank you for your kind words. Taking up residence straight from being in hospital we were very happy at how quickly our sister/aunt settled into the routine of nursing care. The welfare and care provided the rehabilitation needed. The daily events provide stimulation and opportunity to make new friendships. Overall a very positive
experience.

I'm sure that moving a parent into a care home is a difficult transition for many families. It was for us after my Mother died and my Dad was no longer able to care for himself, and had a spell in hospital. This was in July 2025.
The team at Bothwell Castle demonstrated compassion and unending patience.
Their nursing care is excellent when Dad needs it for chronic and acute conditions. The social care team are kind, go about their work with care and a sense of humour.
Also must mention the laundry team who look after clothing as if it was their own.
Dad is now settled and his physical health and mobility are better than last year.
Reply from Sharon Maxwell, General Manager at Bothwell CastleThank you so much for your kind words. It is lovely to hear that you have found the team here at Bothwell Castle to be kind and compassionate as this aligns with our company values which are at the heart of everything that we do. I will share your review with the wider team as they are always very appreciative of positive feedback.

After being in hospital for 9 weeks, the hospital recommended that mum move to a 24 hour nursing dementia care facility. We were distressed as a family about making this decision but knew it was in her best interests. We visited a number of nursing homes and Bothwell Castle Care Home stood out in terms
of facilities, staffing and the care they showed us as a family when having to make a tough decision.
When mum initially moved in she was extremely agitated, would not sit still for 2 minutes!! All staff have been fantastic with her, from the ancillary staff, carers, nurses, hairdressers, admin and management team.
The difference in mum over the last couple of months has been great, she is now settled, content in her surroundings and enjoys getting out to events organised by the home.
We are welcomed warmly by staff when we visit and they are always available to answer any questions or to just give us an update on how mum has been. 5 stars from me!!
Reply from Sharon Maxwell, General Manager at Bothwell CastleThank you so much for your kind review. It is heart-warming to hear that the team at Bothwell Castle have made such a positive difference to both your mum and the family from the point of your initial visit and continue to do so.

Excellent from the first initial enquiry, cannot recommend highly enough.
My sister and I were very stressed trying to find a suitable care home to accept mum's basic nursing needs & dementia care. Having visited 12 care homes we were loosing hope when Marion welcomed us and made the whole process
seamless. Within one week Mum was transferred from hospital and warmly welcomed by all staff. All staff from cleaning staff to senior nursing staff could not have been nicer and were very professional.
Sadly Mum only had 10 days in the care home and it was at a difficult time over Christmas, however our family was so comforted that her end of life care was handled professionally & compassionately. Not only was Mum looked after and cared for, but our whole family. We were made to feel part of the family and community at Bothwell Castle. A special thank you to Caroline & Stephanie and all staff in Castle Court. We so appreciated in the short time Mum was there all your excellent care.
Reply from Sharon Maxwell, General Manager at Bothwell CastleThank you so much for your kind review. It is lovely to hear that our staff provided comfort and compassion at such a difficult time. I will be sure to pass this on to the team in Castlegate.

Bothwell Castle staff sold a highly polished and luxurious exterior, which turned out to be a total facade.
My father stayed in Bothwell Castle Care home for a period of 8 weeks. 10 days in he had had several falls, despite numerous discussions with staff in relation to my dad's poor vision and confusion
due to his dementia. His basic needs in respect of skin care and presentation were totally ignored. He lost so much weight as he was not being supported properly at mealtimes.
My mother was assaulted when visiting, they denied the circumstances leading up to the assault.
I have never met such a spiteful, hostile and bullying culture in a care home in either my professional or personal experience.
I am a retired Social Worker.
We complained about the poor quality of care, the response, my father was asked to leave. The staff also hampered access to other care home placements. When leaving, NOT ONE staff member came to say goodbye to my beloved father.
HORRIBLE ENVIRONMENT.

Mum in Bothwell Castle for two weeks respite and her first experience of a care home. Thankfully, she had glowing reports of her experience there. I spoke with her daily and although it took her a few days to adjust, mum had nothing but praise for the kind and generous staff as nothing was too much
trouble. She particularly enjoyed the comfort and security of people around her, the lovely meal choices, the decor and cleanliness and the Friday entertainment. Thank you to everyone for taking such good care of my mum, she said she would go back anytime!

I want to express my sincere gratitude for the exceptional care and compassion shown to my mum over the past six years. The standard of care has never faltered and continues to exceed our expectations. So many dedicated staff work tirelessly, delivering not just excellent care but doing so with warmth,
empathy, and a gentle touch. My mum has formed lovely bonds with many of the team, especially one staff member in particular, whose kindness and natural connection with her is wonderful to see. I'm always kept informed about my mum's wellbeing, which brings real peace of mind. Thank you for all that you do - your dedication and compassion make a lasting difference. On the whole, a good care home. However, extremely expensive and staffing levels, at times, not high enough. More attention needs to be paid to retention of staff. Dignity and respect are always displayed but more attention needs to be given to encouraging routine where possible and documenting sleep
patterns, fluid intake. For dementia patients/clients, more attention needs to be given to encouraging fluids when the person is unable to initiate this.
Reply from Liz Brown, General Manager at Bothwell CastleHi Lesley, thank you for sharing your feedback. We appreciate hearing about your concerns regarding fluid intake and sleep patterns. We understand how vital proper hydration and restful sleep are for our resident's health and comfort and we are truly sorry if we have fell short in these areas. To help ensure that our residents have had adequate fluid intake we have regular fluid rounds and encourage residents to drink frequently throughout the day and night. Our care team also monitor sleep patterns and work to create a comfortable environment conducive to rest. Thank you again for bringing this to our attention. Feedback like this is invaluable in helping us to improve the quality of care for our residents. Please feel free to pop in and see the manager if you have any concerns that we can help to resolve.

(1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 75 registered maximum number of service users is 15, which has been reached with 25 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
