With the additional member of the activities staff, hopefully, more activities within the home.
Maybe at least monthly a theme day with a 'take away' for the residents.
Agency staff is a concern, especially at weekends. Hopefully, this will improve with additional members of staff in the future.
Reply from Liz Brown, General Manager at Bothwell CastleThank you for your review. We are continuously recruiting at Bothwell Castle and hope to be back up to being fully staffed with our activity and care staff soon. We are looking at having a round the world theme day once a month where we look at different countries and their cultural food traditions. We welcome any suggestions that you may have.

My sister moved back to Scotland from Australia to be near to family. She has been diagnosed with mixed dementia and had no family left in Australia. She moved into Bothwell Castle in April and the staff have made her and all her family very comfortable. They have made sure she is safe and consulted
with the family if any concerns. The staff are excellent and can't do enough to help my sister and family.
Reply from Liz Brown, General Manager at Bothwell CastleHi,
Thank you for your kind words. Here at Bothwell Castle we ensure our residents are safe and their health and happiness is a priority. We like to ensure families are updated regularly to keep them fully informed.

My sister has been a resident for 5 months and the care and devotion of the staff has been very impressive. The staff keep abreast of my sister's illness and deterioration and responds quickly, compassionately and attentively to each change to ensure her happiness and safety at all times.
The number
one priority in the home is the safety and well-being of their residents and this is shown by all the staff, from housekeeping to the managers and everyone else in between. Everyone is welcoming and friendly and nothing is too much bother.
The facilities and surroundings are impressive, well-maintained and accessible to residents and visitors. The bedrooms are calming and individualised to each resident.
The well-being and activities programmes are amazing and there is always something going on, whether it is inside or out, it is catered and tailored to meet the needs of all the residents.
It is peace of mind that our sister is in a secure, safe, happy and compassionate environment.

All the staff have been kind and helpful from the start and nice to see the friendly welcome that my sister received and the reassurance that they have given her to help her to settle into her new surroundings. The home has provided regular updates on my sister's health and well-being and the communication
from the local surgery was excellent. The members of her family who have visited her have all been impressed by the high levels of care and attention so far to my sister and her visitors.

The care given to my mother has been good; however, the communication has been very poor. Our family have been unaware of certain significant changes to my mother's care as well as her general health and well-being due to this lack of communication.

My relative has been a resident within Bothwell Castle through the covid pandemic and although there were positive cases within the home, did not contract covid. Guidelines were strictly adhered to, but with their compassionate approach, the home dealt with the pandemic in a very considered way. There
has been a high turnover of staff and management with agency staff introduced, however, with new additional staff being introduced, positive changes are already noticeable. Family are regularly kept up to date and family meetings show transparency and responsibility. The staff go over and beyond and it's very much noticed and appreciated. Keep up the good work and well done.
Reply from Liz Brown, General Manager at Bothwell CastleThank you so much for the lovely comments in your review. I will pass this on to the staff for you. The reception staff are welcoming and helpful.
The new manager is easily accessible and will act on complaints.
Staff generally are very helpful.
Covid hygiene standards have been generally well maintained.
Person-centred care needs to improve. Staff are constantly changing floors, or there are
new staff who change, so some staff are not familiar with residents. A "This is Me" document has been issued for each resident which is an improvement.
Awareness of each resident's medical needs is not always well communicated between staff nor is medical history.
Promises made in the brochure about transport and activities are improving, but are very inconsistent and not always appropriate for the residents' cognitive abilities. (ie. if they do not have dementia).
The surroundings are luxurious, but the care needs to improve to meet that standard. The menu and food offered also fluctuate in standard.
Reply from Liz Brown, General Manager at Bothwell CastleThank you for taking the time to bring your experience to our attention. The staff at Bothwell Castle, always try to accommodate any requests we have. They are friendly and attentive and always ensure they are available for any advice required. The reception staff are always very welcoming and try to accommodate visiting requests wherever possible. I have booked dining on
a few occasions in a private room and they could not have done more for us. I feel throughout the pandemic the staff have always tried to do their best and I never heard them complaining. Now things are beginning to get back to normal, I’m sure all aspects of socialising and entertainment will resume, ensuring residents and their families have a happy and active day. Food is always of a very high standard and well presented. All members of staff are very visual within the home and take time to speak to family also. I would recommend Bothwell Castle and look forward to activities and entertainment, post-pandemic, returning to normal, ensuring a fun summer within the home.

I can’t get my head around the fact it is classed as luxury, and that any review has got to be good and you can’t mention anything about negligence, well the only good thing the home has to offer is the low-income staff are amazing (the little staff they have) security is non-existent for the residents
as other residents can go in and out of residents rooms, medical care, is ignored the list goes on. I would like for my aunt to be safe and well looked after but not the case.

My father was admitted to Bothwell Castle Care Home earlier this year following subdural haematomas and requisite surgery at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow. The Care Home has been utterly outstanding both in caring for him and helping him to recuperate. He has also now been diagnosed with early
onset dementia and the complicated logistics of transferring him from hospital and both admitting him and assessing him was carried out professionally and faultlessly. He is settled and now fully physically recovered. He has made friends and is enjoying life. The care home staff have been outstanding not only in looking after him but in helping my mother adjust to life on her own. They have facilitated almost every need, quite often at short notice, and even arranged a family Graduation Afternoon Tea for my daughter/his granddaughter. This is a prime example of the thoughtfulness of everyone involved in my fathers care. I simply cannot thank them enough.

Since mum entered into Bothwell Castle I have seen mum's personality return. Before her life was full of stress and tears. Now, mum walks around happily, singing at every opportunity. She has gained weight and made friends, the stress has gone.
Bothwell Castle through the Dementia Enablement Lead
and all the other staff seem to have built a very happy environment, even with this difficult year we have all had to endure.
Mum always seems well-tended, she is clean and her clothes seem well laundered. When I have been in her room it is always clean and well maintained.
My interaction with the staff from reception to care staff, has been nothing but pleasurable, I feel as if they know mum and mum is certainly comfortable around them, which gives me a sense of reassurance. The Dementia Enablement Lead feeds back any issues and is there to answer any questions that need answering.

The Dementia Enablement Lead has been fantastic for me and my family, she’s helped me to understand Dementia just that bit better, she recently helped us to resolve a problem with my dad's medication that has now resulted in him being a lot more settled which has given myself and my family peace of
mind. - she even did a Dementia Experience for my brother, (scary stuff but brilliant). She always keeps me up to date with emails and phone calls and tries to send us some photos when it’s been a good day for my dad and calms me down whenever I call, she is a godsend along with all the other staff, we don’t know what we would do without her and the team. Thank you for being there.

My Mother-in-law was a home buddy and only liked her family around her and was not a lady who socialised. Last week was our first visit to see her in seven months. I went into the garden with her grandkids and she was glowing, I could not believe it. After being there for an hour I could see why. The
atmosphere was so family orientated. A lot of residents were outside enjoying the glorious sunshine. The jovial camaraderie of the well-being lady supervising them was a joy to watch. After a short time, we were joining in the singsongs and talking over to residents who were outside. My Mother-in-law was telling me all about them and saying they were her friends. She never had friends in her life. I was heartbroken thinking of her in a home but it is not the end, just a new chapter. You could clearly see the residents fussing over each other and the bond was very emotional to see. The staff were not like paid staff but friends and loved ones who enjoyed being with each other. Well done all.

Our mum has received the very best care since arriving in November 2020. From the initial enquiries to Mum's move, everyone at Bothwell Castle Care Home has been caring, compassionate and kind. In what has been a very challenging year, the management and staff made the situation so much easier for Mum
and for the family.
Most importantly, the care Mum receives is outstanding and is specific to her needs, which can be complex at times. Staff are always happy to answer any questions we have and when we call the updates we receive are detailed and personal to Mum.
The atmosphere for residents is calm, positive and caring. Mum loves the pampering she receives and this is great for her well being!
It is reassuring to know Mum is receiving exceptional care in a beautiful social setting with a care team who are second to none.
Thank you to everyone at Bothwell Castle Care Home, everything you do for Mum is very much appreciated!

Excellent service and care from day one of mum entering the nursing home.
Mum was very frail when she entered, but now she is like a different person. She has come on greatly with the 24-hour care and support of all the staff. She has put on weight, she smiles, she has made friends. It’s a joy to see
this.
She enjoys going to the hairdresser and getting her nails done, hand and feet massages etc. The wee things that she wasn’t able to do prior to going into the home.
The standard/decor of the bedrooms and the communal areas are amazing. Very welcoming and friendly atmosphere.
The staff are always on hand to assist Mum, and this is a great asset, especially during the night, which gives us peace of mind.
She interacts with the well planned variety of activities in the home and loves a wee dance and music... which there is plenty of.
I would thoroughly recommend Bothwell Castle Care Home. We have absolutely no regrets in choosing it for our mum.

(1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 75 registered maximum number of service users is 15, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I love my role her at Bothwell Castle, the staff are very friendly and welcoming, their is a great atmosphere around the place.
