Both my parents have been residing at Smyth Lodge, my dad on the nursing floor and my mum on the residential floor. The care that has been provided to both my parents has been outstanding. Sadly, my dad was very poorly, and he passed away in December 2023. The support that the home has given to both
my mum and myself during this very difficult time has been amazing. On the day of the funeral, the staff supported my mum to prepare for the day, and the home even provided a carer to escort my mum all day, allowing myself and other family the opportunity to grieve without having to worry about Mum's care needs being appropriately met.
Smyth Lodge is a wonderful home with an amazing staff team, who are supported by an excellent management team. Thank you to all of you for all you have done for both my dad and mum, and I know you will continue to do for my mum moving forward.

Lovely home and always very clean with very friendly staff, had a wonderful time at the Christmas market with my nan and she really enjoyed herself too, nice to see my nan socialising with other people too.

Beautiful home and always very clean. Recently visited my nan for the Christmas market and we all had a great time. The staff are always extremely lovely when I visit and make sure Nan and the residents are enjoying themselves. Was lovely to see my nan having a good time and socialising with everyone.

My mum came into this home in February 2023. She did not take part in the many activities as she was a very quiet, shy person and was probably too ill anyway. She only was in this home for seven weeks but the staff were lovely and her room was kept very clean. She was very well cared for up until the
end and was looking to be kept comfortable. I would recommend this home to anybody.

My dad started last year with respite care at Smyth Lodge and felt very safe and well cared for. When the time came this year for him to need full time care, there was no hesitation in going to Smyth Lodge. My dad was very well looked after. I found all the staff excellent in not only their care for
my dad, but also for myself and family in keeping us updated with his health and wellbeing. I visited every day and would always recommend Smyth Lodge.

My mother has recently become a resident at Smthye Lodge.
A heartbreaking decision that I struggled to make. I could not have asked for more support, guidance and genuine interest in us coming to terms with the next chapter of not only my mother's life but mine too. They not only take excellent care
of the residents but also the families. They are always available to talk over any concerns or worries I have. Every single member of staff I have met there has been experienced, warm and caring. The facilities and activities are excellent. Her room and facilities are lovely as is the food on the daily menu. Beautiful gardens to enjoy and use. When I leave after visiting her I do so in the knowledge that she is safe and looked after by a team of people who care and do their utmost to meet all of her needs and bring happiness to her day. The staff are all an amazing group of people.

It is now six weeks since my wife arrived at Smyth Lodge and my family a pleased and relieved that decision was made. The visiting is now a pleasant and varied experience. Activities are regular and welcoming. Every member of staff has displayed a professional and courteous manner. Most importantly

We, as a family, have been so impressed by each member of staff at Smyth Lodge. The level of care and attention they show to each resident, treating everyone with the utmost dignity, is second to none. Communication is strong, and everyone is willing to listen, share advice and chat too. How much the
care is evident. It is a clean, nurturing and friendly atmosphere, and everyone is so welcoming. We trust the team implicitly - they are like an extension of our own family in how much they care.

My mother has recently moved into Smyth Lodge after transferring from another care home. It's been a very positive experience for her, and I've witnessed the staff going the extra mile to support the residents, and there is a very nice atmosphere in the home, and it gives me a lot of peace of mind to
know that my mother is in safe hands. My mother was previously not eating very much in the previous home (due to the quality of the food), but she's now eating properly again and often tells me that she likes the food at Smyth Lodge. All of the members of staff I've met are friendly, caring and patient and I feel that my mum is being well looked after. I would highly recommend it.

My mother-in-law moved to the nursing floor in December 2022. It took a bit of time for her to settle, but the staff tried hard to make it as smooth as possible.
The staff there are lovely on the second floor. They are always friendly and take good care of her. The manager is also very nice and deals
with things promptly.
As soon as you walk in, there is a nice atmosphere, and it feels homely. The food is a bit hit-and-miss, but they try their best.
The activities have got better, and Mum really enjoys going to them. They have had some permanent staff join recently, it’s nice to see familiar faces, and they are getting to know Mum.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them; they go the extra mile to help their residents and are very caring.

My sister stayed here for three weeks respite whilst I went away. It was lovely there. The staff were friendly and really took great care of my sister and her needs. The bedroom was set out very nicely, with a TV on the wall. The ensuite bathrooms were set out with grab handles and everything for safety.
The lounge was very nice, and the dining room. There was a good choice on the food menu. There is a hair salon. The staff were always on hand. Our family were very happy with the care our sister received. I hope there will be a room available for my sister when I go away next time. I went away with no worries. My sister was happy, cared for and safe. Thank you all.

My great aunt and dad have recently moved into Smyth Lodge, both onto the dementia floor. This has been an emotional and challenging time for us as a family, and I cannot fault the care and support that the girls and the wider team have provided. Their approach has been sensitive, professional, skilled
and tailored as they settle Dad and my great aunt into their new surroundings. We also can’t fault the cleanliness or quality of food, and the standards dramatically exceed what we saw viewing other care homes.
The support, kindness and understanding shown (not forgetting the yummy cakes) have been much appreciated whilst we adjust to this new chapter.

My mum went in for respite care, but has had to stay longer due to a longer recovery time. She is so happy at Smyth Lodge. It is an exceptional care home with amazing staff. She has been to others for respite but is so at home at Smyth Lodge. It was her 95th Birthday recently and she had an amazing
afternoon as the staff made it so special for her. They are not just residents to the staff, they are treated as friends and with kindness and thoughtfulness. I highly recommend Smyth Lodge, whether it be for respite, long-term care or end-of-life care. Every one of their residents is treated with respect and kindness.

We were really reluctant to move Mum into a care home but sadly had no option. From day one, she has received an amazing level of care and compassion. The staff emphasise that we treat the home as if it was Mum's home, and my little dog is welcome too. My mum suffers from Dementia, and the home has
a specialist suite to cater for all levels. Both the staff and activities team provide brilliant care and stimulation for the residents. Mum enjoyed afternoon tea out with other residents yesterday and has a trip to a garden centre organised soon. Every day there is something different to enjoy. They have all made a really tough and emotional time much easier, and I couldn't be more grateful.

The team at Smythe Lodge have been fantastic. They supported my wife very well, providing a level of care beyond my expectations. The whole team were attentive and went out of their way to put my mind at ease, keep me updated, and also see how my family and I were too. The team were also great with
my daughter too on visits, humouring her and spending time with her. I'd definitely recommend it - my wife's room was clean and bright - and she was well fed too. Really great end-to-end service and support

Job Title: Home Manager

I’m a qualified general nurse and I’ve worked in nursing since the 1980s. I worked in emergency nursing for 20 years before moving into social care, first managing a small home and then managing larger homes. Before joining the Smyth Lodge team I was managing a 120-bed home.


I feel strongly that I and my team are here to help residents to live their best life. It’s important to see them as holistic people. They’re a husband or wife, brother or sister, a mum or dad or a best friend. There’s a lot we can learn from them.


I love hearing residents and colleagues laughing together. Humour is so important. I enjoy engaging with my team, with the people we care for and with their loved ones. I enjoy combining my nursing skills with being a leader. I believe that being a nurse – and a home manager – is an honour.
