Smyth Lodge

My father was a resident at Smyth Lodge from September 2024 until his death, one week short of his 98th birthday, in August 2025. The facilities and standard of care at Smyth Lodge are excellent and my father enjoyed a greatly improved quality of life during his 11 months there. All the staff were so caring towards him and everyone I came into contact knew of his needs and wants. It really did feel that Smyth Lodge was his home and not just an institution in which he was a resident. Visiting him was a pleasure, from the always warm greetings from all the staff to having a morning chat with him over the excellent coffee and pastries in the coffee bar and a post-lunch glass of beer or wine in the bar or garden.

It is a special place staffed by a special team.

It's like living in a first-class hotel. The food is like being in a restaurant. The very first person who welcomed me was the team leader, she treated me like a family member. All the staff treat me very well. I am very happy here. It's like living with a big family.

Our father had been a resident at Smyth Lodge for about 17 months before he sadly died in January this year and the care he received was outstanding to the extent that the carers didn't just care for him, they loved him. The staff were very kind and patient with him as he had dementia and they called him 'Mr Grateful' as he was exactly that, always thanking them for everything they did to make him as comfortable as possible. I would recommend Smyth Lodge to anyone looking for somewhere for a family member. I should also add the staff were always supportive to the family members and a number of them have said they would like to attend his funeral. He will make his final journey from the care home to the church for the funeral service - a testament to how much we have appreciated everything the staff did for him.

Your staff allowed my brother to die with dignity in his room where he was safe and very well looked after. Thank you to all the staff. My family are very thankful.

My husband had 3 weeks of respite care and he enjoyed his stay. I could tell it was a very caring home, so I was pleased to leave him in their care. I will definitely recommend it to family and friends.

The care received is first class. The staff are wonderful, and very professional but also kind, caring, supportive, and helpful not only to the residents but the family members as well.

Very happy with the care home. The team there are very caring, always happy, and friendly. Would recommend it. All residents seem happy and contented. Always something for them to do. It's kept nice and clean and tidy.

They keep me fully informed every month when she is resident of the day of any issues that they feel I need to be aware of.

My mother has been in the care home for 4 months. She is unable to walk or stand on her own. She has been included in all the activities that she wants to take part in and has thoroughly enjoyed them. She is now pretty much bedridden and the love and care that she is receiving is great. She is encouraged to still do what she can for herself, on bad days they encourage her to eat and feed her. I cannot thank them enough for looking after her so well. On the first visit to the home, I knew I was making the right choice for her. Thank you to all the staff for keeping her comfortable and loved.

From the very first moment we came to Smyth Lodge we noticed how the whole place has a lovely atmosphere. Every single member of staff has been totally amazing, helpful, supportive, and always smiling. There is also a very warm welcome from other residents family and friends and a genuine support for one another. Smyth Lodge is a very special place and I am so pleased that my mum is happy and making such excellent progress.

All the staff are incredibly helpful, professional and accommodating. It's always a pleasure coming to visit my Aunt and Uncle, both residents of the home. I highly recommend the home and all the staff.

My mum stayed at Smyth Lodge temporarily while her flat was made ready. Five months in all. Mum was treated with respect and dignity, her room was clean and comfortable. The staff were attentive and respectful, they encouraged her to be independent and self-caring, to assist with the move onto her private accommodation.

I have been very impressed with the care my relative has received and also the activities that have been carried out with him. All staff have been very friendly and caring, and the home has a very good atmosphere. My family and I are extremely happy with Smyth Lodge.

From the day that I was first shown around, I knew this was the best place for my dad and for us as a family. It's so stressful being put in a situation where a parent is unwell suddenly and can't go home. Dad was given excellent care and was treated with dignity throughout his time here. Smyth Lodge is a wonderful home with an amazing staff team, who are supported by an excellent management team. Thank you to all of you for all you have done for both my dad and mum, and I know you will continue to do for my mum moving forward.

Lovely home and always very clean with very friendly staff, had a wonderful time at the Christmas market with my nan and she really enjoyed herself too, nice to see my nan socialising with other people too.
