My mother has been in the care home since December 2021. She is 92, spent several months in hospital after a serious fall which has left her fairly immobile and highlighted her failing health which is hard to take as she was totally independent before. She is now in Alban Manor on palliative care. Her whole demeanour has changed since being in there. She had become hospitalised but now I feel I have my mum back, for however long. She is eating well, looks younger, and loves the carers looking after her. As someone said to me, no care home is perfect and compromises will have to be made but the staff at Alban Manor appear to try to make life as normal as possible. The hardest thing from my point of view is to let go of total responsibility for my mother but I have found on a few occasions that they do have my mother's back and they have listened to me.

In extremely trying times I am seeing real nursing care and compassion being given to my father who is suffering from the extremes of dementia and other issues. I am extremely happy that my father is being shown dignity with his issues and would highly recommend Alban Manor.

My mother suffered from dementia and spent her final months at Alban Manor. The staff were unfailingly patient and caring and demonstrated a real affection for my mum and the other residents. I also thought the team did a very good job of keeping me posted on my mother’s health and needs. I have great admiration and appreciation for the job that they do.

My mother moved into Alban Manor a few months ago and we have been very happy with the service and care that she has been getting. The staff are always friendly and do an excellent job, and even with the pandemic going on we have been able to visit as often as we want. My only complaint would be the cost, but I think that applies to all the care homes around here: all-around care is obviously an expensive business.

Mum, who had advanced dementia, moved into Alban Manor Nursing Home in February this year following a heart attack, falls and a hospital stay making it impossible for her to remain in her own home. Mum’s short stay at Alban Manor turned out to be end of life care as she died in May in her sleep at the age of 92. The care Mum received was excellent and personalised. The staff ensured Mum spent her days in the resident's lounge and Mum took great pleasure from the lively dog! Staff were warm, helpful and professional and responded quickly to questions and concerns, with the wellbeing of residents their priority. Alban Manor is well managed, and the staff know all the residents well. I am sorry that Covid measures meant I wasn’t able to share more of Mum’s life at Alban Manor, but thank everyone for looking after Mum.

An elderly friend who I used to look after is now in Alban Manor Nursing Home. They treat him with the friendship and dignity he deserves whilst ensuring his safety. The staff are wonderful and the food is tasty. The rooms are a little tired but serve their purpose and are very clean, which is the most important thing.

My mother has been at Alban Manor for the past two months and is so happy. Her exact words to us when she had been there for only a couple of weeks were “I feel like a queen nothing is too much trouble”. She now calls it home. Which after living in her own house for 68 years is amazing for us as a family. All the staff are so welcoming and friendly. My mum could not be in better hands!

My aunt recently moved into Alban Manor from another home where she was very unhappy, in tears every time I talked to her and not eating. Since moving into Alban Manor the difference in her is amazing. Because of the good food she is now eating and drinking and back to smiling and chatty like her old self. She comments on how lovely all the staff are and as an animal lover, visits from Roxy the dog make her day. My aunt's medical needs are being seen to and the staff always have time to discuss any concerns and keep you informed.

It is such a relief to know she is being well looked after and happy. All the staff are amazing and caring. Thank you, Alban Manor.

Alban Manor was recommended to me and I couldn't be happier. I don't think I would find a better home for my aunt to live in. She has been treated with the utmost care and respect, with great emphasis on her retaining her dignity. The communication has been fantastic, I've not been able to visit much due to covid and the admin team have gone above and beyond in keeping me updated, with photos and snippets of what she's taken part in and who she has made friends with. They act promptly in gaining information on my aunt that hasn't been provided by the hospital or GP and I feel nothing but absolute confidence in their ability to give my aunt the best care they can. I can't wait until their doors are open more freely so that I can enjoy spending more time with my aunt and become more involved with her new, safer and more stimulating life. Thank you!

I moved to Alban Manor after what should have been a short stay in hospital but ended up being 6 weeks. On discharge from hospital, I was unable to return to independent living and moved into Alban Manor. When I arrived, I had lost confidence, weight and the ability to walk unaided. With the care, compassion and patience of the Alban Manor staff, I can now walk with the use of a frame and have gained weight with the delicious hot meals and elevenses. My days are varied: walking, lightweight exercises, dominos, chess, watching films and participating in quizzes. I also enjoy quiet times reading the paper and chatting to my children on FaceTime. It was never my intention to move to a care home but I feel secure, cared for and safe here at Alban Manor.

My Mum has been in Alban Manor since June. It was a difficult decision to make bearing in mind the covid situation, but Mum needed the support of a nursing home due to her Parkinson’s and dementia. We have been so pleased with the care and support that Mum has received. She always appears happy in her surroundings and loves the food. The care home is a really caring and supportive community with a lovely, friendly team of staff. We have really appreciated that in addition to looking after my Mum so well, they also go to great lengths to take my Dad’s needs into consideration, ensuring that he has regular contact with Mum despite covid restrictions. They even baked and delivered an anniversary cake to him so that he could have a shared experience with my Mum on a video call. The management run the home very efficiently and keep us well informed about Mum’s care.

Alban Manor Nursing Home offers very attractive accommodation and facilities. We have found the staff to be welcoming and professional in their approach. The 'phone' is always answered promptly, and our requests dealt with efficiently. We receive regular email updates as to the many activities on offer etc, and residents are encouraged to participate in meetings as to improvements they would like to see. The home has implemented a strict regime re-Covid to keep all residents and staff well.

When my husband joined the Alban Manor community he was very poorly but thanks to the amazing standard of the care and love he has received, he has thrived and is enjoying a way of life we could have only imagined. It has been a very difficult time since March when we have had very limited access to visits. However, the staff have kept us fully informed of his condition, and any changes they have made to his care programme. When we were able to see him again, my sons and I were amazed at how well and happy he was. We know he is receiving the best care possible, and cannot begin to thank the staff enough for their dedication in ensuring that he remains safe and loved during these difficult times.

My sons and I look forward to when we will, once again, be able to make regular visits and renew our friendships with everyone at Alban Manor.

My mother became a resident at 92 years of age following a mild stroke. She was admitted during COVID lockdown and received excellent care and assistance dealing with her new environment and circumstances. Her medical care has been first class and she has settled well. We receive regular updates from the staff which in turn gives us the peace of mind knowing Mum is well cared for and happy.

My mother came to stay at Alban Manor for respite care during some home renovations. She was so well looked after and really enjoyed her stay. The surroundings were luxurious, the food was excellent and most importantly the staff were extremely kind and caring. My mother still talks about them now. She really enjoyed the activities programme including the bingo and yoga. It truly was a home away from home. Thank you, the matron and your team for making us all feel so welcome.

You get a clear idea of the efficiency of management at the family owned and run Alban Manor nursing home in St Albans from its reaction to the COVID-19 crisis. A full week before the government implemented its lockdown measures in March, management saw how much trouble was looming and put its own lockdown measures in place. This, among other things, involved banning all visitors and other non-essential people. At the same time, knowing how much this might distress some residents, management bought a number of tablet computers so that relatives and friends could at least see and talk to residents via Facetime. When the government eased some of the lockdown restrictions early in June, relatives were told this was not in line with scientific advice and the ban of visits was maintained. Consequently, at the time of writing there has been no case of COVID-19 in Alban Manor, where carers are encouraged to treat residents as if they are close and dear relatives.

This has been a challenging time for us all, but the support and trust we have had from you and all our families have really enabled us to take the early decisive action to keep everyone at Alban Manor safe. It has also enabled us all to become a bit more technologically savvy! I will be writing to all again this week with an update.
