Alban Manor is a family-owned nursing home, close to St. Albans town centre. Nursing staff are on site 24/7 and are supported by a team of skilled carers. The Windsor Suite, located on the ground floor, provides support for 37 people who need more help with everyday life, including help with physical care needs. The Balmoral Suite, on the first floor, provides support for 43 residents who may have a dementia type condition or other mental health needs.

All bedrooms are en-suite with a homely feel. Personal living space is important and residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms by bringing in small pieces of furniture, ornaments and pictures. All bedrooms have profiling hospital beds for comfort and ease of access.

At Alban Manor you will find a friendly community. There are beautiful communal lounges and dining spaces for residents to enjoy. These include the art deco film house and zen wellness centre. The activities team ensure there is plenty to fill the days. From yoga to bingo, gardening club, quizzes, music sessions and hairdressing and so much more. Plenty to join in or just to sit and watch, whatever mood takes you.

Food is nutritious and prepared on site by the chef and his team. Dietary requirements and special requests can be accommodated.

Care at Alban Manor is person-centred and residents, and their families, are actively involved in care planning. Here individual personalities are nurtured and respected.

My Mum, who has dementia, has been amazingly well looked after for the last two years by the Alban Manor team. At times, with her mood and anxiety, this has been very tricky to do, but the staff's professionalism and their ability to see past those times and see the person behind the illness, means
they see the Mum I know. When needed the team have been proactive for Mum or have taken time to just simply sit with her. Mum's needs have changed over the last two years and her care has reflected whatever she needs. I have peace of mind that Mum is well cared for. The question below about activities, is tricky to answer, as yes lots is put on for residents, but Mum isn't really able to partake of so much at this time.

Mum has been at Alban Manor for 6 months and has now settled very well. The care has been absolutely fantastic and we are very happy. All of the staff are very caring and I have complete peace of mind that Mum is well looked after. Thank you.

My father was transferred for nursing care of his dementia and orthopaedic injuries in early 2019 to Alban Manor. The care he received throughout his stay was faultless up to when died in late June 2022. The pandemic and its cruel restrictions meant we had to trust the home at the most vulnerable time
of our father’s life, and they repaid our trust with overwhelming care and respect. I am finding it hard to express in words how much we owe the people at the home - the receptionists, the nurses and auxiliaries, cooks, cleaners, managers, and owners. Thank you all, from me, my family, and on behalf of my father.

My mother was transferred from Basildon Hospital to Alban Manor as she was terminally ill and edging towards the end of her life and could not return home after a fall. This was funded by the CCG as I lived locally to Alban Manor and this meant she could be near me and I could visit daily and I could
stay with her daily and evenings until she passed away, after 2 weeks and 2 days. The Manager, Nurses, the reception staff and all the carers, HCA's are all absolutely wonderful and so kind. My mother was treated and cared for with the utmost dignity and respect and this was so important to her and us, as a family. This move from hospital enabled other family members to visit and spend time with her in her last two weeks of life. The staff supported me also emotionally and nothing was too much trouble. It is a happy place and the atmosphere is warm and friendly and so caring. The garden is a lovely place to sit, and the food is amazing. My mother had the best care she could have had at the end of her life.

Our Mum moved into Alban Manor Nursing Home July 21, she was very poorly and could no longer live independently in her own home, she was 94. Over the months Alban Manor became Home, the staff treated her as family, her health stabilised and she enjoyed the company and support that living in a nursing
home offered her. For years Mum had “coped” at home with the help of carers, but after a short time of moving into Alban Manor she became relaxed and peaceful in the knowledge that she was being well looked after and there was always someone to help her if she needed it. I and my siblings were with our Mum as she passed away, we witnessed the love the carers gave Mum in her final hours. They were respectful and emotional as they said goodbye to her while offering us support too. I know that everyone thinks they don’t want to “end up in a home”, but for Mum it gave her 8 months of really happy times and allowed us to step back from caring for her and spend quality time with her as her children.

My Dad moved into Alban Manor in June 2021 as his Alzheimer’s had become too much for my Mum to cope with and he needed 24-hour supervision. Dad settled in really quickly and seems happy there (which isn’t easy - he’s not known for being easy to please!). He’s not very sociable either but often times
when I go to see him he is sitting in the TV lounge with the other residents. It’s so nice to see him that way. From my perspective all staff there, from management to reception, to nurses and carers, they are always polite and friendly and know be by name (which can’t be easy with all relatives wearing masks). That’s one of the reasons I enjoy my regular visits, it’s nice to have a little chat about my Dad with the people who see him most! I know Dad can be difficult to deal with but they have managed to look after him without any complaints from him. He tells me he likes it there, the staff are nice and the food is good. I love him dearly and I know he is being well cared for.

My elderly Mother has been in Alban Manor for two and a half years. During this time, her health has deteriorated significantly, but at each step along the way, the care my Mum has received has been modified to better suit her needs. This has been done in consultation with my family. The Management
team are always willing to listen and welcome feedback. The Matron really cares about all the residents and leads the way in ensuring her team show compassion, respect and care at all times. The care home demonstrates strong family values - from the moment you walk in the door, you are greeted with a friendly welcome from the receptionist, and all the staff, regardless of role, are hard-working and friendly. Alban Manor has done everything it can during the pandemic to rise to the additional challenges and have kept the families of residents informed at all times. The team are always lovely to my Mum, for which my family are truly grateful. I have no hesitation in recommending Alban Manor.

I have found all the staff very friendly and helpful. My mother, who has Alzheimer's, has been very settled straight from arriving. The home keep me well informed and the care record book is very thorough on what she has done, eaten, and personal care.

My mother has been in the care home since December 2021. She is 92, spent several months in hospital after a serious fall which has left her fairly immobile and highlighted her failing health which is hard to take as she was totally independent before. She is now in Alban Manor on palliative care. Her
whole demeanour has changed since being in there. She had become hospitalised but now I feel I have my mum back, for however long. She is eating well, looks younger, and loves the carers looking after her. As someone said to me, no care home is perfect and compromises will have to be made but the staff at Alban Manor appear to try to make life as normal as possible. The hardest thing from my point of view is to let go of total responsibility for my mother but I have found on a few occasions that they do have my mother's back and they have listened to me.

In extremely trying times I am seeing real nursing care and compassion being given to my father who is suffering from the extremes of dementia and other issues. I am extremely happy that my father is being shown dignity with his issues and would highly recommend Alban Manor.

My mother moved into Alban Manor a few months ago and we have been very happy with the service and care that she has been getting. The staff are always friendly and do an excellent job, and even with the pandemic going on we have been able to visit as often as we want. My only complaint would be the
cost, but I think that applies to all the care homes around here: all-around care is obviously an expensive business.

Mum, who had advanced dementia, moved into Alban Manor Nursing Home in February this year following a heart attack, falls and a hospital stay making it impossible for her to remain in her own home. Mum’s short stay at Alban Manor turned out to be end of life care as she died in May in her sleep at the
age of 92. The care Mum received was excellent and personalised. The staff ensured Mum spent her days in the resident's lounge and Mum took great pleasure from the lively dog! Staff were warm, helpful and professional and responded quickly to questions and concerns, with the wellbeing of residents their priority. Alban Manor is well managed, and the staff know all the residents well. I am sorry that Covid measures meant I wasn’t able to share more of Mum’s life at Alban Manor, but thank everyone for looking after Mum.

An elderly friend who I used to look after is now in Alban Manor Nursing Home. They treat him with the friendship and dignity he deserves whilst ensuring his safety. My mother has been with Alban Manor Nursing Home for fifteen months now. The team there are experts with dementia patients, they know how to look after them with care, compassion and most of all with good cheer and enthusiasm. I can’t thank the time enough. They do a great job and keep us up to date

My mother has been at Alban Manor for the past two months and is so happy. Her exact words to us when she had been there for only a couple of weeks were “I feel like a queen nothing is too much trouble”. She now calls it home. Which after living in her own house for 68 years is amazing for us as a family.
All the staff are so welcoming and friendly. My mum could not be in better hands!

My aunt recently moved into Alban Manor from another home where she was very unhappy, in tears every time I talked to her and not eating. Since moving into Alban Manor the difference in her is amazing. Because of the good food she is now eating and drinking and back to smiling and chatty like her old
self. She comments on how lovely all the staff are and as an animal lover, visits from Roxy the dog make her day. My aunt's medical needs are being seen to and the staff always have time to discuss any concerns and keep you informed.
It is such a relief to know she is being well looked after and happy. All the staff are amazing and caring. Thank you, Alban Manor.
