You get a clear idea of the efficiency of management at the family owned and run Alban Manor nursing home in St Albans from its reaction to the COVID-19 crisis. A full week before the government implemented its lockdown measures in March, management saw how much trouble was looming and put its own lockdown measures in place. This, among other things, involved banning all visitors and other non-essential people. At the same time, knowing how much this might distress some residents, management bought a number of tablet computers so that relatives and friends could at least see and talk to residents via Facetime. When the government eased some of the lockdown restrictions early in June, relatives were told this was not in line with scientific advice and the ban of visits was maintained. Consequently, at the time of writing there has been no case of COVID-19 in Alban Manor, where carers are encouraged to treat residents as if they are close and dear relatives.

This has been a challenging time for us all, but the support and trust we have had from you and all our families have really enabled us to take the early decisive action to keep everyone at Alban Manor safe. It has also enabled us all to become a bit more technologically savvy! I will be writing to all again this week with an update.

I am writing this review after Alban Manor Nursing Home has provided a full year (20/06/2019) of outstanding care, service and, in my case, friendship in my wife's fight against the dreadful dementia illness.
In these difficult times, it is wonderful to sincerely believe and know that my wife is being looked after so well as are all others in their care.
I am updated regularly of any developments in relation to my wife's welfare and the weekly newsletter is circulated to my three children who reside around the world and who share my thanks and praise for their mother's care and well-being.
I thank all the staff and management team for their devotion and sacrifices and pray that their present Coronavirus free status remains.
I look forward to a time when daily personal visits will be allowed by the family to their loved ones.

Until that happens, thank you all at Alban Manor for a years devotion and care. It is much appreciated.

Thank you for your heartfelt feedback Graham. We do all miss seeing you at Alban Manor but are keeping spirits up in the meantime. We will continue to communicate regularly, and I will pass this feedback onto the staff who will be touched to know they are in your thoughts.

My 96-year-old mother has been a resident at Alban Manor for a year this month
We cannot find fault.
The care is not only of a very high standard but also carried out with good humour and genuine affection for the residents, creating a warm family atmosphere.
The activities are greatly enjoyed along with superb food and beautifully clean surroundings and a lovely garden.

My husband had had a couple of very successful respite weeks in Alban Manor. We as a family decided that he needed full-time care and did not hesitate to send him into the care of Alban Manor.

He is very settled and enjoying it especially, the food and the activities. It's good to know for me that the care he receives is second to none. It's sad that we can't visit but with Facebook I can see him and he seems very happy. Thank you for caring for him.

My mother moved into Alban Manor in June 2019, she has advanced dementia and has received the most wonderful care. Their professional and caring attitude meant the staff quickly identified her needs, likes, dislikes and her personality, so they are able to deliver a very tailored level of care which meant Mum settled in very quickly. As her needs have changed over the last year, the staff have always immediately adapted and keep you informed at all times. Mum is always relaxed and content when I visit, nothing is too much trouble and my father, who is not a resident, has very much been made to feel part of the Alban Manor family. At this time, when we are not able to visit Mum, I am so very grateful for the peace of mind that she is in the best possible hands. To me that is priceless.

My Mother spent 6 months at Alban Manor and from the time we viewed the Nursing Home, which had recently been completely refurbished to a very high standard, we found all the staff very friendly, compassionate and attentive. My mother's last 6 months were spent in an environment that was very comfortable, nothing was ever a problem and the facilities brilliant. She was always a fan of good food and had excellent culinary skills and apart from wanting cheese on toast, which I am sure could have been provided, she was never heard to make the slightest comment about the food other than it was great. Fabulous little garden too for residents and guests to sit in weather permitting. I can say when my time comes I would be chuffed to be a resident at Alban Manor.

My dad has been a resident at Alban Manor for the last 3 months. The welcome we both received after his transfer from hospital was second to none. And this continues to be the case. I am kept informed of his welfare and any health concerns. Above all else the nurses, carers and the manager are kind and caring and keen to make sure the residents are as happy as they can be. They are doing an incredible job which can be very rewarding but certainly very challenging at times too!

Utmost gratitude and respect to you all.

My Mother has been a resident of the nursing home for a number of months and I have been very impressed. The care my Mother has received is of the highest standard with an amazing group of staff who all go out of their way to help and care for the residents. The home is bright and airy and very well maintained. The home is located in a quiet area of St Albans with a lovely well-maintained garden for residents to use. The rooms are of a good size and well decorated with airy lounges and dining areas. I am so thankful that we found Alban Manor where my Mother is well cared for in safe, comfortable surroundings with an exceptional team of people looking after her.

We moved Mum to Alban Manor at the beginning of March for respite having moved her from another Care Home which we were not happy with. Initially Mum was due to stay one month but following the Coronavirus outbreak, we have extended her stay as we feel she is safer there. The home is lovely, light, bright and very modern. Beautiful garden for the residents to enjoy. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. We have weekly updates from the home and we frequently receive photos of Mum. We are able to talk to her or have video call links with her as often as we like.

We looked at 2 other homes in St Albans and Alban Manor was by far the best. I would highly recommend it.

Mum moved into the home last Autumn. Throughout her stay, the care has been excellent and Mum has been very well looked after. The staff are very welcoming to visitors and nothing is a problem. All questions are answered and I feel confident that she is in a safe and caring environment. If there are any changes to her condition, we are notified immediately. During the COVID-19 crises we have been unable to visit, but get regular updates on Mum and regular newsletters. Receiving photos is a delight. A huge thanks to all the staff for their care of my Mum.

The facilities and standard of the buildings and décor at Alban Manor match the friendliness and general approach of the staff - exemplary.
Our relative is receiving end of life care during Covid 19 lockdown which obviously makes the interaction between staff and resident all the more important. We are all devastated that we cannot visit, but the care, and I would go so far as to say, the love that has been shown to our relative have gone a long way to compensate for that.
Other more practical matters such as the quality of the food, assistance with phone calls, communication and updates, also fall into the exemplary box.

These are very difficult times, but we are relieved and grateful that our relative is in such good hands.

Thank you for choosing St Albans to set up a home for our community where you can be with your loved ones as part of a loving community where you know they are beautifully cared for, make friends and are able to truly live not just get by, with dignity and respect
To Nurses;
You didn’t just nurse mum and give her medication
You cared for her with love, dignity and respect
You watched for the little things, making sure she was comfortable
Checking on her sometimes many times in an hour, 24 hours a day
You are my heroes
You were there when I couldn’t be
And you held me too, supported me and cared for me.
To care team;
You were Mums friends when she couldn’t leave her room
You chatted to her
Made her laugh and feel special
You showed her pictures of your lives
You washed her, dressed her, positioned her
Maintained her dignity as a lady throughout

You were there for me too, you chatted to me and were so kind to me every day.

After a stay in hospital, we booked my dad into Alban Manor for a few weeks respite and convalescing. From the initial contact through to his admission and ongoing support we have all been truly delighted with the care, kindness, and level of service/support shown by every single member of staff. We extended his stay due to the Covid-19 outbreak and more recently my mother also moved into Alban Manor. She has also received a first-rate service and support from all the amazing team at Alban Manor. Thank You all.

My mother has been a resident at Alban Manor since early January and we cannot tell you how delighted we are as a family that we found this wonderfully caring and efficient place for her to spend her last phase of life.

Thanks to absolutely everyone concerned for the kind welcome and constant friendliness that we find every time we visit and for keeping my mother happy and content at 100 years and 8 months old!

On my first visit to the Manor, I was immediately impressed by the countless shrubs to both sides of the avenue that led to the nursing home and what a fine building the Manor is. The architects and interior designers have produced a splendid building that could be regarded as the best in the country. My wife spent the last few weeks of her life in the Manor and I was delighted with the way she was cared for. So I thank the managing director and staff for looking after her and in particular the nurses who supported me in my moment of fragility.

Finding a care home for a loved one is something I hoped I would never have to do, but sadly Dad is just too poorly for us to look after at home.
From the moment we stepped into Alban Manor we felt at home. The building is so bright and cheerful as are the staff.
I was particularly impressed with the interaction between all staff from the top down, they really do work as a team, listening to suggestions and working together.
My dad has only been there a week, but already has a rapport with the staff, he tells us that everyone is so lovely, nothing is ever too much trouble. The activity schedule complete with a film night is amazing. No-one is forced to do anything, just gently encouraged. The live music on Saturday was lovely, everyone tapping their feet to the songs.

A huge thank you from me for making this very difficult time, so much easier.
