Richmond Villages Willaston is a Specialist Dementia Village inspired by the Dutch 'household' model and is a sister village to Richmond Nantwich just a mile away. Richmond Villages Willaston is not solely a dementia care setting. Alongside the specialist households, outstanding residential, nursing, respite, palliative and end-of-life care is provided within the 35-bedroom care home, welcoming individuals with a wide range of needs

The Village has six ground floor households, each accommodating six residents (couples are welcome) and features generously sized en-suite bedrooms, many opening out onto secure outside gardens or patios. Each also has a shared lounge, kitchen and laundry with the care and support team known as Household Assistants, on hand to help residents with early-onset dementia to be as independent as possible for as long as possible.

The first floor houses a 35-bed care home for residents requiring more advanced dementia care; here the rooms are generous and have en-suite wet rooms. Many rooms have stunning views across the surrounding fields and countryside and on clear days Beeston Castle can be seen in the distance.

Residents have access to dining rooms and lounges whilst on sunnier days the secure roof gardens can be enjoyed by all.

The village facilities include an urban spa with treatment rooms, a nail bar, a hair salon as well as accessible landscaped gardens, sun terraces and a bistro/café bar. For younger visitors there is a playground to make visiting more exciting; well-behaved pets are also welcome (though it's asked that they are kept on leads).

All household and care home rooms are decorated by a team of specialist interior designers.

Richmond Willaston will be a central hub for Creating Dementia Friendly Nantwich and will strive to be part of both the immediate community of Willaston and those further afield.

Excellent care, meals very good staff, very nice and caring just a lovely care home. I can honestly say it's more like a hotel than a care home and that is a lovely thing about this, the staff are really lovely, they look after the residents with excellent care.

Richmond Villages provide a very good caring environment for my mother. Staff are welcoming and the vast majority show great patience with the dementia residents. The activities and outings are such a bonus. Visiting children are welcomed, as are therapy pets. These have such a positive impact on my
mother's mood; please keep welcoming them in!

I am so pleased with the choice of care home for Mum. All the staff that we meet are so friendly and helpful and seem to have an interest in Mum which is helping her to settle in her new home.
They have a caring and understanding attitude which is so reassuring as Mum was reluctant and fearful of a
change of environment. Mum is now enjoying much more sociable days, taking an interest in others and the activities that the home has to offer. It's all been a positive move.

Home second to none and care very good, I personally find the management and communication very much lacking. In 15 months of relative's residence, the manager has never introduced themselves to me. No introduction/induction was ever offered on taking up residence in the home. I was not routinely consulted
in my relative's care even though they have complex needs from multiple agencies. These things are important to the people responsible for the resident as the home acting with autonomy is alienating and unprofessional; I would have thought that any home should afford the next-of-kin the courtesy of communicating fully with regard to their loved one's needs and status. When my relative declined and needed to move to the higher dependency 'Care Floor' I was only called the day they wanted to move them. I would expect to be given more notice. Then again no introduction to any staff, how they worked, what to expect or given a point of contact; very hard in an end-of-life situation.
Reply from Michelle Barrett, Home Manager at Richmond Villages WillastonThank you very much for taking the time to leave a review. We are pleased to know you find the home and care to be second to none. However, we are very sorry to hear of your experience with communication from our management within the home. The experience of our residents and their loved ones is of the utmost importance to us and we are sorry if we have fallen short of our expected standards on this occasion. The Management team within the home and also the Regional team would welcome the opportunity to meet with you to discuss your concerns and be able to address them with you directly. Please contact us if this is something you would be willing to do. We want to be able to support however we can.

My father was a resident in the upstairs rooms as he had dementia and was not mobile last year after a period in hospital after a fall, he was 91 years old.
Although the surroundings are beautiful the care was a disgrace. Please think carefully before taking your loved one here. My dad had 13 falls
within 4 weeks of arriving and was eventually admitted back into hospital with severe dehydration. The hospital staff had mapped the many bruises he had and were shocked at his condition considering he had been admitted from a "care" home.
There were not enough staff and it was not unusual to wait for 20 minutes when we rang the bell if my dad wanted to use a toilet.
My dad then had palliative care at another care home in his last weeks and it was a different experience with staff who gave my dad his dignity.
Downstairs at Richmond may be a different experience if you do not have dementia and are mobile, they do not have the staff who can cope with dementia and use too many agency staff.
Reply from Michelle Barrett, Home Manager at Richmond Villages WillastonAt Richmond Villages Willaston the experience of all our residents and their loved ones is incredibly important to us. We are very focused on the level of ongoing training and support our care team receives and always strive to provide the highest standards of care. We are sorry that this was not reflected in your experience of our Village. We take all concerns raised very seriously and as an opportunity to learn and improve. When you raised your concerns to us in August 2023 we investigated and responded to you directly. We would be happy to follow this up with you again, and if this would be of any benefit please do contact us directly.

The staff here are extraordinary people. Life for the families of residents is uncertain, filled with doubts and fears about what future is left for loved ones. Everyone, from the friendly personal greeting at reception through cleaning staff, catering, carers and nursing to general management, goes
out of their way to make the whole experience as good as it can be. I would count them as friends, offering a shoulder to lean on when times are tough. Thank you all.

Dad is always nervous about leaving the family house especially as he is a wheelchair user. With mum being poorly he has come back for a couple of weeks of respite care. The care team at Richmond Village bring me close to tears with the amazing way they welcome and integrate Dad into the household.
Their attentiveness and friendliness to him is lovely to see.
On day one there was a very good singer/comedian in the main day room and on day two some miniature horses came to visit!
It’s a tough time for Dad being away from Mum and away from home, here though the support and care he gets allows the family to create the space needed for Mum to recuperate.

Mum was a resident in the households for 2 years before moving to the care floor in September 2024 as her health deteriorated and her care needs increased. Whilst it has taken some time getting used to the different care arrangements, I cannot fault the care that Mum receives and whilst at times she
can be difficult the staff are incredibly patient and caring and I know that Mum is being very well looked after. Her room is light and spacious and has a lovely view of the gardens and Mum enjoys spending her day sitting in her armchair and enjoying the view. Whilst Mum rarely participates in the activities she is constantly attended to in her room whether by carers carrying out their duties and chatting to Mum, staff offering drinks and bringing her meals and cleaners who maintain a high standard of cleanliness. Any questions, comments or issues I have regarding Mum's care are listened to and addressed and I can see that management are striving to continually improve.

I am so impressed with the standard of care given by the staff, who are professional, compassionate and really care about their clients.
One niggle is that sometimes getting through on the phone was not as easy as one would expect; however, that is a minor point when taking into account the really
excellent care provided to those in their care.

Mum was a resident in one of the households when she had a major stroke. The staff responded incredibly quickly and kept me informed about her needing to go to hospital. Unfortunately, she was discharged too early and experienced another stroke. The staff were caring and helpful in explaining why she
needed to go back into hospital (she was unable to swallow and was severely dehydrated) Mum was transferred into the care home easily so ensuring familiarity and making her less anxious She now has multiple needs and relies totally on the staff for everything.

My mum is a permanent resident at Richmond Villages, Willaston. I am so very happy with the care my Mum is receiving, all the staff are lovely and friendly and so supportive of Mum and her support needs; I do feel Mum is put at the centre of her own care. Everyone is treated as an individual. Her room
is lovely and spacious, all the facilities are outstanding, the food is amazing (especially the deserts!) and she often attends the entertainment that is regularly put on.
Moving Mum into care was extremely difficult and upsetting but it does make me feel so happy to hear my mum saying she now feels 'happy' and 'safe'.

My sister was quite young when she was diagnosed with dementia. I wanted to find a care home for her that would give her as much independence as possible and to be stimulated and have the opportunity to socialise. Willaston has been ideal for her care. The staff are friendly and do seem to care for
all of the residents and I’m convinced that my sister gets the best care possible for her.

I care for my husband who has dementia and this was the first time we had tried somewhere for respite. The place is very well laid out and welcoming. It looks like a lovely hotel which has really helped my husband accept it. The household design is perfect as the lounge and kitchen area is more like
home. The carers are lovely, so caring and there is plenty of staff. The outdoor area is lovely and the Woodland walk with the kids play area is great. He enjoyed the food and settled surprisingly well. It is a great relief and we will definitely use Richmond Villages Willaston again.

I am delighted that Mum is at Richmond Villages. She is receiving the very best care (second to none) from the wonderful care/nursing staff, who are very passionate about their role and the care they provide; they consistently go the "extra mile". It is clear to see that residents are treated as their
family and given lots of love/attention and TLC.
The environment is beautiful. Mum actually thinks she's on holiday in Torguay; she loves being here and has improved significantly.
Management are always readily available to support relatives and are very professional, efficient and welcoming.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.702)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.702) out of 10 for Richmond Villages Willaston is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 26 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.702 for Richmond Villages Willaston is calculated as follows: ( (257 Excellents x 5) + (31 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (9 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 309 Ratings = 4.702
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Richmond Villages Willaston is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 71 registered maximum number of service users is 14.2, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
