Mum has been a resident since December 2023, about 5 months now. Although she had said in the past that she never wanted to live in a care home she has settled in well and is very contented. Ouse View is much better than the image she had of a typical care home. It is purpose built which is to the benefit
of both the staff and residents. The staff are friendly and caring. Mum is safe and well looked after. She is now dressed everyday and even seen wearing nail varnish! On a recent visit, my daughters both said that she looked much better and was happier than she was before she moved to Ouse View. The social interactions are a real plus. Whenever I have visited I have never found Mum alone in her room. Instead, she is either in one of the lounges or more often in one of the daily activities. She particularly enjoys the regular singsong. It's very comforting to know that Mum is in a safe and caring environment. Keep up the good work.

I came today to take Mum for a walk and when we came back we watched the activity, had a cup of tea, it was just delightful to see how kind the staff were with the residents and how hard they work. It is a lovely environment for my mother to live in.

My father (who has mild dementia) entered Ouse View in early September 2023. He is happy here and regularly advises us he is very well looked after, which is all we want. The staff are fantastic, all very friendly and kind. I visit almost daily and see many staff interactions with other residents, not
just on my father's floor but also on the ground floor, and without exception, these have all been wonderfully dealt with. The food is very good, the rooms are of very good proportions, and the whole home is spotlessly kept. My father is kept clean and well dressed and encouraged to partake in the various activities, which he usually does, but, most importantly, my perception is that the staff care for the residents rather than just doing a job. My family and I are very reassured and satisfied that our father is in very good hands.

Professional, caring staff who constantly go above and beyond to fulfil perceived needs. The whole facility is immaculately clean and visitors are welcomed at all times. There are homemade cakes and hot drinks freely available for any guests along with separate toilet facilities in the corridor so that
guests do not have to use residents' toilets. The whole experience could not be faulted.

My mother is spending a couple of months having respite after a replacement shoulder operation. She is very pleased with both the standard of accommodation and the staff. If she has had any issues then they have been addressed quickly and to her satisfaction. She is enjoying her stay and I am happy
that she is in a very clean and safe environment with activities and helpful staff. We would both recommend Ouse View Care Home to others.

My mother who is 102 years of age lived alone in sheltered housing after having a fall in her flat. Mum decided she would like to go into Ouse View Care Home as a permanent resident. The care she receives is outstanding and she is very happy. The staff cannot do enough for her, and both my husband and
I think she is lucky to have found such a wonderful home. Mum sadly had another fall and has broken her left wrist, but we are seeing only the extra care and support with great kindness.

A plush residential dementia home but I would not class what they provide as care. It is transactional, a means for Barchester to turn a profit with challenges quickly passed onto the family.
Alarm bells should have started to ring during the first meeting when the focus was on the finances and contract.
Efforts to offer information about Mum were met with ‘it won’t be anything we haven’t seen before’ – a reassuring veneer to an institutional approach to care.
Despite the tense period of ‘probation’, Mum settled and we learned to accept the stiff, formal approach of the staff. Communication was poor, little information was provided except when it was bad news and then we were quickly made aware. The final straw was Ouse View informing us that they would be evicting Mum while she was in hospital, leaving her with nowhere to go.
Ouse View is a wonderfully appointed home that provides a façade of care across a narrow band of acceptable residents. I would not recommend it.
Reply from On behalf of the General Manager, Divisional Sales & Marketing Manager at Barchester Ouse View Care HomeThank you for your review and we are sorry to read that Ouse View did not meet your expectations. Ouse View is a residential home and we also specialise in dementia care, there are occasions when we do need to review our residents' care plan’s to ensure we can support their needs, sadly during this review we did advise you our home would no longer be able to support the needs of your mum and we suggested an alternative Barchester home who would be able to offer this. Please accept our apologies if you feel this was us evicting mum while she was in hospital and leaving her with nowhere to go, please be assured this was not the case, the welfare of our residents is our priority and ensuring your mum received the support required on discharge from hospital was at the front of our mind. We are sorry to read your lasting impression of your mum’s short stay with us not being of the high standard we provide, we really do value all feedback we receive.

My introduction to the Ouse View Care Home was instructed by m choice of care after my hip operation was approved. My items for use had already been taken to the care home for my short break. The care I received on entry to the care home was excellent. I found it a friendly place and I was introduced
to several nurses which I found difficult to identify visually. Also Celiac I need special food, to which the chef responded with care. These were also important items for me to access and the quality of the standard of this care home.

Having been a Lift Inspector for 27 years, before my retirement, I have visited 100's of installations in care homes and private hospitals nationwide. Ouse View is the most impressive care facility I have encountered. I cannot fault part of this establishment, which has superior standards throughout.
All the staff go about the duties, with impeccable professional standards, and without doubt, Ouse View continues to maintain levels of care that are worthy of being one of Barchesters leading care providers.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.798) out of 10 for Barchester Ouse View Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.798 for Barchester Ouse View Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (231 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (5 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 258 Ratings = 4.798
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Ouse View Care Home is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

When I’m not planning exciting events, you’ll find me running Pilates sessions, learning new things, or enjoying peaceful walks. I’m extremely excited to get stuck into this role and help make life at Ouse View vibrant, joyful, and full of unforgettable moments!
