My wife has resided at Dora Rose for one year now. Clare is living with Huntingtons disease and requires at times much patience and understanding. Its with all family members caring for loved ones in a nursing home environment it is essential to see evidence of that patience and understanding for loved
ones, and so we are happy to see in many of you that very often you do not just do your job but go above and beyond.
Reply from Julie Reade, CSE at Dora Rose Care HomeThank you for your review Simon. I will pass them on to all the care team involved in Claire's care. It is a pleasure to have stay here with us at Dora Rose.

It is difficult to give a tick box answer. I have ticked satisfactory, but this is unfair to staff who are good and excellent. Others let them down. My experience has been good, but could be better. I understand there is a problem with a shortage of staff in all care homes at present, and allow for
this when I should perhaps complain.
Reply from Julie Reade, CSE at Dora Rose Care HomeThank you for your comments. We staff the home to comply with CQC requirements against the number of residents we have in the home at one time. In future if you have any further comments/concerns please speak to a member of the management team or myself.

Resident complains of other residents wandering in and out of her room all the time. Contract states a lockable draws or cupboard should be available and isn't. Her TV remote is always not available to her and if it is we have to replace batteries and it goes. She complains that night staff do not answer
her bell when requiring toilet in the night. The staff generally are helpful and any request is dealt with well.
Reply from Julie Reade, CSE at Dora Rose Care HomeThank you for completing the review. I am sorry you have experienced these problems. I thought things would improve now that your sister has moved floors within the home. The rooms do have a lockable draws, keys need to be obtained for the nursing team or management. Any further issues can be discussed with myself or management.

Mum is receiving excellent care and I know that she is safe and content. The rooms and communal areas are well-designed and furnished. I am a little disappointed that some of Mum's nicer clothes have gone missing and also a pair of pearl earrings. Sometimes communication with Clare (manager) is slow
and sometimes messages are not passed on. Otherwise, I am very pleased.

Dora Rose is a lovely care home and the staff do really care for the residents. The atmosphere is very friendly and the home is always very clean and well-maintained. They arrange great entertainment for the residents, and the activities team are great. Mum really enjoys it. Everyone you meet at Dora
Rose has a smile on their face.

It is my pleasure to say that my recent stay in the care of Dora Rose proved to be a pleasant and productive experience. I went for 2 weeks R&R after spending time in hospital after collapsing at home. The care provided was of the highest standard. The staff were exemplary in the service provided and
the facilities available 1st class.

General change over last 12 months - recognised staffing issues - frequently new staff no badges no introductions to visitors so it's difficult to build any form of relationships.
General atmosphere of disinvestment. Sad to see this over the last couple of years
Reply from Julie Reade, CSE at Dora Rose Care HomeI'm sorry to hear you feel this way. We have appointed new staff to Dora Rose and they all have name badges issued, unfortunately sometimes their start date is prior to the badges arriving. Wearing their name badges is part of uniform policy and all staff are checked daily. We have a residents meeting on 18th November at 2pm should you wish to address any points further. Myself and Claire (home Manager) are also around in the home to discuss your points.

There are times when the home is short-staffed. Whilst we can understand the reasons, it is disappointing.
Overall, the staff are kind & do their best with service users suffering with dementia.
Frustrating loss of several pairs of expensive glasses.
Reply from Julie Reade, CSE at Dora Rose Care HomeThank you for your review. Regarding the missing glasses please can you bring this to the attention of our management team. Our staffing levels comply with the ratio required for our occupancy. Should you have any questions I am here 4 days a week.

If id have written this 12 months ago it would have been a very different review sadly it has rapidly been getting worse and worse, there is a large turn over of staff therefore you have very little continuity in care, simple little things that would make the residents life easier are missed, communication
is extremely poor and quite often not informed at all of meetings/events, a new app is currently being trialed but to very little success, the home is looking tired and in my relatives room a repair was made to a very poor standard, if this had been done in my own home i certainly wouldn't be paying the bill. The few original staff that remain are stretched thin but still manage to provide the best service possible for my mum. I would certainly advise a visit before deciding to use the home and where possible speak to those within the home and their relatives for an honest opinion.
Reply from Julie Reade, CSE at Dora Rose Care HomeMany thanks for your comments. At Dora Rose we have supported several staff to progress with their careers, which has meant we have recruited new staff in the positions available. Obviously this has taken time as at Dora Rose we aim to ensure the right staff are recruited safely to stop a high turnover of staff. All our units are currently staffed appropriately to the required levels to met the CQC requirements and needs of the residents. The refurbishment within the home is ongoing and continuous as not to cause too much disruption to the residents. The new app Altra is currently been used this allows all families access to the activity programme months ahead, and allows us to safely share images of your loved ones. Dora Rose opens an open door policy to the manager, deputy, administrator and CRM.

This "was" an amazing care home but it's sad to see how over the last 6+ months it's deteriorated not helped I'm sure by so many fabulous members of staff leaving. Communication with relatives is poor. Updates on family member is poor (not had anything for about 3 months now). Something is really not
right here. Very sad. I worry for the residents.
Reply from Julie Reade, CSE at Dora Rose Care HomeThank you for your comments. We can confirm that we have supported staff in their growth and development to move forward with their career choices into new roles that were not available at Dora Rose. All family members have been given access to the Altra platform, where all activities and photographs can be shared safely and securely with their loved ones. As always Dora Rose has an open door policy, where the manager, deputy and myself (CRE) are available to discuss any issues.

My wife became a resident here in December 2024, having spent the previous 4 years in a resident home suffering with vascular dementia. She and I have both worked hard to keep this dreadful condition at bay and have been largely successful. My daily visits benefit us both enormously and my wife will
be the first to say she is happy here, as am I. The staff cannot do enough for us and the home manager is quick to get involved if needed and is always available for advice. Dora Rose Care Home is a good place to be.

My mother's at the Dora Rose now and my father was there for his last 3 months in 2024. We had to rapidly learn about care homes in 2024, reviewed several and visited a few. We shed a tear when our parents got a place. It's always very clean. It's spacious and on Cannock Chase so good views / opportunities
for fresh air. The staff/resident ratio is very good, it has a nursing care floor as well as residential and dementia floors, the activities are simply incredible, and the quality of the staff, staff management, and their processes is first rate. Staff are friendly, motivated, know all the residents and genuinely care for them, whether that's safeguarding, nursing or entertaining. My mother is genuinely happy there, often dancing, enjoying visits from pantos and characters, boat trips and more. We know we're very fortunate to afford it, it's definitely in the higher cost bracket. Highly recommended.
Reply from Claire Hayward, Manager at Dora Rose Care HomeThank you for your review, and your kind words, it's always a pleasure that our residents and family members our happy with service provided. The management and staff teams take pride in knowing residents and families likes and dislikes and continue to support a happy and fulfilled life.

My 84 year old father has been a resident at Dora Rose care home for almost 4 years and says he is really happy there. He is bed-bound and has difficulties with his memory. The Activities team have made a considerable difference to him and he now has some enjoyment in life. The Activities team has
frequently arranged for video calls, so that we can share family news and mark occasions. His quiet presence during these calls allows us to see that my father is in a comfortable, caring environment.

The Activities Manager has a connection to my father and spends time with him to make his life better. For example, he arranged for the purchase of an internet speaker, so that dad could listen to some of the music from his past. He also recently made contact with a cousin of dad's and facilitated a telephone call so that they could catch up after many years. All in all, I get the impression that the Activities team take the time; put in the effort to help residents enjoy life in care as much as is possible.

To the Activities Co-ordinator, I just wanted to say thank you for all you did to support mum. Everything that you do and organise at Dora Rose, along with your team, is amazing and the residents as well as the management team are very lucky to have you. We have not seen anywhere else offer the range
of activities that you arrange and organise. You should be very proud of all your hard work. To all the carers, thank you for your kind, compassionate and genuine support during the time mum was living at Dora Rose, she was very well looked after and treated with dignity throughout her stay.

The entire staff is wonderful! The receptionists were kind and caring offering 100% help. During a tour by the manager to see if my sister would like to stay at Dora Rose, my sister's daughter, two sons and most importantly my sister would be staying at Dora Rose (if she would like to) were shown everywhere.
We met the Matron/Head Nurse of the area where my sister would be staying, the room reserved for her is lovely with a private wet room. We met carers who took us to the spacious dining room and the other areas. We met the entertainment co-ordinator and staff who looked after us and gave us programmes of forthcome events. After a tour of Dora Rose during a cup of tea and biscuits my sister decided she would like to stay, and has been looked after wonderfully by the Head Nurse and her team. The meals are excellent, laundry service. Everything is top-class. Amazing entertainment. Dora Rose is situated on a very beautiful site the building is modern and new the gardens are lovely. I would be happy to live there myself. Customer satisfaction 20/10 Top Class.

Yet another outstanding weekend for the residents and visitors to the Dora Rose Care Home.
On Saturday evening there was a cheese and wine party with singers to entertain those present. The catering staff produced a buffet which wanted for nothing, a large variety of cheeses, biscuits, crackers, some
fruit all stylishly presented in a tempting setting.
The singer(s) were an act who has appeared at Dora Rose on many previous occasions and was back by popular demand and entertained the audience with a selection of popular songs which were well received.
Sunday afternoon was another success with dozens of residents and visitors sat in the nicely presented and extensive gardens entertained by a local Christian charity band playing cheerful tunes to match the happy atmosphere and fine weather.
The weekend really has to be a feather in the activities team hat.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.428)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.428) out of 10 for Dora Rose Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 27 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.428 for Dora Rose Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (204 Excellents x 5) + (70 Goods x 4) + (28 Satisfactorys x 3) + (15 Poors x 2) + (3 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 320 Ratings = 4.428
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Dora Rose Care Home is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 71 registered maximum number of service users is 14.2, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I’m Julie, and I live in Tamworth. I am the owner of a 15-year-old tortie cat, Chrystal. She was a rescue cat at 6 months old. I love animals, and due to this, I am heavily involved in fundraising for a local animal rescue charity. I help organise fundraising events, support with cat homing visits and help with the transportation of donations to various local animal charities.

I was a holiday rep with Thomas Cook for 10 years. I have worked in many countries across the Mediterranean, Spain, Italy and Greece, to name a few. I have done a variety of roles working abroad, everything from looking after children in a kids club to taking adults on a bar crawl and meet/greet at the airport. This was a job I loved, as every 6-8 months I could change destination, and it inspired my love of travelling. Now that I live back in the UK, I look forward to my holidays and always look for new experiences or new destinations.

I have worked in the care industry for the last 15 years. I started in Domiciliary care before going to work at Good Hope Hospital for 9 years. I worked in a variety of departments, which I loved and learnt so much. I have since worked in areas involving Challenging behaviour, mental health and specialist Dementia nursing homes.

I am proud to be working at Macc Care and looking forward to the new challenges ahead, as well as meeting loads more new people.

I'm fairly new to Dora Rose Care Home, but I am loving it. It's so peaceful being right in the heart of Cannock Chase. The people are lovely.

I would say I like cooking, but my husband is a chef, so he does it all. I am a foodie.

I like watching movies with my husband, and love music of all kinds. My utmost love is Cornwall. We go there every year. One day I would like to move there.

I am proud to say that I have worked for West Midlands Ambulance Service for 7 years as a 999 Health Advisor, plus 2 years at NHS 111 Service, also as a Health Advisor. I have many years’ experience in Customer Service Roles.
