Brook House Care Home were delighted to be awarded ‘Best Innovation and Environmental’ in the prestigious Pinders 2022 Healthcare Design Awards.

Safety and comfort are a foremost concern, so all rooms are fitted with a nurse call system and acoustic monitoring for residents' peace of mind. As well as improving quality of sleep, acoustic monitoring can help to reduce the risk of falls. My mum has recently moved into Brook House after becoming very lonely and anxious in her own home. The building is lovely, very well designed and beautifully decorated, there is a full activity schedule too which was important to us. The staff make a strong effort to get to know residents, relatives
and friends and we always feel welcome when we visit. The Bistro is a lovely area which makes visits more enjoyable, especially with children!
As with most homes at the moment, I feel there is a shortage of staff which does present difficulties, especially in the evenings. Many dementia patients become anxious after dinner and I know mum gets very frustrated when there is no one around to call on for assistance.
It's early days for us so we've not had any regular meetings or feedback but the staff do tell us how mum is doing when we see them. I'd give a special mention to the lady in reception who is absolutely lovely to residents and visitors, she is doing a fantastic job.

The most important aspect is the staffing, everyone seems friendly and welcoming. The staff clearly care for the residents with love and compassion and do their best to serve all their needs, whether social, domestic, emotional or medical. The whole environment of the home is pleasant and attractive.
All areas are clean and well-cared for. The communal areas are comfortable and more the standard one might expect, in a decent hotel. Although my experience is limited, the evidence points to good quality cuisine throughout. It also seems that the home provides a wide range of activities and leisure opportunities for the residents, which are well-received. My only negative observations are, there have been times when I have wondered if the home is somewhat understaffed and the car parking is cramped and limited. Note that my star-ratings should be prefixed with 'as far as I am aware.'

My observation is over a few weeks. I understand that being short-staffed plays a huge part in some of these.
Lack of communication to myself and siblings regarding mum's health requirements and actions/documented.
Fluctuations in meal times.
Food quality, assortment, quantity, bland.
Better observation
required around the dining and kitchen due to the odd patient helping themselves, like a buffet and returning the food too, unnoticed.
Cleanliness of room, under bed, dead flowers in vase left on side.
I actually took my vacuum in to clean one evening.

His care was very good. The manager of the home was very approachable. Kept us up to date with regular meetings. Staff very caring and looked after him very well. He settled in after a few weeks and became fond of the staff as they also became fond of him. We hoped he had found his forever home.
However,
in June the manager left (the day the CQC inspected) and the meetings ceased. We were then dismayed to be asked to a meeting with a representative from head office and handed a letter giving us 4 weeks to move him out! No explanation was given. We were not given any help or advice. He'd had a couple of altercations with other residents which had become physical. This is not unusual in people with dementia. Several residents have similar problems but Brook House seems not to have enough staff to cope.
Finally, when he left there were no proper handover documents ready for the new home. No care plans or list of medications were provided.
So sorry he had to leave but glad he is somewhere he can stay.

I have had a very positive experience with Brook House since speaking to the customer relations advisor to enquire about moving my father in and during the preparation phase, moving day and his ongoing care since moving in. The home is very modern and clean, with really great features - dining rooms,
lounges (with and without TVs), a hairdresser and an activity room. The Bistro cafe is great for having a drink with my father, and the garden courtyard is very peaceful, with comfortable seats and parasols if it is sunny. The staff are friendly and genuinely caring and, after regular visits, feel more like friends than members of staff. All of my questions have been answered, and my suggestions have been listened to and acted on wherever possible. I feel very relieved that I have found such a lovely place for my father to live in with staff that I can totally trust.

Since being a resident, I am feeling like myself again! Relaxation is back in my frame and feel I can hold a conversation once more. The major missing link in my life was my dear husband passing away. The staff at the care home are a big help, even the smallest of help is there from them, gets through
and helps.

I thoroughly enjoy my respite stays at Brook House and always look forward to returning. The staff are all so lovely and work really hard to look after us well. There is always lots going on and people to talk to and the food is very good. I meet with the chef who works out with me what I like to eat
during my stay here and they buy it in especially for me if they haven't got it. My room is also lovely, with great views over the front of the building and they give me the same room each time I return, for me it's like going on holiday.

My dear friend has recently taken up residence in Brook House as he is no longer able to look after himself at home. From my first visit I was immediately struck by the professional and friendly attitude of the staff who are a credit to their profession. The home is immaculate and has lots of quiet
seating areas for those who want peace and quiet. The home is extremely well laid out and the bistro in the reception area is inspired - the coffee is lovely too. The menu is to die for and my friend is looking much more healthy now that he is eating regularly - we are looking forward to booking the private dining area at some point so that a few of his friends and family can join him for Sunday lunch! Overall I couldn't be happier that he is at Brook House - he is in a safe environment and thinks he is staying in a hotel - what better testament to the facilities and attitude of the staff.

After visiting the home a number of times, I’ve found it to be one of the best I have been to. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The facilities are to a very high standard. It’s bright, welcoming and exceptionally clean. The residents and staff alike seem very happy and relaxed.

From the first contact with the home, I spoke to a lady, who has made this decision for my uncle to be placed in care so much easier, My uncle loves it, he’s so happy, and that puts my mind at ease knowing he’s happy and well looked after.

My Dad currently lives at home with me but recently stayed at Brook House for respite care when I went on a much needed holiday. From my initial enquiry, the staff at Brook House were caring, informative, extremely welcoming and put my mind at rest that he would be well cared for during his stay. The
facilities are beautiful, the staff are lovely and Dad was really happy with his two-week holiday and is very keen to go back for another stay later this year. It is such a relief to know that I can go away and know he will be well cared for at Brook House.

From the first time I had contact with Brook House, I was impressed by their friendly, caring attitude. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The home is beautiful and well equipped. After having a negative experience with another care home I was relieved to find such a lovely place.

Brook House is beautifully bright and has a cosy feel. All the furniture and fittings are of a very high standard and having enjoyed several lunches with my partner I can confirm how good the food is. My partner is obviously so much happier and settled and I have stopped having sleepless nights worrying
about him. All the staff are very friendly and don’t rush him when he is trying to explain something. He has a new ‘best friend’ who shares his taste in music. The precautions taken against Covid when I visit are very thorough which is reassuring. I would not hesitate in recommending it to anyone.

Brook House has made such a difference to my mum. She has been really well looked after and cared for. The staff take a strong personal interest in mum and she has come to treat them like friends and family. The home is really well set up and has high standards in all areas. Highly recommended!

What a beautiful home. I visited my lovely friend and I had a lovely welcome to the home and was reassured that all precautions had been taken to ensure we were safe from any threat of Covid. Fabulous hospitality and I could clearly see how much happier my friend is in a home enjoying the fun activities

“One of the best things about my job is knowing that our residents are living their best life, seeing their smiles, and knowing we are looking after them.


I strive for continuous improvement and like to be hands-on and involved in the day-to-day care. I maintain good communication with my team, residents and families and feel that it is important to get to know everyone. I also like to have good community engagement, as it is important that our home is part of our local community.


Everything we do at Brook House is from the heart and it is not a job, but a passion. We are building a home together – team and residents.
