My husband has regular respite stays at Abbots Wood Manor.
It means such a lot to know that he will be well looked after and that he is happy to go. I am able to have a break knowing that all will be well.
All the staff are very caring. My husband is treated with dignity and respect. His individual
needs and wants are met. He is encouraged to keep up with all his interests inside and outside of the home.
The home is always clean and tidy but also has a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
His bedroom is of a high quality as are the surrounding areas.
As a family, we are grateful that we found Abbots Wood Manor.

My mother moved into Abbots Wood Manor in October, due to increasing needs with her care and mobility issues. She had already stayed for three weeks respite care a couple of years beforehand and was very happy, so when it came to the time for her to permanently move, it seemed obvious to look at it
again. I looked at various homes and this one still shone above the rest. The atmosphere in the home is so friendly and welcoming, happy and caring. Most importantly my mother is very happy and settled. She loves the food. The staff are very attentive and always keep me informed of any concerns that they may have about her. They are also very inclusive to the families, with various events organised to be together. It is clean and her room is a good size with a lovely patio garden just for her. There are activities put on every day and excursions.
Overall, I am relieved to know that my mother is happy, safe, monitored regularly and well looked after.

I feel that Abbots Wood Manor is an excellent Care Home. My friend has been there for nearly two years, she is very settled and happy there. The staff are exceptionally kind and caring and look after her very well. There is a wonderful variety of stimulating activities available too.
Visitors are made
to feel welcome and there are several occasions for us to participate, for example , the Garden Party and Christmas lights switch on.The home has a great, homely atmosphere and I am confident that my friend could not be in a better place.

I visit my brother at Abbots Wood Manor every week, and as always, all the staff are very friendly and helpful. The home is always very clean and tidy, and my brother's room is always clean and comfortable, and he always looks well cared for and happy. There is a range of activities he can take part
in if he wants to. There are a variety many for meals and the food is excellent. When I leave him, I know I don't have to worry because all his needs will be taken care of. I can't think of a better place for him to be.

Abbots Wood provides a comfortable living space for its residents, and much effort is taken by staff to ensure that it maintains a 'homely' feel. I have been pleased to see the enhancements to planting in the garden and outdoor areas this summer as they are extremely popular with residents and provide
great options during visits. Social engagement and activities were important criteria in our choice of care home and those on offer are extensive and varied. It is great to see the enthusiastic participation of staff in all pursuits. My mum is passionate about music, and this is very well catered for. Every staff member that I have encountered has been kind and caring and demonstrated a respect for the individual needs of the residents under their supervision. It is extremely reassuring to observe the relationships and mutual trust that exist. I am pleased that we have found a safe and supportive environment for my mum with a keen sense of community and inclusivity.

At the time of her admission to Abbots Wood Manor, my very frail 89-year-old mother had been bedbound for five months, these five months having been spent mainly in hospital plus a few weeks in another care home.
Within days of arriving at Abbots Wood Manor, she was enjoying short daily breaks in
an armchair. Staff told me that the first time they did it, a beaming smile spread across mother's face on realising that she had been placed in a chair.
In subsequent weeks she progressed to being dressed and taken to the dining room for her dinner. I could hardly believe it when I was asked to bring her clothes in! The carers are very kind and patient with mother and are prepared to invest however long it takes to facilitate these little excursions from her bed and from her room.
Rooms are spacious. Food and drink is excellent, with mother's intake being so much better since her arrival at Abbots Wood Manor.
All staff are very accessible and approachable.

My dad has been a resident at Abbots Wood Manor since October 2023. The care, communication, food, activities and staff are amazing, we couldn’t be happier with the care he’s receiving. A huge highlight is the weekly activities and outings that Abbots Wood provides, in particular he enjoyed the trip
to the garden centre. We can’t thank them enough for the support we have all received in this time of transition.

My mother-in-law is currently in Abbots Wood Manor. Since arriving at the home she has become so much less anxious, she is relaxed and happy. The staff are so kind, caring, friendly and professional. There are always daily activities for the residents to get involved in. My mother-in-law has been out
for an afternoon tea, which was great for her confidence. Nothing is too much trouble. We also love the bistro, the coffee is great and it’s such a lovely place to meet up socially and it doesn’t feel at all like a hospital or clinical. The private lounges are also so lovely to sit quietly and play board games.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.915)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.915) out of 10 for Abbots Wood Manor Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.990 for Abbots Wood Manor Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (200 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 202 Ratings = 4.99
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.925 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbots Wood Manor Care Home is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 17 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
