I was very disappointed with Mossdale Residence.
My relative had a severe infection that was not picked up by staff at this Residency.
There were several occasions when vulnerable residents were left unsupervised.
Despite providing staff with a detailed daily routine, staff did not pay any attention
to it.
Paperwork was lost relating to my relative should an emergency occur.
The best action I took was to remove my relative from this home.

Thank you for taking the time to leave this review. We recognise that it is a difficult time when a family member enters a care home, especially when they wish to remain in their own home, it was positive that your family member’s wishes were able to be met and he was able to return to his home, with support, after a short stay at Mossdale Residence. We meet with all our prospective residents and their families and complete an assessment to determine if Mossdale Residence can safely meet all the care needs, prior to offering a placement. Our staffing levels are based on the dependencies of the people living with us and we discuss those levels at the point of enquiry. We also encourage family members looking for a care home to share their expectations for the level of care they would like at that time, so that both parties can be confident that what is expected can be achieved. We work closely with our GP surgery and recommend that all residents are registered with that surgery, they conduct weekly ward rounds and we also are supported 24 hours a day by trained clinicians through the Telemedicines service. We contacted Telemedicines when your family member became unwell and they arranged for observation and assessment in the home, rather than immediate referral to hospital. We worked closely with the clinicians involved until it was determined by them that admission to hospital would be needed. You mention lost paperwork, on this occasion we were not made aware that the paperwork was in place at the time of the assessment, on admission or by the GP – clearly this has caused you concern and we do apologise for that. We have shared our learning from your feedback with our team. We hope that our residents and their families feel comfortable to discuss any concerns as they arise, either on an individual basis with the Home Manager, via our Residents’ Committee or at our regular Resident and Relative Meetings.

Mossdale is a wonderful home. Very clean and polite staff. Residents are well looked after. This nursing home provides good care and support to all residents with specific conditions or different types of disabilities who struggle significantly with daily life and need the added support. This care home
prioritises the physical, emotional and social needs of its residents in which they offer a safe and clean comfortable environment with trained staff.

Pleased overall and the majority of carers are excellent but too few of them. Mossdale definitely needs more carers. Room for improvement with food. Due to the age of residents, meals should be more normal and every day eg. As they would be familiar with, not fancy.

My mum came to Mossdale in late October 2022, she moved in from hospital. There were a few issues to settle her down. The staff have worked hard to help Mum settle, she is very happy there. The senior staff are very kind and good.
My biggest complaint is the high turnover of staff (staff retention).
I would recommend Mossdale.

Having visited a few nursing homes when looking for my dad, Mossdale shone through when it came down to being the most compassionate and caring. Since Dad arrived in November, his care has been second to none, and I can now sleep at night knowing that Dad is safe and comfortable and all his needs are
being met. All staff working at Mossdale offer a first-class service to both Dad and the family, and I know I made the right decision when choosing Mossdale for Dad's nursing care. Thank you all; you're all amazing.

I can honestly say I am blown away by the care and compassion of each and every member of staff I have had the privilege of speaking to since my father has moved into Mossdale Residence. In such a short time, he has become my dad again. So clean, so healthy and has gained some independence back.

The care/nursing staff at Mossdale Residence are outstanding and do all they can to accommodate any concerns you have. Mum is well cared for which is a comfort for us. Access to the home is much improved due to the recruitment of a new reception team, who also staff the cafe/bar area which is fantastic
and offers the residents a change of scenery and views of the garden. I do feel that the staff levels are still on the low side which causes pressure on the existing hard-working team. The areas I feel could improve is Mum's clothes don’t get changed as often as I would like, I usually do this myself when I visit as her clothes are often dirty. I also don’t think that she is bathed as regularly as she should be. I’m sure this is due to staffing problems and possibly my mum's reluctance to comply! More activities would be welcome too. Overall though this is a positive review and would highly recommend Mossdale, the positives definitely outweigh the negatives.

I am pleased to learn that your overall experience is positive, however I note your feedback about the challenges you find with your Mum's personal care at times. The journey living with Dementia is different for everyone, we have selected our care team with this in mind and are excited that many new colleagues have recently joined us in 2023, strengthening the care teams in our Nursing, Residential and Memory Care Communities. HC-One is also pleased to offer staff working at Mossdale Residence dedicated Dementia Training, in addition to the initial induction training and general training delivered within HC-One. Mossdale staff also work closely with other agencies in York including the Care Home and Dementia Team to develop support plans for our residents as new needs are identified. We are always keen to hear your feedback and the Home Manager would be pleased to meet with you if you would like to discuss your experiences and feedback further.

The staff at Mossdale are brilliant. They look after my mother with kindness and dignity. The staff are always willing to talk to me should I have any concerns regarding my mothers well being. The food is really good and plentiful. Thank you everyone at Mossdale.

Every person is very friendly and helpful and the support for all family is excellent, service is really good. Weekends are sometimes difficult to get entry as staff on reception are only Monday-Friday. The staff in the kitchen are helpful at these times. Thank you for all the attention you give.
