Exceptionally cheerful and encouraging staff. Occasional minor glitches, usually coinciding with changes in shifts, but nothing out of the ordinary for any care organisation. Otherwise, always helpful and expeditious. Food excellent in industrial quantity.

My father has been living at Crandon Springs since February. The staff very friendly, caring and he is well looked after. There is a good choice of freshly cooked meals on the menu, also a cafe area which can be used by the residents and guests. I would recommend Crandon Springs to anyone who is looking
care home.

Lovely to see Granny looking so happy and well cared for by all the care staff and the chefs for providing all that she asks for. The food is very nutritious and the chefs are very helpful. Also, I noticed a birthday cake was made for one of the residents, which I thought was a nice touch.

I have always found the staff kind and helpful whenever I have visited the home and I believer that my mother is being very well cared for. I appreciate the cups of tea that you are offered when I come to see my mother. I think that the carers provide comfort and reassurance when my mother requires
it. The standard of the food and hygiene appears to be high and my mother's general health, as a result, is good. Overall the standard of care is good.

Mum stayed for 2 weeks respite at Crandon Springs and has already declared that she is happy to go back. She enjoyed the activities as well as the food, the staff are all lovely and very caring. The process of booking her in was very easy and straightforward, and I am very relieved to have found
somewhere I know that Mum is happy to stay and willing to go to.

My Mum moved into Crandon Springs on the 18th of October. The support and service we have had from all staff from the very first contact with the Home Service Adviser to her moving in and beyond have been exceptional. The assessment process to ensure that Crandon Springs could meet her needs was thorough,
she was able to visit and was well supported to be provided with will all the information she needed, without overwhelming her. Myself and my sister had a longer tour and time to talk to the team. I must admit it all sounded so good I was a bit sceptical that they would be able to deliver on their promises – they have and exceeded them.
Mum had been living in another care home for a year and in this time her physical and emotional health had deteriorated. Since being at Crandon Springs Mum has become more physically fit, it is easier for her to walk around and get exercise, and she is beginning to put on weight, thanks to the wonderful food. The staff at Crandon springs are supporting her to make friends.

My mother went to Crandon Springs for two weeks respite following a long stay in hospital. She was made to feel very welcome by both staff and residents. The accommodation was excellent in the bedrooms and the public spaces and she very much enjoyed the gardens and the fact that she had direct access
to them from her room. It was the perfect step down from the hospital to allow my mother to improve her mobility and build confidence. Overall the care was excellent throughout. There were some service inconsistencies which we believe are probably due to staff shortages. For example some days the bathroom was not serviced and food quality was variable.
Reply from Natalie Deverall, General Manager at Barchester Crandon Springs Care HomeThank you very much for taking the time to review our service here at Crandon Springs. We are glad your mother found our care excellent and enjoyed our surroundings, we would look forward to seeing you again soon. Since your mother's visit, we have held a resident food meeting, our new autumn/winter menu has been designed around our existing resident's desires. We would welcome you in to try our new menu when you are next passing.

The premises are first class and all the staff have been extremely kind and helpful. They have cared for the resident as I would expect to be treated myself from the first day he arrived even though some days have been quite challenging. The food always looks great and as he has a good appetite there's
plenty of it. Nothing seems to be too much trouble and I hope this continues.

We are very pleased with the choice of Crandon Springs for mum's care home. She seems to be very happy there and has made a number of friends in a short time. It was obviously a very difficult decision for us all to make on mum's behalf, as she was so keen to stay at home for as long as possible, but
the transfer to CS was very smooth and we were well assisted by the staff at the home. We are relieved that she is safe and happy and being well looked after and the staff have been particularly helpful during a difficult time for us all.

My parents moved into Crandon Springs shortly after it opened in April, and I have nothing but praise and admiration for the staff team. Nothing phases them, and the care they have given to a couple, one of whom is suffering from dementia is, in my opinion exemplary. The initial visit, registration,
and moving in process were really easy, relieving pressure at a time of high stress for the whole family. The facilities at Crandon are excellent, and it is a lovely environment for the residents, with meticulous standards being maintained throughout. There is a constant flow of activities that they both join in with and enjoy, both when mixing with other residents or on a one-to-one basis. The Management Team is very ' hands-on', getting involved with the residents, and the care, activities, and support staff are also exceptional! I would not hesitate to recommend Crandon Springs to anyone who was looking for the best care for themselves or their loved ones.

My father moved in a couple of weeks ago. He was able to choose his own room. It is beautifully furnished, with a lovely wet room bathroom and a smart TV. He has a lovely patio area outside his flat which looks onto the garden.
The home is fresh and brand new, like a hotel. There is a lovely cafe
area as you go in the residence where you can sit.
I have found all the staff to be obliging and caring. My father seems very content and he loves the food. He had joined in some of the activities that the home offers also.
I hope this home goes from strength and it will be lovely to see it bustling when more people take up residence.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.659)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.659) out of 10 for Barchester Crandon Springs Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 28 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.659 for Barchester Crandon Springs Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (234 Excellents x 5) + (70 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 320 Ratings = 4.659
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Crandon Springs Care Home is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
