Two weeks of respite care to overcome the after effects of a fall down the stairs. The management bent over backward to speed up her admission to the care home. Thanks go to all the staff for their friendly, caring, and supportive nature during the stay. Care has been excellent. One consideration that might be improved would be guidance around building. Corridors are very similar and easy to get lost.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your comments with us, I will make sure these are fed back to our team. We will also look into your feedback concerning guidance around the building. We hope your Mum is doing well and wish your family all the very best.
Mum's care plan was not followed. We had a number of day to day issues which were never really rectified. E.g. not ensuring that incontinence pads were always available in mum's bathroom, unwanted use of male carers delivering personal care, despite all clothes being labelled clothes would go missing, loss of personal effects not investigated, other residents support stockings would be used.
Since April there have been continuous changes in management and significant over use of agency staff to the detriment of the facility and its residents. Different managers have consistently promised improvements which never materialised.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We value all feedback as it helps us continually improve. We are sorry that you and your sibling didn't have the same positive experience as some of our previous reviewers. I can confirm that we wrote to you recently to address the specific...
During the last six months numerous management changes, at both the home and area level resulted in inconsistent communication and care levels. Overuse of agency staff is another issue. No family meetings took place. Mums care plan was compromised; use of male carers for personal care, male incontinence pads used, labelled clothes missing and use of other residents underwear. Sent to hospital in the evening wearing only a cotton nightgown. Mum waited 15mins outside on a trolley on one return from the hospital then had no hand over. Its very difficult to access this home on evenings/weekends, no one responds to the door bell. Regular promised improvements never transpired!
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We value all feedback as it helps us continually improve. I know we have spoken about your concerns since your review and I would welcome the opportunity for us to sit down and discuss further any issues that you may feel are outstanding.
I am sending my gratitude to all the wonderful team at Shoemaker Place. You now care for two very special family members. From the lovely new manager to the happy cleaners, you are all truly wonderful. Thank you very much for all your hard work and support.
This is the second time I have placed my husband in Shoemaker Place for respite care. I find the staff and the care given is excellent. They treat my husband with respect and dignity as he has Dementia and Parkinson's. I would highly recommend Shoemaker Place.
Kind Regards,
Team Shoemaker.

The care, love and attention from the staff at Shoemaker Place is first class. She feels safe and is well looked after. As a family, we are so glad that she is safe. We cannot thank everybody here for all they do for her. Well-fed, good activities and things to do all help. Many thanks.
Kind Regards
Team Shoemaker
My dear friend, like a mum to me was one of the first residents. Care and dignity are provided so highly by all staff in all roles. The atmosphere is calm and the surroundings, and furnishings are beautiful. Visitors are always welcomed in a friendly way. The food and snacks are delicious and visitors are invited to share meals if needed. Activities are varied and the local community visits, schools and entertainers, are so nice. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend any friends or family members. Certainly promising to become one of the best care homes in this local area.
Thank you for the lovely review, it's so nice to read about all the positive experiences our residents and families are having.
Kind regards,
Team Shoemaker.
I can't thank the staff at Shoemaker Place Care Home enough for the lengths they went to to accommodate our requirements at very short notice in extremely difficult circumstances. My mother, who suffers from Alzheimer's, lives alone with her dog and was recovering from a broken hip, suffered a fire at her bungalow that ended up rendering it uninhabitable for more than four months. I live around 140 miles away, the "can do" attitude and flexible approach displayed in agreeing to accommodate Mum and her dog with levels of care/oversight, tailored and adapted to mere ever-changing circumstances, was invaluable in providing peace of mind in extremely traumatic circumstances. Mum is a private person but in the latter part of her stay, she had started to socialise/get involved in activities and in the end, was sorry to leave, a testament to the heroic efforts of the staff. Highly recommended!
Thank you for your amazing review, it was a pleasure to look after your mum and we will be here to support in the future if ever needed.
Kind regards,
Team Shoemaker.
She has been in Shoemaker Place for 12 months, and the care she is receiving is very good. The staff can't do enough for her, and for me when I visit, they are always willing to make me welcome with a nice smile and the offer of a cup of tea. Nothing is too much trouble. Keep the quality care up - always a pleasure to visit her. 10/10.
Kind Regards,
Shoemaker Place.
My mother has been a resident at Shoemaker Place for two months. The staff are excellent and cannot do enough for you, whilst remaining professional at all times. The activities ate providing Mum with the stimulation she needs, and she is enjoying the company. The environment is homely and comfortable. She is now safe and happy, having settled in well (most of the time). Thank you to everyone involved with her care.

I can not begin to say enough thank you to every single person that works at Shoemakers Place, such kindness and care has been given to my lovely mum from the day she started for her little holiday and now a full-time resident. The manager and all her team are always there to help and support with anything that's needed for my mum, along with all the lovely carers. All have played a wonderful part in bringing my mum back to socialising and interacting with others around her, eating the most amazing food, joining in activities and causing lots of naughty laughter! Can’t thank you all enough.
Kind Regards,
Shoemaker Place
The building was immaculate, clean and fresh. The staff, on every level, were polite and friendly and went out of their way to make my aunt, who was there for respite care, feel as much at home as possible. The staff were very kind, caring and professional, and the cooking was amazing too. Would definitely recommend it!
Yours Sincerely
Team Shoemaker Place
Well what can I say, Shoemaker Place is a truly warm, friendly, welcoming, organised and above all professional, responsive, compassionate and high-quality care provision. The home from home and nostalgic environment makes both residents and their families feel this is the best place for themselves and their loved ones. Each staff member is happy, so a happy team makes happy residents. The home is spotlessly clean, aesthetically pleasing, cosy and light. The choice of healthy home-cooked menu is varied, tasty and attractive. There is a real bespoke service to residents to ensure their individual needs are met. I feel so reassured not only for my in-laws themselves but also to my spouse who just does not worry or has to mitigate additional needs as the leadership team are so responsive. I just love the variety of creative activities and professionalism: always working in partnership with residents' family members. A huge thanks to you all at Shoemakers!
Thanks for your lovely review, we are thrilled that you feel your loved ones are well looked after and given person-centred care. Kind regards from all of the team!
Thank you to all staff. I am so happy and relieved I found you to take care of my adorable folks!

First time using any care home for respite care. From the initial contact through to the end of the respite period, I found all members of the Shoemaker team to be extremely friendly, helpful and professional. The care provided was excellent, and I would definitely use this care home again.
Kind regards.
