Both my Parents moved into Alston House in July 2025, unfortunately within 6 weeks my Mother had a fall which led to a brain bleed and she sadly passed away, my Father continued to live at Alston House and needed 24 hour care as he was bed bound. He sadly gave up on life and stopped eating and drinking and passed away last week. He was 90 years old.
When we made the difficult decision to move Mum& Dad into care, we were naturally anxious.
But the warmth, compassion, and professionalism we experienced there quickly put us at ease .
they were both treated with surrogate love, which brought our family immense comfort .
Thank you to the Nurses, the Homemakers, the Kitchen team, and everyone who took the time to stop and chat, make them smile, and ensure their final years were comfortable and dignified.
A special thank you to Edyta who made sure that in my mothers final days she was returned from hospital to be with Dad.

This care home is so well run it seems like a Hotel !

Brenda has been at Alston House for 6 weeks having come from another Care Home and spending a short time in hospital. The staff have aided her recovery and being able to compare the care to another home, I have to say that Alston House provides exemplary care and support for its residents. Every member of staff goes around their duties with a smile and nothing is too much. I know Brenda feels cared for and is happy in her surroundings. If I could call out every member of the team's names I would, but to name a few I will thank Emma, Debbie, Bosco, Dan, Lisa, Colleen and, Kieran who I will shoutout! Food is fantastic and any issues are quickly resolved without any fuss. A big thank you from me, Joanne and especially from Brenda. Thanks to everybody at Alston House.

My Mum became a resident 2 months ago. She is extremely happy and is well cared for. The meals are superb and are all home cooked so they are very nutritious. The homemakers and nursing care are excellent. The home is well run and any queries or concerns are swiftly dealt with. I would recommend this home to anybody looking for an excellent residential/ nursing home.

John was already very poorly when he came to Alston House. As a family we knew what we were to face. The welcome we all received was so comforting straight away. As a visitor each day and visit of his loving family, including very young children, was just wonderful from day one. On entering the home, we walked into a sanctuary of kindness, welcome and loving understanding. Every member of staff was of comfort and reassurance. John's care was just wonderful in every way. He was given love, dignity and empathetic care.

I would like to thank all the staff at the Care Home for their kindness and empathy for my mother after what has been quite a distressing time, after a fall, and three weeks in hospital .

It was very reassuring for us, as her family, to know that she will be well cared for and that they will endeavour to make sure all her needs are met.

This review comes with our heartfelt gratitude for the excellent care and pandering to my Dad's every whim from the day he arrived on 24/12/2024 to the day he departed this world on 04/02/2026.
Being bed-ridden for nearly all of Dads stay could not have been easy for him or the caregivers, however, there were no complaints, in fact I think he enjoyed the attention.
The kindness he received whilst in Alston House Care Home will never be forgotten, the amazing professional and friendly attitude of the staff that cared for Dad is greatly appreciated, especially Ionut (Jon) who stayed with him when he passed.
A special 'shout out' to the 'girls' that organising the wonderful Video for my Dads 102nd Birthday which also included a cake. Something for us to remember for ever.

A very big thank you to all at Alston House Care Home, you are all special people.

Our mother received a warm welcome from everyone when moving into Alston House on the eve of her 90th birthday. All members of the Hamberley team have been friendly, supportive and caring. The resident rooms, common areas and facilities are very well presented. The 24/7 nursing care is very good. The home provides a variety of activities each week and residents are gently encouraged to participate if able which also facilitates socializing and exercising. The lovely meals are varied and enjoyable whatever the appetite. Family and friends are also made most welcome. Our mother of course misses her own house but is very happy with her new surroundings and the excellent care provided.

My father has been a resident at Alston house since August, following a fall needing medical intervention.
Every time i visit i feel welcomed and that carers and admin team know my father, his needs, and genuinely care about how he is.
Because of the above, combined with natures healing process, my father has settled in well. He enjoys the food and is now building the confidence to go on outings and attend activities.
The team have put in place preventative care which alerts them to any movement which may develop into a risk of falling and this gives me a lot of comfort. There always seems to be help close at hand from members of the team and they find the sweet spot of giving privacy and respect yet managing the risk.

Alston House was recommended to me and i would not hesitate in recommending it to others.

My lovely dad Malcolm was a resident at Alston house just short of 2 years. He was cared for with dignity and respect at all times, the staff were welcoming and respectful and they were always there to support us as a family.
My dad was living with dementia and at times this came with some challenges, but I never felt that he was excluded despite some of his increased challenging behaviours as time progressed.
I chose for my dad to receive end of life care at Alston house, at the time I questioned myself if I had made the right choice, should he have gone to hospital or not. One of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make. I'm so so grateful he stayed at Alston house, I know 100% I made the right decision .The nurses were absolutely amazing always ensuring that my dad received the best care possible, especially nurse Debbie who went beyond and more.

I would recommend Alston house in a heartbeat, I looked at many before I settled as I wanted the best for my dad, and we got it.

I have made my first visit to Alston House. A fortnights stay following knee replacement at the hospital.
I had an earlier visit to look round and quickly decided this welcoming abode would be right for me.
The staff very welcoming and have made my stay enjoyable as possible. Giving me space but always at hard to help as needed. Whether night or day. A very happy atmosphere helping with my recovery

I will certainly recommend to others.

All the staff were friendly, efficient, and approachable. The home was beautiful, and my Mother-in-Law's room was superb, on the ground floor with a door and the garden. The meal menus were wide-ranging and very appetising. It really was the ideal place for my Mother-In-Law's respite care, and I would have no qualms in recommending it. Really lovely place.

Dad has been living in Alston House for just over a year. He settled in from week one. He enjoys the food and wine!

On a few occasions we have had the need to speak to the House manager. Magda is always available and is proactive in updating care plans when there is a need.

The activities are great, Kelly Marie organises a varied programme in the house and off site. Dad particularly enjoyed the trip to the museum, canal boat ride and visit to the garden centre. The talks gave him lots to talk about and the themed days are a great hit!

All the staff are very friendly and kind. Dad says he's never heard so many people say 'You're Welcome!

I would just like to thank everyone at Alston House for the care and respect they showed my uncle. While he was at Alston House he was so well looked after and was very happy. Everyone was always so welcoming and friendly when I visited and were always happy to have a chat about any concerns I had with him. I was able to go away on holiday and relax as I knew he couldn't have been in better hands. The whole team are amazing and I can never praise them enough for how they care. It is a beautiful home with amazing people working there. Thank you for everything from us all.

Alston House is excellent. The facilities are very very good and the staff superb - kind, caring and efficient. I feel safe and secure and so well looked after. My Mother only spent a few months at Alston House as she was terminal. From the moment I contacted this home we were both treated with dignity and they made the process so much easier. They cared for Mum and me during Mum's last days so well, attentive to all our needs with a positive 'can do' approach. I am so relieved I chose well for Mum a home that was always bright, welcoming and a real tonic in what was a difficult time for us. Well done to all the wonderful staff at Alston House.

Following three successful and positive short respite stays at Alston House, mum made the decision to move from her own home and become a permanent resident six months ago.
Mum was reluctant at first to join in with any activities, but with gentle encouragement from the staff she now chooses to dine with her new friends and is beginning to enjoy outings out, including trips to the theatre and a day at Highclere Castle.
The staff quickly picked up on things that mean the most to mum. She frequently comments on how good the food is and she is eating far better now than when she lived alone.
The staff never fail to make us feel welcome and have been so supportive with any issues that have arisen while mum continues to get used to her new home.

As a family, we are never in any doubt as to the level of care that mum is receiving. I would highly recommend Alston House. From the moment we first looked around, we were made to feel welcome and part of the family.

Very impressed with the standard of care which my mother received in January/February 2025. It was the perfect place for her to regain her strength following a hospital stay. The staff were friendly. The food tasty and the whole environment enabled he to regain her confidence. Another pus - her clothes were not ruined in the laundry as I have seen happen in other home.
