The improvement in our friend since he went to Mill House has been amazing. His state of mind, general wellbeing and mobility have improved.
The home generally is a lovely place. Staff are brilliant and the entertainment programme is brilliant.

My mother returned to The Mill House in early October after a couple of weeks in hospital. On discharge we were advised she was probably approaching the end of her life. Since her return to The Mill House she has received a high level of care and as each day has passed she has become stronger and her
health has improved. Her amazing improvement can only be put down to the gentle, supportive care and knowledge of the staff team who have looked after her with compassion and dignity.

Care and attention given to at the home have been five stars. The staff went above and beyond looking after her. As we live a distance away, it has been very reassuring that she has been in safe hands. The rooms and surroundings are excellent. Would recommend it without a doubt.

Since my mum came into Mill House, she has received outstanding care and support from all the staff at all times.
She absolutely loves being there amongst very friendly residents and made friends very quickly with both staff and guests.
The entertainment provided in the home is wonderful and Mum especially
loved the boat trip on the canal. The Mill House deserves a five star review. We couldn't have chosen a better place for Mum to enjoy her latter years. Thank you to everyone.

From the moment I walked into The Mill House (on behalf of my parents) I was struck with the utter professionalism of every member of staff. My parents have been residents for three months, and this initial impression has not faltered. Every member of our family feels at home - ever our naughty cockapoo!

My parents have been residents of The Mill House since August/September 2023. They have settled well into their environment, albeit on separate floors. They are well cared for and looked after. They have their nominated key workers who we can contact if we need to. However I do not understand why outdoor
furniture is not provided for residents whose rooms overlook the garden, this is provided for those in the apartments or rooms looking onto the canal. I have been informed that this is due to budgets. Surely a superior care home which has such great attention to detail in all aspects, should want the outside furniture to look the same!

We like to make sure our residents are as comfortable and happy as possible. Which is why we allow our residents to make their own decisions regarding their spaces, like what furniture stays and goes, and if they wish to buy or bring their own furniture in, so they can make their own spaces to relax in. Although we do provide all the essential furniture and linen needed, we also provide outside seating in our communal areas. With residents wanting different things for their outside spaces, we allow residents to make their own touches within these spaces. I live in a beautiful comfortable home with easy access to the town. Very satisfied with the care given by the permanent staff however agency staff leave a lot to be desired and should have instructions on all aspects of carrying out care. The food varies depending on the chef-though the dishes are
too repetitive and not cooked to be appetising. Activities are limited when there are insufficient staff on duty. The outings are good.

Excellent residential care home. Mum settled in immediately after a lengthy stay in hospital and staff are very caring, cheerful and understanding. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Facilities are like a 5-star hotel!

Kind, caring staff who go out of their way to assist my mum in all her activities of daily living. Team leaders and managers always available and respond swiftly to any concerns or queries. Home is always immaculately cleaned and reception staff friendly and welcoming. Local GP seems very attentive
and staff inform me immediately with any concerns re my mum or changes to care. Very well-managed care home.

My mum has been under the care of the current manager for approximately 18 months. On arrival my mum had just been discharged from the hospital and was in poor condition, she had deteriorated physically and mentally during the hospital admission. As soon as she arrived I knew she was in safe and extremely
caring hands. My mum was nurtured and treated with dignity. Nothing was too much trouble. We began to gradually see our mum returning to her happy mischievous self. Her love of dance and music came back. She appears settled, and content and has a lovely relationship with the staff.

My sisters and I feel very fortunate to have found such a lovely home for our parents. They moved in during the Summer of 2023 and have both settled very happily into this beautifully furnished, well laid out, extremely clean, comfortable and welcoming building. They enjoy a varied menu of good food,
there are a range of activities on offer throughout the week, and a beautiful garden to relax in or take a stroll around. However, what makes this home truly special is the manager's wonderful team of caring, friendly, approachable people who take the time to really get to know the residents as individuals and encourage them to be as independent as they are able to be. Mum and Dad are extremely well looked after, not just by the care staff but also by the cooks, housekeeping, admin and maintenance staff. Any queries or minor concerns have been dealt with promptly and sensitively.

I could write so much about how wonderful it was to find the team who run The Mill House. My sister-in-law moved with them from the old premises and has been happy and content from the day she took up residency, as have we. The care and attention she receives is second to none. The management is excellent
and filters down to a dedicated team. It truly is a beautiful experience just to visit and exceptional in every way. In all the homes I visited in my research, the management and team at The Mill House stood out leaps and bounds above the rest. All round, excellent.

Short of one-to-one care for the residents, it’s hard to see how the overall care could be improved. Staff seem well motivated and patient, even in the most challenging situations. The individual rooms are very well-appointed (apart from a lack of drawers) and the common areas are comfortable and well-used.
There always seem to be activities going on when we visit with a lively atmosphere.

Sharleen Polley

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2015

Hello, I am Sharleen Polley, general manager of The Mill House care home and The Mill Lodge care suites. I have worked for Anchor for 9 years and previously I was the manager at Anchor’s Thornton Hill care home which we decanted and moved into The Mill House in July 2023.


As a home manager, I am very passionate about leading and equipping my team with the knowledge and resources to enable them to deliver the highest standards of care and services to those who choose to live with us. I take great pride in ensuring the residents are at the heart of all the decisions I make. Please know my door is always open.


Away from work, I love going long walks with my dog and going on holidays.

My name is Jacqueline Ashley and I’m the Home Administrator at The Mill House and The Mill Lodge. I will support you and your loved ones with your resident contract, account management and other administrative duties. I moved to The Mill House after working at Anchor’s Thornton Hill Home for 11 years. Thornton Hill was a charming old Manor House, a stark contrast from The Mill House, which is a very luxurious brand new build.


The residents are still and always will be, the centre of our priority no matter where we are, but how lovely to care for them in such lovely surroundings.


When I am not at work I enjoy walking, wild swimming and being out in nature.
