My sisters and I feel very fortunate to have found such a lovely home for our parents. They moved in during the Summer of 2023 and have both settled very happily into this beautifully furnished, well laid out, extremely clean, comfortable and welcoming building. They enjoy a varied menu of good food,
there are a range of activities on offer throughout the week, and a beautiful garden to relax in or take a stroll around. However, what makes this home truly special is the manager's wonderful team of caring, friendly, approachable people who take the time to really get to know the residents as individuals and encourage them to be as independent as they are able to be. Mum and Dad are extremely well looked after, not just by the care staff but also by the cooks, housekeeping, admin and maintenance staff. Any queries or minor concerns have been dealt with promptly and sensitively.

The care and attention Mum receives is excellent. She is very happy living at The Mill House. The facility is brilliant. As we live away, it is very important for us to know that Mum is safe, secure and well looked after, with this we have no problems. Thank you to all staff for your continued support.
Much appreciated.

Short of one-to-one care for the residents, it’s hard to see how the overall care could be improved. Staff seem well motivated and patient, even in the most challenging situations. The individual rooms are very well-appointed (apart from a lack of drawers) and the common areas are comfortable and well-used.
There always seem to be activities going on when we visit with a lively atmosphere.

Mum has been at The Mill House since September and it is a beautiful place - it looks more like a luxury hotel than a care home and it is kept absolutely spotless. However, what really makes this place special is the staff. They are so warm, friendly and helpful and they treat Mum (and all the residents)
with respect and dignity, even in the toughest of situations. They do genuinely seem to care. It is such a relief to have found The Mill House and to know that Mum is happy, safe and well looked after.

My mother has been at The Mill House since July 2023.
During that time, her confidence has gradually risen.
Mum has made friends and is enjoying the company of others.
There are many activities Mum can join in with and always feels part of everything.
The team of care workers work so hard to ensure
everyone, including relatives and friends, is made to feel welcome too.

My sister and I both live overseas, which can be challenging when it comes to contact with mum. We both feel that we have received excellent communication with all the team leaders! Especially the Deputy Manager who spends time with us once a week to help mum with a Teams Meeting to enable us to see
her! He is incredibly helpful and reassuring, he updates us on mum and we can see he is very caring towards her. It’s a pleasure to also talk to as he is approachable and friendly.

I would also like to point out the same for her carer who has been wonderful at informing us regularly during mum's recent illness, she is also caring and reassuring. We actually feel that for all the carers we speak to, it’s assuring to know mum is very much loved in our absence.

Thank you, it’s greatly appreciated

Absolutely stunning building and facilities. The team is new and not very consistent on the basics like bathing and medicines. The room design is not great for more frail people. Safe on floor, difficult key and lock. A big concern is no grab rails, not sure how they are allowed to open without.
Reply from Sharleen Polley, Manager at The Mill HouseThank you for taking the time to leave us a review, and for rating many aspects 5 stars. We have an established team from our previous site. Any new team members undertake a comprehensive induction programme which includes shadowing our existing team to allow them to become familiar with our residents and their needs.

We are aware of our pharmacy provider experiencing stock issues, we continue to work closely with them to help resolve them as quickly as possible.

We can fit grab rails as and when people need or desire them. I apologise for the delay with your request and will follow up appropriately.

The lockable cupboards are usually used for creams that only our team accesses. If secure storage in the room is required, we can arrange this ensuring this is accessible for your mum. As you know my door is always open and we have had the opportunity to iron out some of these concerns, however, I continue to welcome any feedback to enhance your mum’s experience at The Mill House.

My mother has had a 3-week respite stay in the Mill House. The facilities are amazing. More importantly, the staff are professional and caring. There are entertainment and activities sessions every day and the staff made sure that my mother could join in. The staff quickly became like an extended family
for us. It really is a home-from-home.

I am very pleased and impressed with the care that mum is receiving at The Mill House. The staff are always approachable and caring. Mum's room is kept spotless and with her photo's, ornaments etc displayed it appears very homely. The communal spaces, dining room and courtyard garden are all very pleasant
areas for the residents and visitors to enjoy (as is the coffee bar). I am happy to say that mum appears to be very happy with her surroundings at Mill House.

My elderly aunt moved into The Mill House in July. She requires full care and the staff provide this with empathy and professionalism. The room and facilities are of a very high standard and all the staff are friendly and helpful. Whenever my aunt has any medical issues I am always informed immediately.

The stress of facing not being able to care for your parent yourself is immense. Knowing she’s safe, happy, clean, respected and stimulated means the world. Mill House has beautiful surroundings yes. It puts five-star hotels to shame! But it’s the staff that make this place special. Every single staff
member you meet, be it cleaners, cooks, office staff or caregivers, all are professional and for me most importantly kind.

My mum is a resident of The Mill House, and I am very pleased with the care she is provided with. The staff are all approachable, kind and caring. Activities are provided. Her room is spotless, and my mum is kept clean. The rooms are an excellent size, and the communal areas are bright and welcoming.
I particularly like that we can spend time with Mum out of her room.

The Mill House is brilliant - like a five-star hotel! The first time that I walked around it I was blown away. There is no problem parking up when visiting. Lots of outdoor seating space. They have been looked after my father for 3 years and I have never had a problem whatsoever.

Visited my friend in The Mill House today. I was delighted to find her very happy and settled in her new home. The purpose-built care home is lovely, stylish and comfortable. The bedrooms are comfortable and practical to spend time in. The large single beds look really comfortable, just what you need
for a good sleep.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.860)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.860) out of 10 for The Mill House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 41 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 40 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.860 for The Mill House is calculated as follows: ( (443 Excellents x 5) + (37 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 492 Ratings = 4.86
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Mill House is based on 40 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 102 registered maximum number of service users is 20.4, which has been reached with 40 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Hello, I am Sharleen Polley, general manager of The Mill House care home and The Mill Lodge care suites. I have worked for Anchor for 9 years and previously I was the manager at Anchor’s Thornton Hill care home which we decanted and moved into The Mill House in July 2023.

As a home manager, I am very passionate about leading and equipping my team with the knowledge and resources to enable them to deliver the highest standards of care and services to those who choose to live with us. I take great pride in ensuring the residents are at the heart of all the decisions I make. Please know my door is always open.

Job Title: Home Administrator Joined: 2012

My name is Jacqueline Ashley and I’m the Home Administrator at The Mill House and The Mill Lodge. I will support you and your loved ones with your resident contract, account management and other administrative duties. I moved to The Mill House after working at Anchor’s Thornton Hill Home for 11 years. Thornton Hill was a charming old Manor House, a stark contrast from The Mill House, which is a very luxurious brand new build.

The residents are still and always will be, the centre of our priority no matter where we are, but how lovely to care for them in such lovely surroundings.

When I am not at work I enjoy walking, wild swimming and being out in nature.
