My dad spent a week at Fairfax Manor for respite following being unwell. We were all a little nervous but need not have worried. From initial enquiry to saying goodbye we felt welcome and in safe hands. All staff were professional cheerful and caring. A very happy environment, excellent facilities,
lots of social opportunities and visitors made welcome. A definite choice for any future "holidays"
Reply from Lucy Gradwell, General Manager at Fairfax Manor Care HomeThank you very much for your kind words on your Dad's stay with us, I look forward to sharing your feedback with the team. Should you be looking for another respite stay or residential in the future, we'd love to have your Dad back! Thank you and take care.

I was very impressed by my recent respite stay in Fairfax Manor, particularly by the kindness of the staff and the excellent amenities. However, I would have appreciated a telephone in my room. Nevertheless I would be happy to return if the occasion arises.

My father had a very pleasant stay at Fairfax Manor. He was well looked after and the staff were all helpful and polite. They were all very friendly and enjoyed the banter. The facilities are really good and his room was very clean. He was very happy there. He was in the home for respite and would definitely
consider staying there again.

We were so very lucky to have got our friend into Fairfax Manor Care Home. Everything was second to none but the main assets are the staff and management. Without them, no care home would be the same. They work tirelessly to ensure that all resident's needs are met with dignity and grace. What makes
the home stand out from the rest are the management and the staff. Yes, the furnishings are wonderful, food delicious etc etc. The staff are extraordinary and I trust will be treated by upper management in the same way as they treat and care for the residents. Their care and attention to detail under sometimes quite difficult circumstances did not go unnoticed. Our friend loved being in Fairfax Manor and we cannot thank them all enough.
Reply from Gillian Allatt, General Manager at Fairfax Manor Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to review Fairfax Manor Care Home. Your feedback on our home and, most importantly, our dedicated team is wonderful to hear. We will be sure to pass your observations and kind words on to our team members and support office.

My sister and I visited many face facilities before choosing Fairfax Manor for our mum. From the minute we walked through the door we were quickly made to feel welcome. They made the whole process of getting mum to stay there very easy and we really felt we were all in good hands. Mum settled in very
well even with dementia. She is treated with lots of reassurance and empathy. We really can't fault the facilities, cleanliness, rooms and the food quality. It feels like a hotel, not a care home. So much so that mum thinks she is on holiday every day!

Dad came in for a week's respite. We had a look at various care homes, but we settled on Fairfax as the environment looked really good for him and it was close to where he lives. We definitely made the right decision and Dad was really happy. We didn't think he'd come back. From the moment he arrived,
we could see the effort, kindness and care that everyone showed him. We were shown around, given a coffee and introduced to the staff who would be looking after him. It was clear that all the staff couldn't do enough during his time there. Since he left, he hasn't stopped talking about his positive experience including the other residents he met, the facilities and all the nurses. He especially liked the live music act that played. Thank you!

Mum seems very happy and content in Fairfax Manor Care Home. I thought we were losing her but she has survived. The atmosphere is very positive, the staff clearly understand her needs and have adapted her care accordingly. I don't know about activities as I am not there and in terms of value for money,
I have nothing to compare with. Thank you to the staff for giving Mum a new lease of life and something to live for.

What a beautiful place it is everything has been thought of for the comfort of the residents. My husband was in the care home for a week's respite. I know how testing he would be for the staff as he has alzheimers. He was well cared for. I enjoyed my rest and hope to return him again in the near future.

Fairfax Manor is a gold-standard care home. It looks like a five-star hotel but has the warmth of a family home. I cannot speak highly enough of all the staff that work there, they all show such compassion and caring towards all the residents and create such a happy environment. My mum has lived there
for six weeks now and is just so happy when I ask her if she likes living there she always says “I love it”! Both me and my brother are so pleased that she is being so well looked after. I cannot speak highly enough of the lovely place but most of all the truly dedicated, caring staff. Exceptional!

Very clean and well-designed. The staff couldn’t be more accommodating and friendly. The home is always buzzing and all service users are made to feel a part of it as much or as little as they like. Just a warming bright atmosphere. It’s a pleasure to visit.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.867)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.867) out of 10 for Fairfax Manor Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 34 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 34 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.867 for Fairfax Manor Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (360 Excellents x 5) + (36 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 405 Ratings = 4.867
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Fairfax Manor Care Home is based on 34 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 90 registered maximum number of service users is 18, which has been reached with 34 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I am delighted to be at Fairfax Manor as Home Manager. With a background in both the NHS and Social Care sectors since 2009, I bring extensive experience in leading and developing high-quality care services.

Before joining Fairfax Manor, I managed a 100-bed care home in the local area, where I was proud to support the team in achieving a CQC Outstanding rating in the domains of well-led, caring, and responsive.

I hold a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management in Social Care and have been honoured with both regional and national recognition, including awards for Front Line Leader and Regional Registered Manager.

I am passionate about creating a safe, compassionate, and responsive environment where residents feel valued and supported. I believe that well-trained, happy staff are at the heart of excellent care, and I am committed to ensuring both residents and colleagues flourish here at Fairfax Manor.

Outside of work, I live in Harrogate with my husband of over 30 years, Paul, along with our two grown-up sons and a lively mix of pets. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends and feel very fortunate to love the work I do every day.
