As a resident I feel happy of Avery House, I'm content and I would not want to be in another home, I like the staff.

Avery House has restored my faith in residential care. My mother who suffers from Alzheimers was initially admitted for emergency respite care when my father was hospitalised but is now permanent. I have been impressed with the very good care shown as well as the approachability and friendliness of
staff who listen and try to accommodate clients' needs. Medical care has been good and appropriate. My father is now also in residential care at Avery House, initially for respite following his hospitalisation, but has now requested to stay and he really likes it there.
It was a welcome surprise to be invited for a care review for both parents to discuss any concerns or issues I might have had. I was also grateful of the offer of an escort for a hospital appointment.
For me the only improvement is that there seems to be a loss of personal clothing through the laundry process.
I have been a carer from afar and wish I could find somewhere equivalent on the South Coast closer to my home.

My mother and aunt moved to Avery House approximately 6 months after it opened during the time they were there they were treated with dignity and respect, my wife and I felt it so good my father-in-law has had several respites in Avery House and after my mother-in-laws death last March both father and
my wife and I had no hesitation to make it his permanent residence.

I am very pleased with the overall care in Avery House. Nice clean environment, a happy place. All staff very kind to residents and families, occasionally they seem understaffed but try hard to care for everyone. They do need more activities as in the last few months I haven't seen or heard as much
singing going on and other activities.

The staff were very welcoming and kind. They assessed my father quickly and efficiently to get him the aids he needed to help him. The staff listened carefully to him and us to make sure he was happy. The food was excellent and family were invited to join mealtimes. When he went into hospital a member
of staff stayed with him until we arrived and the manager and her assistant visited him. They were very caring and he liked them.

Avery House has been a lifesaver for my father and me. Following a stroke, he was withdrawn, not getting out of bed or washing (even with carers) while living in his own home. Once in Avery, he was helped out of bed in the mornings. He is clean and happy. He is well fed and can mix with others though
chooses often to eat in his room. He is helped with all daily activities. The staff are very caring and compassionate, despite my father having some inappropriate behaviour. The home is well run. Every one smiles and chats when I visit (daily). My only negative points are it is quite expensive compared to some other homes. But are they as good as Avery?

My mum has been in Avery House for several years. We are both very happy with the level of care she receives. The staff are very friendly and show interest in mum's wider family. Communication is generally very good. I would certainly recommend Avery House to anyone looking for care for an elderly relative.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.716)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.716) out of 10 for Barchester Hampton Grove Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.716 for Barchester Hampton Grove Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (205 Excellents x 5) + (62 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 275 Ratings = 4.716
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Hampton Grove Care Home is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 87 registered maximum number of service users is 17.4, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
