Anchor's Oakwood Grange is located at the centre of the Royston community in Barnsley. The home provides friendly and comfortable residential and dementia care for up to 60 residents in single rooms which offer en-suite facilities.

Oakwood Grange is accepting new residents for quality residential and residential dementia care.

The dedicated care team takes the time to get to know the individual and work with them and their loved ones to create detailed care plans to ensure their care needs are continually met.

Anchor provides ongoing training in dementia care for its staff to ensure their approach reflects best practice for residents. The care team provides individual and compassionate care by getting to know their customers and their families.

Oakwood Grange has some very good points, but my disappointment is the lack of continuity. Although requests and procedures are supposed to be recorded for all staff to be aware of, it is obvious that some members of staff are unaware or don't feel it is their responsibility to follow these instructions.
Some teams are exceptional, on the ball, very caring and you feel you can trust them. While other teams leave you feeling a little concerned. The deputy manager is very good and makes me feel confident most of the time. However, even then I feel the left-hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing some of the time.
In general, I am pleased with Mum's care but I feel some of the staff could be more efficient by being more knowledgeable about the residents they are caring for. For example, Mum was incontinent, when I asked if she had a pad on the team leader said they hadn't got any packs but she had put an emergency order in (to come in January). Now, this had all been sorted out several weeks before and I had brought in packs for her. So through lack of communication:-
1. Mum had the indignity of wetting her clothes.
2. A carer had to change and wash her.
3. The laundry had to wash extra clothes.
The carer who looked after her was wonderful but it seemed to me all extra work. All the carers need to know is that Mum always needs to wear a pad when she's dressed and where the pads are kept. There are other examples and most of them have similar solutions.

We know we would be requiring respite care for my dad at some point and Oakwood Grange was the first one we looked at. We also looked at several others but hoped Oakwood Grange would be our first choice.
When the emergency arose and we required access to the services I was so relieved when Oakwood
Grange had the capacity to take dad. It was a heartbreaking decision I had to make but I felt comforted and satisfied by the transition of dad from his home to Oakwood Grange. The care afforded to dad was second to none and the staff treated dad as a member of their family. All his needs were met.

Our mum had been in for one night only. When we went in the morning after 11 am mum was still asleep, her door was closed and her clothes were just thrown. Asked to speak to a carer and asked carer if mum had anything to eat or drink. Her response was, I don’t know then asked if mum had her medication,
her response was I don’t know with an attitude. Then I asked where on earth was the care plan? Then when waking mum up to her being so groggy, we don’t know why or how long she had been laid in a soiled bed, we immediately packed up her belongings and left. Disgraceful.

The care at Oakwood Grange is extremely good. Residents are shown compassion and dignity at all times. The home is very clean and the bedrooms are spacious with ensuite facilities. My friend is very happy living here. The staff are very caring and a lovely friendly receptionist to greet you as you enter.

We have been visiting a resident for 2-3 years now - always found the rooms very clean and tidy. The carers always pleasant. We visit ones in various homes in the area. This is by far the best one.

This is a good care home. I'm not sure any resident ever considers a care home their real home, but the staff work extremely hard to make it as near as possible. It is clean, well organised and devoid of the smells I have experienced at other homes. It is the staff that make it and I can't speak any
more highly of them.

Mostly mum is looked after very well. Just on occasions things haven't been satisfactory. One of the carers put the bed cover in a heap on the floor. Mum has always been very particular about the home and thinks the carers should be as careful as she was. She doesn't like food piling up on the plate
and eats very little. As we all live away we are particularly grateful to the staff at Oakwood Grange for looking after mum so well.

On my visit today it was the care homes open day. It was lovely to see residents having a sing a long and generally looking happy. It made me feel good to see my mum getting involved with activities. Interaction is a main ingredient that the residents need.
