Overall Experience
My Relative has been a resident at Preston House Nursing home for two and a half years, year on year I've seen improvement in service and care, recently a reduction in my relatives's medication in collaboration with the GP and subsequent retraining of staff has been welcomed.
All staff are friendly, proactive, and caring and go to great lengths to care for my sister.
The 'Activity' service is exemplary, professional, respectful, giving residents encouragement, stimulation, and enjoyment.
Reception is my 'first point of contact,' in person or on the phone, always a helpful caring experience.
The financial process works effectively and I am kept well informed.

I live 400 miles from Preston House and receive a weekly report on my relative from the Management Team and the introduction of a video call with my relative is comforting.

Gary has been in your care 11 months, it's not been without its bumps and twists along the way. Having never needed adult health and social care support before, I didn't know what to expect. On the whole it has been a very positive experience, and the worries or concerns we've had have been dealt with quickly and supportively. My only concerns if I still had to think of any would be things missing belonging to Gary or finding things that aren't his - not a big problem in the grand scale of things. Staffing - not always able to find someone, which concerns me that he and peers are left vulnerable for short periods of time.

Reply from Clare Cogan Turner, Communications at Preston House

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of Gary's first 11 months at Preston House. Staff are fantastic on dads floor (2) he has his favourites which is nice to see. There are plenty of activities for him to do if he wishes to do so, however he was a very quiet soul and didn't do these things before so we don't expect him to do it now if he doesn't want to but it's lovely to see photos when he does.
I would like to see him clean shaven daily as he always was at home. He was a very smart tidy man with very high hygiene standards. I like to remember him this way. On this note I would like to see his clothing replaced when he spills food down him. Again I understand if we come down after lunch staff have not had time but when we arrive after two it's not nice to see him wandering around in clothing covered in lunch . We did leave money for dad in the office when he moved in so that he could have hair trims every 6-8 weeks where possible.

Staff are on the ball with dad's health and I trust them 100% that they have his best interests at heart. Thanks to everyone

The staff are always approachable, friendly and helpful. I see that they are hardworking, show a caring and compassionate attitude for my mother.
The staff deserve an increase in their salary for the endless help they give my mother and for the other residents and their families.
When my mother was able, she always looked forward to our resident entertainer who comes on a regular basis. She liked to sing with the microphone.

A very good experience of a care home which shows love for others.

My mother has been residing in Preston House for a year now. Her health, and mobility has improved so much during this time, and is flourishing due to the dedication and care she receives. My Father was diagnosed with end stage kidney disease, , and wanted to be with his wife in his final weeks. Preston made this happen. Again the dedication from the staff and Manager was second to none, and made his final weeks and days as comfortable as they could be. He was a complex man, with complex care needs, which the Care Home took in its stride. I cannot thank Preston House enough to allow them to be together til he passed. The Manager, and her team definitely care from the heart.

My mum continues to have the best care, in my opinion, and I never feel worried about the care provided to her. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!

My Mum was a resident at Preston House for 5 years before she passed earlier in 2025. I live 500 miles away and my brother is in Australia. The level of respect, care and love received by my Mum meant gave us confidence that she was very well looked after. The Manager is tireless in ensuring the best care for residents and her team are excellent. I felt so well supported, which was so important as I live so far away. I can't thank the team enough for everything they did for my Mum.

Preston House is kept to the highest standard of cleanliness. The staff are very people-centred in dealing with residents and visitors. I take pleasure in knowing that the staff know at all times where my mother-in-law is, she is very mobile and likes to walk along the corridor to the communal area and her room. The activity coordinators give the resident all their individual need.

Preston House is a truly superb care home. My mum had been a resident there for the past few years after coming from another care home which was terrible until she passed away at the start of April. She had a severe stroke in 2018 and was paralysed down one side so needed full time care of two people. Her room was lovely and clean and the manager well what can I say.
She leads by example and is amazing at her job and all her staff were fantastic at looking after my mum.
I can see why they get good reports from the care Commision as they go above and beyond.
As my mum was entering her last few days the staff would sit with my mum as I couldn't
be there all the time as my husband also has had a stroke so I am his carer at home. I felt really upset that I felt I couldn't be with my mum at the end but the staff made sure she was not in pain and kept her settled and I will be forever grateful for that.

The manager again you and your staff are amazing !!!!

My mum has been in Preston House for almost four years, and she is receiving
excellent care there. The staff are all extremely helpful and the positive attitude

of every single person who works there makes for great cohesion. Every one of them contributed to making my mum's hundredth birthday unforgettable. A big thank you to the entertainment team.

A big thank you to the chef. My mum often comments on the excellent meals, and her birthday cake was amazing.

A big thank you to the gardener who has created such a beautiful environnent for the residents and their visitors to enjoy.

Don't change a single thing. Just continue doing what you do so well.

Our Mum moved into Preston House in August 2021 when, thankfully, the covid restrictions were lifting. I found it very stressful but the staff, especially the manager, settled her in so well. She had a lovely sunny room looking on to the beautiful garden. Her room was always clean and tidy. Sadly she passed away last week but I want to thank every member of staff for the love and respect they gave her even when she was a challenge in the early days. She was quite a character. We will always be grateful that her last years were happy ones.

My mum came into Preston House 2 years in June and has inproved so much, she is happy, well, and very much cared for. All staff are so friendly and caring nothing is a problem to any of them, and the manager keeps everyone in line, she is strict but in a good way, if you have a problem or concern, she is on it straight away, (and that is the way it should be). Its been very hard for me to except mum being in a home, but it was the best thing for mum and thats what matter, so glad she is at Preston and I no she is happy and safe.

My brother became a resident in Preston House in May 2024. The building and individual rooms are attractive, well-maintained and very clean. The grounds are beautiful and offer lovely outside seating areas. Staff are friendly and nothing seems too much bother for them. The nursing staff are knowledgeable and always discuss any changes to the care plan to ensure that relatives are kept well informed. I have seen a remarkable change in aspects of my brother's well-being due to the attention given to meet his specific needs. The manager maintains a very visible profile on the site. She is approachable and has good knowledge of the residents and their families. There is a wide range of activities available for residents. In conclusion, Preston House staff go the extra mile and give me confidence that my brother is being well looked after and his needs are being well met- A big thank you to all who contribute to his care.

I wrote a review for Preston House in April 2023 shortly after my husband moved in, saying how happy I was that I had chosen this Care Home and I feel exactly the same some 16 months later.
The rooms and public areas are kept beautifully clean and tidy. There is also a really pretty garden area where residents and their friends and family can sit out. The food looked very tasty with a selection of dishes for each meal. There was also tea and coffee with biscuits and cakes served regularly. There are a number of activities planned for the residents - crafts, day trips and concerts.
What makes this Home so special however is the manager and all the lovely staff who were so helpful, kind and patient and looked after my husband so well during his time in Preston House, especially so in his final days. Towards the end, someone would sit with him so he was never alone. That was very comforting for me and I can never thank them enough.

I would certainly highly recommend Preston House.
