My mum joined the community at Berrycroft Manor abruptly following a fall. The team were welcoming and very supportive of an older adult who had resisted the move into residential care. While a large care home with numerous residents, Berrycroft Manor is organised into community groups (Mum's was 'Holly')
so that there is increased potential for new arrivals to integrate and form new friendships.
She had been very lonely, and it was lovely to see a smile return as she engaged in the daily activities that were planned for the residents.
The rooms were as advertised - spacious, ensuite and with a view of something from the window - Mum's room overlooked the garden. She was happy there.
Mum had two conditions that meant that end-of-life was in the not-to-distant future, and she was only a resident for 151 days. The care at end-of-life (of both mum and her family) was nothing short of outstanding. The staff were powerful advocates for her to ensure that all her wishes were met.

My aunt lived close to Berrycroft Manor. After a fall that involved surgery for bleeding in the brain, she went from hospital to an assessment centre. Here she decided herself that she would like to go into Berrycroft Manor, as she knew some residents there and had visited them. So my aunt lived there
from August 2015 until her death in June 2023 aged 101. Although aged, my aunt was in fairly good health and mentally strong right up to the day she was taken into hospital. My aunt was taken into hospital and died, peacefully the same day. I am glad that having lived an active and an interesting life, she did not suffer a long final illness. Some health issues were dealt with efficiently at Berrycroft, such as radiotherapy for a minor skin blemish and the Covid pandemic was managed well, at least as far as my aunt was concerned. All things considered my aunt lived a comfortable final few years very well in Berrycroft Manor. Thanks to the staff.

My Mum lived at Berrycroft Manor for over five years after having numerous falls at home and finally falling downstairs and ending up in hospital for four months. We visited many homes, looking for somewhere suitable and Berrycroft just felt right for Mum. All the staff are so caring and know their
residents needs and go the extra mile to help them settle into their new surroundings. I'm not saying it was easy, as it is a massive decision to put your trust into the hands of others. It took Mum a while to settle in as she was confused and would ask when she was going home. I explained that this was her home now and she settled in and once she got to know all the staff, she would joke with them and for me, it was reassuring to see her happy and smiling. Mum recently passed away and the staff were so loving and caring. They supported all the family and nothing was ever too much trouble.

The staff at Berrycroft Manor are amazing. The loving way they have looked after my auntie and she has looked so well on every visit. She settled in and made Berrycroft Manor her home and was really happy there. When I spoke to her on the phone on Christmas Day just gone, despite being in lockdown,
she was buzzing. It must have been a great day for her. Despite Covid restrictions and bad press about care homes at the beginning of the pandemic, and during such a challenging time, the staff at Berrycroft Manor have done a fantastic job of looking after my relative. They go that extra mile every time. They really are lovely. I was present at Berrycroft Manor during the last 2 days of my auntie’s life and the atmosphere and standard of care were brilliant and uplifting. The staff are amazing.

Our 90-Year-old father was transferred to Berrycroft Manor after a long stay in a community hospital due to recurrent infections. The care my father received from the staff at Berrycroft was second to none. Each member of the care team was polite, interested in learning more about our father and showed
real empathy and compassion toward meeting his needs.
It is obvious that the management of this care home is leading by example and standards are high.
Unfortunately, dad had to be admitted to hospital in early April due to his recurrent health issues, resulting in him becoming very ill and receiving end of life care. The hospital asked Berrycroft if they would be able to have him back to spend his final days in familiar surroundings. Berrycroft could not have been more helpful, insisting he came home as soon as an ambulance could be arranged (late that night) special equipment was ordered to enable our father to be as comfortable as possible. Can't thank them enough for their care.

My 93 years old mother has been at Berrycroft for almost two years now. She has no dementia problems, it was just physical, old age problems that were making life very difficult for her. After a hesitant start, ( leaving her own home where she had lived for over 80 years, so quite expected ) she has
settled in better than we expected and dared hope for. Even though the pandemic has severely limited the opportunities for visits from both ourselves and her local friends, she has made friends amongst the other residents, but best of all she has made close friendships with the carers on her wing. We know she'd still rather be at home but realises that she is much better off and very well cared for in Berrycroft compared to if she was still at home. Her only ' gripe ' is that the food could sometimes be better, but she is very happy with the care and attention, and help which she receives from the staff which makes us happy to know that she is being well cared for. Thank You, Staff.

Dad has been a resident at Berrycroft Manor for about 18 months now. He has vascular dementia and Parkinson's Disease and was admitted when Mum was hospitalized following a fall. At first, he was resident on a temporary basis but became a permanent resident when it became clear Mum would no longer be
able to care for him at home. The management team at Berrycroft couldn't have been more helpful and caring when these difficult decisions were being taken and allowed us all the time we needed. Since then, the team have been absolutely superb in every way - the kindness of the staff towards Dad and us his family have been beyond praise. The management team is efficient and helpful in every way. The standards of care and cleanliness, facilities, food and entertainment are first class. The staff have coped brilliantly during the Covid crisis. We have absolute confidence in Berrycroft and couldn't be more grateful for all they have done for Dad. Recommended without hesitation.

My Dad has been in Berrycroft for around 8 months now. He was very confused, to begin with but thanks to the very kind staff he seems to be happy and settled now. Unfortunately due to covid, we haven't seen inside the home yet but I feel assured after talking regularly to my Dad he's being very well
cared for.

My mum came to Berrycroft Manor at the very beginning of the pandemic. We couldn’t tour the facility, or visit mum, which made it so hard. I live in the USA, which made it even more difficult. I can’t praise all the staff enough for making this transition as easy as possible for all of us, and for
Mum. The staff are absolutely wonderful, professional, kind, caring and so patient. Mum has settled, and more important than anything, she is happy. We feel so fortunate to have found Berrycroft and I would (and have) recommended it to so many people.

Mum has been a resident in Berrycroft Manor for almost a year now - all through the Covid outbreak - having been admitted at the beginning of February 2020. Because of the virus, things have been very different from how they would normally be as we have been unable to visit Mum for much of the year.
We are able to phone, she tells us she's well and happy. The staff are approachable and we can talk to them about Mum. Mum can't manage her own phone so with others needing to phone, the shared one is often busy.
Mum's condition has deteriorated over the last 12+ months and she needs a lot of help. The equipment needed for her care has been obtained and she has regular visits from nurses and other medical practitioners. Her care seems appropriate to her needs.
Over the last few months, the staff have tried their hardest to facilitate safe visiting having created a visiting 'pod' for limited visiting when the rules allow. They have been trying to protect everyone. Staff are friendly/caring.

It is an extremely difficult decision to see a loved one go into a care home. When I met the Manager at Berrycroft I was very reassured by her response to all my questions that I was choosing the right home for my relative who has been living there for the past 3-years. The staff are compassionate,
caring and have time for each and every resident and they are more than happy to answer any questions or queries. The Manager and Deputy Managers’ doors are always open if a relative has any concerns. During the pandemic, they have done everything they possibly can to keep all of the residents safe, well and happy with testing on a regular basis. The home is well decorated, clean and tidy and the residents are well looked after. I would not hesitate in recommending them.

I have been delighted to know that my wife has had such good care and attention during Covid-19 lockdowns. All the staff I have encountered have been efficient, friendly, and caring. Having been involved with many organisations in the past, I know that this culture will come from the standards set by
the top management. I think we were extremely fortunate to find Berrycroft Manor when we did. With thanks.

My father has been a resident at Berrycroft Manor for over 7 years now. He settled there fairly quickly - and he’s not a man who likes change at all. The staff are marvellous with him. They understand his needs and they interact with him as much as time and staffing levels allow. He is treated on the
whole as if he were their family and I never feel worried about him or worrying whether he is being cared for. This has been particularly important during the Covid pandemic, which has been so difficult for residents and their families.
I have worked as a Nurse in Stockport and therefore know a lot of the care homes around the area and I can say with confidence that Berrycroft is one of the best.

My nana moved here after a number of falls and prolonged hospital stays, plus the pandemic. My nana has massively improved and the carers are brilliant in dealing with her needs. I haven’t been able to go inside the home yet but from what I have seen the rooms are modern and new carpet has been put
down on my nana's bedroom which she was very proud to have. Whenever I phone everyone is so helpful during this difficult period and I thank them for doing an amazing job.

During these uncertain times due to covid, I have been extremely pleased the way we have been kept informed of any changes that have had to be put in place. Visiting mum (when allowed by government rules) has been put in place to keep residents, carers and family safe and I feel confident that when
the time is right for us to have physical contact with mum again it will be done with the greatest care and in a very safe manner. We are kept updated of mum's every day activities by the Relatives Gateway which we can access daily and anything carers think we need to know about re mum's care they keep us informed. Since covid changed our ability to visit inside Berrycroft the past 10 months I am without doubt that the loving care and kindness of everyone involved in her care are of as high a standard as previously.

My aunt has been a resident for several months in Berrycroft Manor, although at present we do not know whether it is going to be on a temporary basis or permanently, pending a review of her circumstances and finding out her thoughts on this. As yet we have been unable to speak to her about this due
to the present situation, although I do tend to think that she will not be capable, or wish to return to her own home again as she was struggling previously even with carers going in several times a day.
While she has been in there I have visited her on several occasions with the current restrictions in place and have communicated with her mainly on pen and paper as she is extremely deaf. She seems to have settled in very well and seems quite happy there and the staff also seem very good and seem to be looking after her very well.
In view of this, I feel very happy about the care she is receiving and also about her placement in this particular home.

This is a lovely home, one of the best by far. (I visited 22 Care and Nursing Homes, before settling on this one). Berrycroft looked after our dear Mum so well and she was very content there. The staff are very kind and attentive to the residents and their family members. The home itself is well run,
very comfortable and impeccably clean, with a warm and friendly atmosphere. Mum loved the gardens, pub, exercise class and entertainers. She also enjoyed a canal boat trip whilst she was there.
The care Mum received was excellent the entire duration of her 16 months residence at Berrycroft. We are grateful to all the Carers and staff who looked after Mum, but especially three carers, who were with Mum to the end and who were so supportive to the family during such a difficult time.

Current Review Score: 8.5 (8.499)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.5 (8.499) out of 10 for Berrycroft Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.8 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.678 for Berrycroft Manor is calculated as follows: ( (45 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 59 Ratings = 4.678
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.821 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Berrycroft Manor is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 78 registered maximum number of service users is 15.6. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 15.6 = 0.321
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
